Every time I ask my orthotics for an articulated brace they say its too complicated and would have too many parts to deal with?! At this stage I feel maybe they are just blowing me off, because I do my ankle stretching and squatting and feel I have definitely regained more mobility. My physio won't offer an option either. Maybe they don't really use articulated braces here, I really don't know at this stage, but maybe it's a thing that they feel with me a little knowledge us a dangerous thing😢 I did persevere with one thing though I kept going back and back with my AFO and each time they kept adding height to it, until I was lucky enough to meet the senior and he agreed with me I didn't need any more height and took it all off. Huge improvement in my walking. Sometimes I think people feel insulted if you come up with ideas and it shouldn't be like that, it should be collaborative, working together. But so many times one stays unheard and then after a while you just give up😢

Not sure if I shout 'hallelujah', or just 'thank you, everyone'--out of my entire stroke experience? It's the AFO that just---I have no words that aren't cussing. Hemiparesis w tingling & numb leg/arm/hand. Tara's videos have helped so much to keep me from spiraling b/c when in doubt? I do exercises & stay focused on doing Something. I ditto many comments here. My orig orthotist x 5 years was Vietnam era experienced angel--who retired, sold sole ownership biz to a chain, very 'nice' staff replaced--but, entirely inexperienced w both fitting & 'disabilities'. Also? Authorization approval needed at each phase. Orthotist is separate from Rehab/PT separate from MD separate from shoe retail = Mad Hatter. Insurance = 14 PT sessions/year/max if available; 1 AFO/5 years. My Post stroke weight loss, rehab pool, & eventually 30 min adaptive golf, some yoga, TARA'S EXERCISES (right?!) = different size & shape body = good for me, real bad for AFO. AFO's been tweaked. A new cast was done, but not right--and tweaking didn't help. Insurance refused a new, new casting. My best 'answer' is a Tara Tobias Infomercial. I return to Basics and any (eye roll!) core strengthening. Instead of feeling 'slow', I reframe basic walking to 'Walking Meditation'. I use a quad cane in public spaces, not inside apt. It took a year or so for my brain to be ok w music--so now I can 'dance' in chair or near counter. I go outside often. The AFO?? When I was early in Rehab foggy, I thought a sign above Rehab bed read 'UFO'. Now? My AFO might fly--under a passing truck. Oops-y!! I've done a couple retail market, but they aren't ok support for street. A fabric 'foot drop' one I use at night in bed. I N-E-V-E-R walk in dark/night rooms w/o light. And, since Covid, have a phone psychotherapist every 2 weeks--often about AFO frustrations, but always how to keep on with the keeping' on. Finally, a Vet friend w war, then diabetes, prosthetic? His experience is barely better for repairs or fittings. A war vet missing his leg---so, am I complaining?? Nope. I am lucky. My 2016 Stroke: I was in a coma x 2 weeks. Any day I'm Above Ground? Gravy. I keep THAT close to my heart. I'm alive. I get to Annoy Someone Today. Hooray! The rest of it? Don't know. AFOs are the devil's workshop.

A physio I had been working with felt that I didn’t need the wedge. I like another comment was met with inadequate response from the orthotist, feel with my home therapy routine with squats & when I am walking that I am taking long strides instead of taking one step at a time with tripod while engaging my brain/thoughts as I do so & has made such a difference to the quality of my walk.

I found that most afo on Amazon fit smaller. Had to return many until I got one that doesn’t pinch or feel too tight and uncomfortable.

I did not see your recommendation. Did you actually state which ankle brace is best on amazon?

I have foot drop with an inversion that points downward I'm trying to decide on a customized afo soft or a regular hard afo with dorsiflex assist.

If an AFO is fitted with a wedge then surely this would point the foot down. I don’t have dropfoot but high tone in the ankle??

Sounds like it doesn’t fit and should be redone to your correct fitment.

Sorry for my English, In my country there are not many physiotherapists specialized in foot drop, and I don't know what type of AFO to use, I have recovered a little bit of dorsiflexion in my fingers and foot in just over a month, I did not have any accidents but because of my work I kept a lot of pressure on my external popliteal nerve; I can do the movements down and the sides of my foot except the dorsiflexion, my question is what type of AFO would you recommend I use?
