Have been looking for an Nvidia Shield TV box replacement. Agree with you that the 2019 refresh is not worth the price. However, the reviews of the Beelink GT King Pro are pretty lousy on Amazon! Only 50% really like it 🤔. That's pretty sad in my opinion. So, I ordered a cheap alternative that has excellent reviews. If it works OK for a year I will be ahead. Don't believe most people understand why apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play and others don't work as expected. Every Android tv box has its quirks but I see many people giving 1 star reviews ONLY because the cheap box they purchased doesn't stream Netflix or Amazon Prime in 4K. It would be helpful, I believe, if you could do a video about some of the highly rated "cheap" boxes and explain why they can't play Netflix or Prime in 4K and often times are limited to 480p. depends on what you want. Take away the Netflix and Amazon streaming issue (I don't use them and have them on my Smart TV if I decide to start) and for me, I see no reason to pay the premium right now. If I could have gotten something like the Black Friday deals, I may have bitten on a Shield, and may still one day - but the Shield price is getting close to PC hardware that could eat a Shield for lunch performance-wise. Of course the Shield is superior for emulation but again, it's close to PC hardware in price, and I'd have to take a good long look at a budget PC with GPU if/when I decide to emulate more than my $60 Odroid XU4 build (up to DC/N64, atomiswave, saturn, etc.)

I bought an x96max+ in december and a new 2019 shield, I installed over 2 dozen apps and apks I like to use a few games and an eye p service or 2 and tested for 3 weeks, I began my tests from the minute i plugged them in and kept track of all test and install info and speed, final conclusions the x96 in every use from install to final end of testing, it was just as fast as the shield in every single area, the bluetooth setup of my bt devices was easier on the max, the shield had issues detecting mine and I had to jump through a few hoops and waste time getting them to work, overall for $36.49 for the max with 4gb/64 the max blows the shield away, and I doubt 90% of shield owners ever do any type of testing and the new amazon cube also was just a tad bit slower than these 2, but it was right there, if the shield had been the device i was expecting, my Ultimate streaming device i would have kept it, but for $213 with tax, it was nowhere near worth it and it turned out it was barely 1-3% faster than the old shield not the 25% Nvidia lied about, I've found most shield users never have even tried another device and if they have it's been older ones or something that really was crap. Most have never tried another really good device, $200 is a waste for streaming.

The point I'm trying to get to is eventually we will all just end up with PCs in the living room. Microsoft was worried that Sony would dominate the living room space with their Playstation hence why they made the Xbox console, the irony is every manufacturer and their grandma have are having multimedia & gaming set top boxes in the living room now. I understand why you stopped reviewing android boxes a few years ago and why I sold mine a few years ago. Not having even HD playback from Netflix and Amazon is a total deal breaker and unacceptable now in 2020, never mind not having 4K. I have a 4K Firestick and will be sticking with it for the fact it gives me 4K from the mainstream apps and it only cost me £20 on Prime Day sale. I bought one from gearbest. Took over three months to ship due to high demand. When I finally received the box it looked used. Plugged everything up and noticed they forgot to include the USB receiver for the air mouse remote. Made using the box very difficult, still had the IR function. And I noticed there were apps and files installed on there from the previous owner, so indeed it was used. I guess they forgot to take it off. Anyway, I did a factory reset and now any wireless or Bluetooth mouse I use is so laggy it makes unusable. So I definitely recommend not buying from gearbest.

Thank you for the very objective and complete review. The Netflix and Amazon prime video in BD is definitely a deal breaker for me. The price difference with the Shield TV is too thin (~30€). For me the Shield still TV gets the W. I still think this one will last longer than a Xiaomi Mibox S because of the overall build quality.

The metal build may actually serve as a heatsink, just don't touch it when it's working to dissipate heat, unless you want to cook something alongside (it might do like an electric stove!).

Both of my 2015 Shields are still flawless but this might be good for people who don't want to pay $200 for a new Shield as they are taking the piss with them prices. I paid £120 for mine with a controller in 2015.

Granted you can install anything but you have to jump through hoops to do so plus some apps don't work properly and aren't better than their smart TV counterparts.

My King pro will be here in two days. My Smart TV has Amazon and Netflix in 4k if I ever want to use them (I don't watch tv anyway). My box will be all about streaming my own content using Kodi, KZbin plus Retroarch and VNCing into my other PC's. I require an open device, so this one is a no-brainer. The Shield is superior in most ways (it should be for the price) - but I don't like 'closed' devices.

In the $100 bracket there are she'd loads of options for Android boxes. Easiest option for most people have to be fire TV cube or fire stick. The only shield killer is the shield. Nothing touches it.

I actually ordered the regular beelink gt king from Gearbest months ago and didn't receive it so I payed a little more to get the gt ok pro which is actually being shipped. Originally the gt series was gonna be my go to box. However because I've been waiting so long for the beelink gt king to arrive I decided to buy the Nvidia Shield pro which I'm feeling is an unbeatable machine. I would still have my 2017 and videos field if it were not for the upgraded remote control. And the addition of the wonderful and super upscaling. This is really the best upscaling I’ve ever seen including any Sony or Samsung TVs. I bought the 2019 model sold my 2017 model with the remote control that I didn’t care for four Approximately $100. And kept the game pad. So I spent to upgrade my whole system approximately $50. Not bad because you know any Nvidia shield no matter what year it is if you put it on eBay it will sell in command a good price

I love my Shield and have been on it since 2016. If you are an Amazon Prime member and you are not streaming your TV, you are not using your Prime membership to its fullest extent. It is a little bit of a transition; however, Sling and HULU fill the gap of LIVE TV. I find I use Netflix and Amazon Prime (w/extension channels) the most and HULU occasionally for original content. I especially enjoy NOT having commercials, where KZbin is starting to go more and more. With SLING, make sure your remove your payment option if you cancel your service. I would suggest that you test a streaming platform for two months before making up your mind and know where it fits into you occasional needs.

Whats IPTV? My old cheap Chinese box from years ago plays 1080p HEVC and X264 files without any lag whatsoever, I think any box can do that, and my 2 hard drives, 4tb each, are full with content and theres still no lag on KODI. I only want the new GT-pro because of the audio quality and faster menus.

My Mibox 3, several years old now is acting up. Crashes frequently, even after factory reset. I can't afford an Invidia Shield and was holding out hope for something else. Don't feel like this box will be on my "gotta get" list. But thanks for the review.

What I've noticed with these Android boxes coming out of China is that they're not compatible with our WiFi or internet here in the US, they do work but they don't read your full internet speeds, only about 1/3 of it.. I had 2 different brands and my last one is the New Pendoo 10 Max and it only reads about 75Mbps wired from my 250Mbps internet speeds and only 35Mbps on wifi... I know this is not on the one on review but the same could happen..

@@johnnyaingel5753 ok after talking to my internet provider, it's not that it's not compatible, because I have an internet speeds of 250Mbps but my Pendoo box only reads 75Mbps wired and 35Mbps via wifi and it's because the box doesn't support those high speeds so before buying an Android box find out from the company if it supports the speeds intended...

Many devices claim doing a lot. The Problem is actually doing it, wich they don’t handle very well. Specs isn’t everything, as apple proved it over and over again. People just love things that work, without mods and workarounds. Maybe some day a nvidia shield will come but that day is nowhere near close, my opinion.

It is very fast. But what good is it if you can’t play Netflix in hd. Or some of the other major streaming service. Dose much better with 3rd party apk like. Cat mouse ,cyberflix. And of course kodi.

I'm a Beelink fan. I was concerned about purchasing a $200 No Name brand from China PC but I must say it hasn't died. I don't use it all the time but I've had it for years now and if it was a piece of crap it would be dead by now. Agree that said homescreen is sad. However I've found their support is very responsive. I once asked for a feature on a tiny little Android box they sell and they provided it days later. Days. Ask them nicely maybe? From Antutu benchmark's point of view, most mobiles score better results than Nvidia shield TV pro. I can play the same apps on mobile faster and without a sweat. And my mobile costs less than Nvidia Shield TV pro. Just mirror it to the TV and you are good to go.

It's a nice box but a Shield beater it isn't, doesn't even come close, I've still got the 2015 500Gb Shield, still getting all the updates and she's a beast, never let me down, and if it ever packs up then I will be replacing immediately with another Nvidia Shield... Its by far the best unit out there.....

4 years with Nvidia shield and this 2020 product still doesn't compare. Yes it might seem overpriced over some of these byproducts - but the support and pure butter smooth feel of the shield can't be beat. And if sideloading is a pain in the butt - then you're probably not the person for android boxes and get yourself an apple TV.

You fail to mention that if they incorporate the flagship tech of phones that the Beelink or any Brand would cost around 1000 dollars or more hence the lower end tech which even the NVIDIA shield still uses other than the actual Nvidia GPU within the shield making it KILL any standard box in graphic capabilities. However, I own a S10+ and they now come with Samsung Dex which is like having a PC style desktop that pops up when you attach a powered USB C to HDMI cord. I still prefer the old T95Z PRO android box I have for my bedroom T.V over the Dex even though the Dex has far superior performance and such due to the ease and comfort of playing simple racing games, city building games, shooters and such all at full performance and watching movies at the touch of a button with simple ease where the DEX requires me to hook up the cable and have my phone out of reach while watching movies or playing games.

Just to answer the question posed in the title. NO. Not even close to killing Nvidia. So tired of youtubers trying to put forward garbage boxes in comparison to the Shield. If you want to run high end emulators there is nothing short of a PC that will compare.

I owned the standard beelink and gave it away. I bought it because of the specs but random restarts (usually just before the name of the killer is revealed) eventually caused me to give it away. I agree with pretty much everything in the review with the exception of the stability which is not mentioned. I am using the bqeel android streaming box which has similar specs, a very good price (~$70) and, for the last 2 months, proven to be very stable. BTW, the Rii K18 Plus is an excellent, backlit keyboard for a very reasonable ~$27. I came across this video because I’m currently researching the current status of streaming boxes for a friend who is in the market. Don’t see much improvement (so far) in the specs overall so, unless I come across something different I’ll probably go with the tried and true bqeel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. PS, to establish ‘stability’ you have to use the device for sometime. The beelink didn’t show its true colors until after a few weeks of pretty much almost constant use. Now with the lockdown both my wife and I are giving the Rii K18 a daily beat down and it has proven itself to be steady-Eddie. Just my 2 cents.

For $129 you can purchase the Nvidia Shield Stick and not to mention Netflix is only SD...That makes this product an instant failure.
