Screw a field tip into the insert before heating and installing. Simply hold the field tip with a pair of pliers and heat away from your fingers. Helps to warm the glue and the insert/field tip before inserting so it doesn't set up too fast if you want to clock your broadheads with a specific orientation consistent between all arrow setups.

I tell you Kaitlyn I really am liking what I see on your video. You are an archer through and through, it is now in your blood. You know why we practice so much every day, 25 to 50 arrows into the targets each day. So, when the time is right and your at full draw on the biggest buck you have ever seen, you can go back to fundamentals and pick a spot just like in practice and drill it home. Then get the shakes so bad you have to hold on to your tree. I wish the best this year and Good Luck!

Love that you do EVERYTHING you’re self! I hope you’re open to suggestions and don’t take offense to it. I have 2 daughters and soon my granddaughter that bow hunt 45 to 48 lb draw bows. I build 550-650 grain HEAVY arrows for them. That includes 100 grain brass inserts and 200 grain single bevel heads. One of my daughters hit a bit forward on a quartering TOO buck and afte breaking the shoulder it completely passed through the hind quarter! The momentem is incredible even on low draw weight bows!! Crimson Claw now makes a single bevel called the Cleaver, $30 for a 3 pack! The heaviest they have is a 150 grain but we had complete pass through on every deer this year. One even hit and CUT a limb before hitting the deer and STILL passed through! The arrow speed is slower by THOUSANDTHS, not enough to have a problem with jumping the string with 35 yds and in. Just a tip from an old hunter, use it or don’t. It’s just more reassuring to know you can hit a bit forward and WILL break a shoulder, prob even both.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people knocking your arrow weights and so on. You have surrounded yourself with plenty of people who have a wealth of knowledge in archery and with your broadhead choice I think your setup is excellent. One of my old bows was a Parker Hunter Mag that at 28"/60lb draw shot arrows of roughly the same weight as your build at the roughly the same velocities you should be getting. I not once had any issues with penetration running fixed heads. In fact we had a bow that passed through a couple of us that was WAAAAAAY less bow that if kept out of the front shoulder it had no issues penetration whitetail. 24" @47lb but an older Browning Micro Midas from around 2000. I'd have been surprised if shot over 185-190fps with even lighter arrows than yours, and that bow took several deer. Again, fixed heads of moderate size makes a huge difference as you have said. Great shooting!! And good luck this year.

I have been bow hunting Whitetails for close to 30 years. My advice, take it or leave it, get a 200 grain head and bump it up to 484. The average shot distance most people take whitetail hunting is probably 25 yards. How many shots have you taken past 30 yards whitetail hunting? Having a flat shooting arrow is great, but for your draw weight and length you should rethink and approach your arrow build like a trad shooter wanting to maximize penetration through heavier weight and higher FOC. You are right on shooting the fixed blade, but at 384 grains with a low draw weight, I see a lot of backing out and waiting till morning in your future. Good luck this season.

Great vid. Your adding an awful lot of weight to the back of your arrow. I build my wife's in a similar way but I'd definitely recommend at least losing the wraps and maybe going with a slightly heavier insert to offset the lighted nock. Also use a field point to install your inserts it's way safer. Thanks for the vid.

I have a lighter pull too (yay shoulder injuries) and I have found that if I use a little heavier front of center arrow that I’m getting much improved penetration. I use Easton Axis match grade 400, 75 grain inserts, 125 grain Iron Will broad heads and 3 AAE Hunter fletchings at 1 degrees. Also, I have 4 daughters and they love your videos. I think you can use a heavy arrow with a short draw, you just have to know that it's going to shorten your range as well. If you always hunt and shoot animals within 25 yards a heavy arrow is just fine. But you are correct if you're shooting whitetail at 35 yards with a short draw and a light draw, you may need to have a lighter arrow.

The thing with heavy arrows…You only need a certain amount of energy to make it through a whitetail. When you blast through it and bury your arrow into the ground you are wasting energy. Energy that you could turn into speed, and still could pass through the deer no problem. Medium weight arrow and cut on contact > everything.
@ApexPredatorOutdoors
@ApexPredatorOutdoors Жыл бұрын
@@pik2490 I agree. Too light of an arrow gives no penetration too heavy you waste speed. If your hunting pretty much anything bigger than a whitetail though a heavy arrow will ensure that if you hit bone a single bevel can still penetrate adequately.

Great video, I switched to a heavy arrow setup 2 years ago , it’s definitely a transition , and I’m shooting a broad head that costs 33.00 for one so I’m definitely more aware of my shots cause I’m not gonna lie, the farm I hunt owns over 100.00 in broad heads and axis arrows cause of misses , but I’d rather miss than wound an animal!!! Whatever works best for you is what I’d go with!!! Like you said not everyone is the same if that’s the case be one set up for us all !!! Good luck be safe and god bless

Also, rolling wraps around an arrow shaft works best using a computer mouse pad, because only the back end is on the pad and not the entire shaft. I also take a sharp blade and cut off the overlap on the wrap and just glue a vane over the seam.

Very good to hear that you've moved to fixed, cut on impact broadheads. You're right about mechanicals, they fail. Just last year I watched another hunter shoot a caribou 8 times with mechanicals. The animal finally died but long after his last shot. Mechanicals are really bad on penetration. As for white vanes, I love them. Sometimes I go all white. First, they are easy to track under low light. Second, white blends into the skyline. Lastly, IMHO and experience, deer don't view white as danger or an alarm. I even call deer to my stand with white. One of my sons killed his first deer with a bow because of the white socks he was wearing, no boots. The deer was so focused on the white socks, she never gave the 2 of us any concern, a 10 yard shot. Hood luck this season.
