I wanted to share with you today an easy way to make delicious meat pies at home. For less than what they cost at the store and for very little time and effort.
This recipe comes from a home economics textbook that I used during high school (Food, People and Technology, Book 2 by Gail Major and Glenda Maes. Published in 2000 - This recipe is featured on page 52).
The recipes are great for beginners. Although since my high school days, some have become favourites and I make them all the time.
For this recipe you will need:
300gm Beef Mince (i used 85% meat, 15% fat)
1 tbsp. Olive Oil (omit if using above meat/fat ratio)
1 onion, chopped
6 tsp. All-purpose Flour
1 Beef flavoured stock cube
1 cup Water
1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoon Tomato Soup Concentrate (I used tomato paste)
Salt and Pepper to Taste
2-4 sheets Shortcrust Pastry
This recipe makes 12 mini, 4 individuals. If making a large family-sized pie, double the filling recipe above (serves 4-6). Serve on its own with tomato ketchup or with a side salad.
The estimated cost of this recipe is between $8 - $10. But the price may vary based on country, location, store, and ability to access sale/clearance items that may reduce the cost of this recipe.
