the vid for the Rainbow machine on Knobs pulled me out of a 10 year guitar hiatus. i was totally what i erroneously called a "feedback rock" guitarist in my day, highly inspired by sonic youth and the more improvisational nirvana songs. with that vid it started me down a rabbit hole of discovering pedals have come a long way in 10 years. knobs got me hooked on EQD, but i still have trouble getting to do anything usable other than its chorus stuff from the rainbow machine but by golly ill keep trying. reverse delay with Avalanche Run with the rainbows magic has gotten me some cool stuff though. Anyways, now that im back at it trying to make new sounds this pedal zone channel has been non stop awesome for me. good job stefan!

I've found that if you turn the tracking down pretty low, the rainbow machine makes for a pretty solid slapback delay, if that's your thing.

I'm glad you demoed it with reverb and delay since that's how I planned on using it and it seems to create some "stellar" sounds.

Another brilliant video. I’m one of those people who has a rainbow machine and just tends to use it for one-off noises here and there. This is a great lesson on the subtlety this pedal is capable of. Great work as always Stefan.

I use my rainbow machine on almost exactly the same setting! The only difference in my setup is that I have the tracking around 9 o' clock to add depth, and I max out the magic. I use the rainbow machine as a chorus, and then hit the magic switch for bursts of feedback that I run into a dd6, dd3, and pitch shifter for stuttered chorus sounds that I pitch shift. As always, great video man.
@CorbCorbin6 жыл бұрын
Michael Cueto I do the same with a Uni-Vibe, a Kilobyte, and the Meteore, into a DD-3. Stomping the havoc for the madness. The DD-3 gets those trippy sounds, out really clear. *For a little pitch shifting sound I use the Malekko 616 after either Kilobyte or Meteore. It was Stefan's vids that influenced me to put delays and Tremolo after Reverb or other delays.

I am a huge fan of the rainbow machine, and I'm glad you were able to highlight the wonders and beauties of what is often considered a joke pedal. While its more extreme settings can result in more "sound effects" than music, it does make for a fantastic chorus effect. It's unique because the chorus is unmodulated; it's just a result of pitch differences and phase cancelation, which makes it more similar to a "unison" effect that you'd see on a software synthesizer. Thanks to your video, this aspect of the rainbow machine will get more exposure, and people can appreciate it for the awesome sound-sculpting tool that it is.
@LauraSquirrel6 жыл бұрын
I think that it is silly that anyone would consider this a "joke" pedal. But, people react to things differently. The Korg Miku seems more "jokey" to me. But, even that could serve a purpose if used in a certain way.

Can't help but notice the sounds you're getting are really similar to the EQD sea machine (one of my fave pedals!). I think the reason the sea machine is the better choice for most people is that in addition to the chorus and delay/regen (dimension knob on the sea machine), you can change the rate to get more vibey or rotary sounds. Great video though, always nice to see more musical settings on these more "creative" pedals

There's slight crossovers for sure, but it's not the same. I own both and love both. People craving something a bit more "normal" should definitely go for the Sea Machine. It's an incredible pedal. Nice demo - been thinking of getting this for my synths. This helped reinforce a few things for me: Sounds with a short release time will work best I think, perhaps with a bit of percussive tone. Passing this into a Dreadbox Hypnosis for the delay and spring reverb will be really great (it will feel quite a bit warmer than your Mercury7). I have to wonder what the Hypnosis' flanger section will do to the signal... I'm also curiously specifically what a spring reverb before the Rainbow Machine will sound like (probably just a mess...); I'll have to dry that out with my eoWave Quadrantid Swarm. Anyway, this def gave me ideas...

@thepedalzone6 жыл бұрын
Happy you enjoyed the video, man. Means a lot to me. There's a lot of sweet spots in this pedal. But a lot of those spots might not align with you and your style. I also have a video where I use it with an expression pedal to create synth-wheel-like bends (you can find that in the Tonal Teamwork tutorial playlist). In my band I use it as a faux-stereo-widener (it just makes everything sound bigger), and as a crescendo effect (by engaging magic) to make certain parts or breaks stand out. Nick Reinhart uses it to great effect for wild rhythmical patterns, by looping short passages of magic bursts. I dig it, because it's truly a pedal that forces you to think outside the box. It's not just one thing. It can be a lot of things depending on context and how your musical mind works ☺

This is the V2. But you can get the same sound with the V1. And trust me, I have plenty of Tonal Teamworks in the pipeline that feature some oddball effects 😊👌

@@thepedalzone Tonal Teamwork honestly is giving pedalsandeffects and ThatPedalShow a run for their money on being the best resource for pedal information. It's so much more straightforward and concise something that has kinda been lacking in other channels.

Ok .. this is the first video that really want me to buy this one... and I got other 7 EQD pedals ... dam 😅

You can never have too many EQD pedals. They are just too good :) Rainbow Machine will definitely take you to uncharted sonic territories

This is probably the first pedal-demo that makes me feel anxious. 'No Alexa; I want another word for noxious'. Bring on the Sushi ...
