The only store in the US that I saw with coin carts before 2000 was Costco and they don’t even do that anymore. Part of the problem is that US currency doesn’t have dollar coins (or higher) in real circulation like in Europe. So people don’t carry around coins in general if they can avoid it.

I'm from the UK and Aldi is one of the nation's favourite supermarkets. The best way to describe it is to imagine the chocolate bar Penguins. Aldi has their own version called Seal Bars. Now apply that logic to everything.

There was genuinely an episode of Columbo where a criminal was arrested because his bite mark was found in a piece of cheese at the scene of the crime...
@bcaye
@bcaye 7 ай бұрын
I seem to recall a true story😅 when that was a factor. Can't remember much but I believe the guy was a burglar and the cheese didn't help catch him but it was instrumental to his conviction. I remember thinking if I just burgled a house my appetite would be zero but this guy stopped and had a snack. However, a well known case, Ted Bundy, involved a bite mark, unfortunately on a woman's buttock.

My NY state Aldi has self checkout. It works great because most Aldi labels have multiple bar codes on them. That's why the checkout people are so fast.

They said that Aldi didn't go the way of the self checkout, but they actually do have self checkouts. And things aren't just sitting on pallets, they actually do have shelves.
@GeneralBumpkis

I’ve been to many Aldi around the NC triangle, and the only things they still have on pallets are like large cases of water/sports drinks, and maybe occasionally some larger boxes of things up front near the door. But even Walmart has pallets of water. Nobody wants to restack that mess on a shelf.

@@normalman4762 Trader Joe's is owned by families that also own part of Aldi Nord. Trader Joe's and Aldi Nord operate independently. Trader Joe's has no business or ownership relationship with Aldi Sud (including Aldi U.S.). from trader joes themselves on their website. I was being a bit facetious and deserve correcting on that part but my main point is correct :)
