Best Beginner Dual Sport

Why I think the Yamaha XT250 is the best beginner dual sport bike

Been riding DP bikes since 1982, and I agree. However, only if the rider is medium size or smaller. The XT250 is actually quite small with tight ergonomics and very low seat height. I am about 5' 7 1/2" with 32" inseam and it is pretty small even for me. It was perfect for my wife though is 5'4" with a much shorter inseam. It is a VERY well built motorcycle. For riders over 5' 8" or so, a CRF300L or KLX300 would probably be a better choice as those would take much longer to "out grow". Also the XT has ergonomics designed for sit-down riding. The plush suspension and soft seat make it really excel in this role. However if/when a rider's skills improve and they want to ride faster/more aggressively, the sit-down ergos become a reason to trade it in on something more suitable for faster riding. Outstanding bike though for relaxed riding for just about anyone.

Yes true, I'm 5'11 and it's a little awkward standing up but not if you are in attack stance. Seat is the most comfortable stock seat ever and I can take that bike anywhere.

Klx300 is tall even for me at 6 foot the xt has the longevity to last a lifetime. Dont trade it just get one to suit your new need. Once its gone you will miss it.

What are your thoughts on Yamaha TW200? Comparable to the XT250?

@jeremydriggs-qb1ps I have not rode the tw200. From what I've seen of it the XT is more of a dual sport, road and trails. The TW is more of a farm bike that legally can be taken down a road ot to town to pick something up at the store. The wide mud tires for fields and I'm assuming low gearing. Be a great bike to get around a big property.
