I think that if a horror movie director had touched Get Out it wouldn’t had been as good. Jordan Peele has a vision and he executed it very well.

If any other director touched Get Out it would be a different movie. This bullshit where we say that movies made with a clear and distinct and singular vision should be made by other filmmakers needs to end.

The horror is fucking fantastic in its own right, what the hell are people talking about?! It's shot excellently!
@akaTGMC7 жыл бұрын
I agree with you guys that Jordan Peele was a great director for the movie, and that he had a clear vision. I think maybe what Ralph should’ve said instead is that the film should’ve had a horror cinematographer, instead of a different director. I thought the movie was pretty great, but if it had some better cinematography and lighting it would’ve been a more effective horror film. As it is, it’s a hilarious, kind of horrifying movie (I personally thought all the most horrifying parts came from the script, not the filmmaking)
@tbrown58362 жыл бұрын
My issue with get out was the comedy, it was good but the third act felt like a comedy and a horror film rather then a horror film with comedic elements, especially the third act where things happen that just shouldn’t and then the friend comes and is cracking up jokes after his friend just killed like 4 people and watched his girlfriend die, that being said I thought jordon peeles direction was great for a horror/comedy, it’s just the writer that could make it feel a little dumb

The plot really pales in comparison to the rest of the movie, but the themes, atmosphere and characters is what makes it one of the best movies of the year. This movie also bleeds my aesthetic. I was completely sold by the first scene, the slow pace and elongated scenes never bothered me because I love long scenes of contemplation. Ralph is entitled to his opinion, but for me who doesn't value plot as much other artistic aspects of a movie this was was my number 1.

I saw Mother! for the first time a few days ago. The use of sound, light, camera work and subtle use facial expressions were brilliant - it really got under my skin. But fuck, the last half an hour or so made me feel ill. Full sensory overload to the point I could barely breath. It's been a long time since I felt so overwhelmed by a film that I actually had to walk out of the room. I initially thought the same as Ralph, that it was some sort of metaphor to the struggles of creativity and living with it, and those who wish for fame so much they'll even sacrifice those they love, but then my friend told me it was a metaphor for the rape and pillage of Mother Earth and the early biblical stories. It made the film make more sense but also kind of ruined it for me. I think I would have been happier to have the film just be about the destructive nature of creativity, or focusing more of J-Law's anxieties and worries as a woman living with a creative older man who doesn't pay her enough attention, rather than trying to be too deep and artsy and going all biblical.
@miles62837 жыл бұрын
I have asperger's syndrome, so I really get what you mean by sensory overload, I've had experiences like that with movies,and a lot of times in person where the senses are just too much. I haven't seen it though, but I understand how a movie like that can make you feel. I want to see it but I know that it would be hard to sit through, it would be to overwhelming and uncomfortable for me.
@boobysr7 жыл бұрын
It was pretty easy to tell that Javier Barden was god, because the god metaphor and biblical allusions are so done to death in cinema that even non religious people like me could see them, but the execution was pretty shit. Once you get the message of the movie (that everyone's relationship with god is different), it's a pretty pointless movie. Tell me something I don't know. Also, that scene where they eat the baby is disgusting and uncalled for. I'm sort of glad no one paid to see this movie. I don't want to see countless pretentious copies of this hollow gorefest.
@boobysr7 жыл бұрын
But to be fair, the rave scene and Kirsten Wiig's dual pistol executions were pretty hilarious.
@animeducky97 жыл бұрын
My boyfriend and I suffer from mental health issues and it was really overwhelming in every way, but I sort of couldn't take my eyes off it. That said, I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone who suffers from anxiety, mental health or sensory-related issues - especially with how oppressive, claustrophobic and distressing some of the ending were. I knew nothing about this film so I was expecting a psychological thriller where Javier Barden goes nuts and kills his "muse" or something like that so in some ways I was a little disappointed, but once a friend mentioned the whole allegory thing the film made more sense, although the God x Mother Earth thing is such an overdone cliché. I almost think it would have been better as just some weird, arty film in it's own right, without all the symbolism

You have to understand that Ralph's opinion of movies isn't gospel. You can like whatever you want to. I haven't seen that movie, but I think it'd be easy to understand where he's coming from. The movie tries to emotionally manipulate you by having the main character be a mother/father, and apparently didn't do anything special. Zombie movies are pretty difficult to be original with. The core concept has been beaten to a pulp at this point. But again, Ralph isn't saying you can't like Train to Busan. He's just saying that, in his opinion, it wasn't a very good movie.
@alivenotwell7 жыл бұрын
