Cool list Scot! Happy to see you included some of my favourite American prog artists like: The Mars Volta Thank You Scientist The Dear Hunter Izz Spock's Beard On who you missed (following your rules and excluding prog metal), my favs would have to be: Coheed and Cambria (while they have the odd metal moment, I don't really think they're a prog metal band) Mr. Bungle (hard to say what genre they are; some of their moments are metal but they're not really a prog metal band either, they're just really strange) Bubblemath Journey (they became a massive arena pop rock band but they did have some prog albums and songs) Bent Knee (you gave them a shout out, I guess they aren't proggy enough, maybe art rock?) Orbs Chon Steve Vai (not all prog but I think some of his stuff would qualify) The Claypool Lennon Delirium (maybe more psychedelic than prog) Jordan Rudess (how about some of his solo stuff? some of it is more on the classical side and doesn't hit me as hard but some of it is excellent prog rock) Schooltree (don't think I've heard you mention them so not sure if you know them but check them out if not cause I really think you'd like this band) My suggestions for inclusion if you do an American prog metal episode (you'd probably have most of these anyway): Between the Buried and Me Dream Theater Symphony X The Human Abstract Avenged Sevenfold (I questioned whether they are proggy enough to count as prog metal but I think they can now with their newest one) Periphery Tool The Dillinger Escape Plan Mastodon Cynic The Contortionist Intronaut The Faceless Byzantine Native Construct Art by Numbers Others by No One Nevermore Animals as Leaders Oceans of Slumber Fates Warning Artificial Language Black Crown Initiate Car Bomb Michael Romeo Psychotic Waltz Wilderun The World is Quiet Here Queensryche I, Omega

The Only one I have to say I do not get is Dream Theatre now do get me wrong I own 9 CD's and 3 DVD's and seen them live three times but they just do not grab my soul. As you can see it is not that I have not tried. I enjoyed them live but on record I appreciate their musicianship but I am not moved. But hey not all music is for everyone. Vive La Difference.

Prog to me if it loses the tune is not Prog anymore. It can incorporate any genre And it should that is the great bit it is the music that embraces all music styles . But never forget the tune. My name is Martin by the way love your channel Scot.

Happy the Man is my favorite American, obscure, and eclectic prog band. I’m more impressed by them then any other Ameri-prog band I’ve came across. They had a completely original sound. I really wish they could’ve stayed together longer. I know they reformed, but its not the same without Kit. And RIP Frank.

The USA is just not a great progressive rock country compared to England ,but I do really like Kansas. Point of no Return is my favourite. I have listened to it for more than 40 years now and still enjoy listening to this great album.

Nothing compared to what was going on in the UK back then. Ever or since. But the US still had some great bands!!!

Nice to have Utopia in the background but for me Utopia were a far better pop rock group and their prog stuff seemed like pointless noodling. i cannot doubt that album cover is great though. I view Prog like Punk as peculilarily BRITISH. Anyway thanks for the upload Oh if you havent done it before favourite album covers

Whoever requested the ukelele was right! It was awesome! Just like this impossible video, I mean, so many great 🇺🇸bands! And Happy Treason Day, ungrateful colonials! 😂
@TheProgCorner Жыл бұрын
We really were ungrateful. England almost went bankrupt protecting the colonies during the French and Indian Wars. The crown was within its right to ask for a little recompense with the Stamp Act, etc. But no!!! We Americans didn’t like being told what to do!!! We still don’t!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Does it really matter where bands come from or who created this or that. America has great bands,but only England could really come up with lyrics in song like "There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag He used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag The frog was a prince The prince was a brick, the brick was an egg, the egg was a bird" Madogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun😂

Prog died in 1980 and I refuse to recognize any bands as being prog after that year, my opinion. Plus it keeps everything neat with no need to worry if it's prog or if that crap you are hearing is even music at all!

@@TheProgCorner I have tried listening to the 2 prog bands that Andy Edwards was part of but it all sucked causing me to ask him "Why Andy why??? You are so much better than that Andy"!!! He should start his own band and with him in the drivers seat his band could only be matched to the likes of Gentle Giant, ELP or Kaipa

I never liked Styx...they always seemed like prog wannabes to me, and I can't stand Dennis DeYoung's voice (although they did have some good stuff early on, when John Curulewski was in the band.) Kansas is a great choice for #1, although they also went the way of Journey/Boston/REO Speedwagon later in their career.
@TheProgCorner Жыл бұрын
DDY called Styx Prog Lite. Who am I to argue??!! You should check out their two latest albums. Very solid. And I was so sad when Kansas went commercial. Audio Visions broke my heart…
