I feel that Echo Creek is quite limited. But this has station is an amazing staging area where you can store food, gather supplies before raiding other townz

No way really? I’ll head back! You’re right though I think it’s quite a limited town but a good starter with a ton of surrounding opportunities. 3 half decent towns nearby and some solid base opportunities, great way to learn the build that’s for sure

I do normally build much more of a story with journals and things and bring the character to life but I’m having too much fun just learning new things to do that yet but all in good time. I’m glad you enjoyed it though and welcome to the channel! :)

Loved the Echo start to be honest, the gas station is 100% my favorite starter base. Being close to so many farms I plan on building a fenced in spot out back for some livestock and a farm. I went to ekron's college for books, and made out pretty good as well as cleared the shooting range out, currently moving storage back to the basement making a prepper bunker basement.

It’s such a good spot isn’t it! Probably one of the best I’ve seen for a good while! Ekron college is a good shout, I was thinking riverside book store but it’ll be a good chance to explore! I had the same plan for the back end with the farming too. Does a generator power downstairs yet? I heard there’s a little bug with basements and generators but I’m yet to test it!

Well mate power is still on, get those gas cans and hit the pumps. Fill the cars around as fuel storage until you can use the generator because you really do want to then fill all of those gas cans with water. Also when you are near a chair, just press E to sit. Every cell had a weight limit even in B41, the limit has always been 50.

The gas cans are filled to the brim, cars next on the agenda! Generator isn’t a bad idea to get topped off too. I didn’t know that about chairs either that’s a handy one to know, thanks! I’m almost certain I’ve had piles of gas cans, log stacks, so many things over 50 weight I don’t ever remember a limit

@@Vulrhund I'm very very strongly suggesting to you now, get those gas cans filled with water as you cannot plumb sinks. I also suggest getting a rain collector asap too and maybe using the gas cans filled with water to fill those as the base rain collector now holds 400 and can be built with carpentry 3 and either 1 tarp or 4 garbage bags. I noticed that a rain collector I built outside and filled with water didn't get filled with rain nor contaminated, bug or not, dunno.

I cant stop commenting, I just realized. I stayed in the gas station for 4 days and it never occurred to me once to cross the bridge and visit that logging store. Man, I got too comfy. Should push myself to go explore. This game genuinely has me scared from going out after a long time

Haha I don't know how you missed it, saw that door and just needed to go explore! The spot over the bridge is grand too, such a good base spot I'm very torn between the two, if it wasn't for the gas pump I'd absolutely be there

the garbage dumpster can be placed infront of large windows so there is no need to barracade the windows, wooden boxes 1 top of the other can be placed infront of the doors at night. the back staircase can upto the 1st floor can be tricky.. so gather ripped clothes ropelines from the 1st floor downwards and the first floor frontal balcony. remove all bodies from the building or you'd have corps sickness... have spare mask and hazmat masks with air filters.

Now that's not a bad idea, got a few around too could shift some and get it nice and secure! The wooden boxes are a good shout too, sound trap if nothing else. The back staircase has an airlock door and windows that can be boarded so it's not too bad! The downstairs zeds haven't been an issue yet, taking it as it comes so far!

Zoms go straight for things you've built. Use that to your advantage. I have them always now going straight for just one of my boarded windows instead of my door. Don't bother "fortifying" as it's a zombie magnet.

It’s a tough one these days though because any movement gets picked up so quickly from outside that I want it to be safe and sound, just in case they catch a light on the outside and start b lining for me, it’s a tough balance

@@Vulrhund oh you are going to love some places nearby... There are tons of great little areas around. If you head out east, go untill you hit the main big road. Then go north. Keep going and you will find a awesome little mall/store place. Also if you continue going up north past some houses (not to far) there is a GIANT gated community. 16 massive houses. It really feels like Alexandia from TWD. The place is also called Meadshire Estate. Check it out! It is very awesome

There was a mechanic in the last build that no one takes advantage of i bet its still in the game if you eat a lot of food with high protein like meats you gain more strength XP when exercising might be worth testing if its still in the game doubt they removed it

I’d assume it’s in this game too, I always forget just how powerful nutrition can be but it was a nice addition. Maybe once I get a farm up and running I’ll make the most of it

The default time set for being able to reread a book is like 50 in game days, nowhere close to a week.

I had something cool, well sorta happen. You know those tree stump looking things you couldn't do a single thing about in b41? I had an option appear for pick up item. I'm like, what? Ok, let's see what happens...... It gave me a log. 42.0.2 now. :)

You won't believe but I stayed in that gas station resting and just resupplying and looting for 4 in game days. Just organize and loot after a huge battle. And I never crossed the bridge. Now I see McCoy logging, and defo gonna cross and see what's there. Point being, I think Build 42 has us on edge, so we pretty much are prioritizing safety first XD

They do! I think they’ve always got an oil lamp, I’m yet to find one but they look great

There are propane lamps now. One of the fun parts about B42 is that there's soooo many new items, and alternative items, that you can do multiple weeks-long runs and then come onto KZbin and a) see a pile of cool new items you had no idea existed and b) get to watch other players ignore new items because they don't know their use yet, while looking for items that are no longer needed. We just have so many options. A bleach bottle, for example, is a terrible water bottle now, and a bourbon bottle is even worse (off the top of my head they're 1.2 and 1.4 respectively now). The best water bottles now are 500ml canteens (are the Western ones bigger?) that can be attached to your belt/webbing, and 2 litre soft drink bottles that obnly weigh in at 2.1 when full. Also, something I noticed last night is that all of those new paperback books we got are exactly what they say they are - paperback versions of the hardcover books we already had... and a paperback weighs about half of what a hardcover does. Following on from that, among the books and magazines are a variety of RPG materials and the new mementos include multi-faceted dice. I'm fairly sure I saw 6-sided dice in B41 but that might have been a mod. I have seen them in B42, though, and I've also found 20-sided and 8-sided dice. I'd be willing to bet that B42 has made a lot of OCD players' dreams come true at the very same time as their nightmares. I just want to find a torch I can attach to my webbing but there's some poor bastard out there whose life won't be complete until they've collected all of the books and all of the mementos and the ID card of every zombie they've ever killed.

Honestly the "Gasoline" thing being almost non-existent in cars doesn't seem realistic whatsoever. If you think about it, if you have a car do you actually ever let it run out of gasoline? No. Every car on every street, house is filled with gasoline to some degree. you could argue that in a situation of a zombie apocalypse people will be stealing that gasoline left and right where possible. But most cars are protected from siphoning without keys. either way, the further you go into the apocalypse the less likely you would find running cars and/or gasoline but not at the start. So that is a little deviation from reality that the game likes to pursue. Though, I also understand that you want to add atleast some hardship to cars, as its not as fun if you can just carjack any car and drive around it with no hassle whatsoever.

I think the ones on the road make sense but the ones parked absolutely not, I think I've ran out of gas once because I broke my fuel sensor and forgot to fix it but there's no way everyone has a broken fuel sensor :D Even early days though I don't think a lot of people would be siphoning gas, would be a last resort and 9/10 wouldn't even know how to do it so it's an interesting game choice for sure. I think 6 months later it all makes sense but not day one. But like you say, the toughness makes it more enjoyable for me, otherwise I just mount up and having a rolling fortress forever and it makes things far too easy but from a realism perspective it's very wrong

@@Vulrhund Doesn't matter how much later because you're still the only survivor, everyone would have turned in the same early days time period. If anything 6 months later there should be next to no zoms still getting around as they all would have rotted or if you subscribe to the theory that I do that they are actually still alive, they all would have starved or dehydrated.
