Not a Kata Not a Bo Anyway, respect to a skill and effort paid
@kenhannah21145 жыл бұрын
It is a kata, a Kata is merely a series of movements in rhythm, and that is a bo, it is a raibo or lightning bo, they are often used in speed fighting, not heavy hitting, some are even thin enough to stab into the opponents fleshy areas
@quackadoodlemoo76445 жыл бұрын
Any bo could go through human tissue. Big hammer little hammer. Personally I prefer my bo. Heavy enough to deliver a solid strike. Welts sting but you remember broken bones.

@@kenhannah2114 nota true. That way a baby blabing Is singing. Kata have bunkai. This Is only for display
@meat-hook3 жыл бұрын
Bunkai is the breakdown of a kata to parse out oyo. A kata doesn't have it. It's done to the kata. Dude was throwing strikes, so it would be a training sequence. Some of it is flashy, but most forms are.
@darkpone37316 жыл бұрын
That was beautiful, while I do prefer forms to have a practical application the demonstration of his skill in handling the bo and his coordination is without question, brilliant creative form, very good, sir!

No doubt the gentleman is very skilled at what he does and this is a great performance. Same as all those videos we see of nunchaku. Very skilled people, very talented performers.But that is all it is. Performance. Like a dance or gymnastics routine. Full respect for those who have worked hard to learn and develop the skills. But this is NOT a martial art, it has nothing to do with MARTIAL ART and what he is wielding, in terms of the stick itself and what it represents is NOT Bo, bojutsu, and this display is NOT a kata.
@philyip44327 жыл бұрын
Vin Vass You are absolutely right ! I was going to say the exact same thing! Baton twirling is not Bo Kata. Let alone combat Bo Jutsu.

I guess I have to be the one naysayer on your comment. What he did is absolutely without a doubt compatible with the underlying principles of Martial ARTs. -- You can't get some one without dedication, discipline, stamina/endurance, focus, integrity, skill and perseverance to be able to perform a STAFF kata like that. Maybe it's not a traditional staff kata from ancient japan, but that kind of kata is outdated and would be boring as hell to watch. -- Bojutsu simply put is Staff technique including slashing, swinging, and stabbing (he did all of those). It doesn't specify what kind of staff you're using, that's why there are so many types of bo staves out there nowadays. A typical staff is "insert dimensions" for the type of practice you're doing. --- It's obvious the guy trains in some kind of Martial art. If not he wouldn't have done any traditional stances, and he'd be holding the staff incorrectly as far as hand position. And I bet if you put 2-4 attackers around him, put a rake, scythe, metal pipe, or hoe in his hands and he did most of the actual strikes in the same kata all the attackers would either get the snot beat out of them or they wouldn't get near him. --- If you're basing your assessment on his trick moves alone, then ok. But Any true martial artist knows that trick moves are just for fun and coordination and control practice. But keep in mind that the Shao Lin Monks do performances with trick moves as well, and they're almost the definition of True martial arts.

A kata is a series of realistic blocks and strikes. Rapid spinning of the weapon is neither of these things. While a real kata may involve BRIEF rapid rotation of the weapon, spinning it around and around and going around your neck etc. is just showoff stuff. Second, his weapon looks about half an inch in diameter. That is not a bo. As Vin Vass, says, this guy has some real skill and has obviously worked hard to perform this, but it should not be confused with an actual kobudo kata.

@Kre8or3337 жыл бұрын
A real bo? This has to mean you don't know what a "real bo" even means. If you mean Traditional Bo, ok. But Bo Staves nowadays come in lots of shapes and sizes. Hell this guy could have and broom handle in his hands and knock the crap out of anyone with most of the strikes he's doing. --- Trick moves aren't strikes, they're just for demo purposes. Any martial artist knows this.

Anybody remember the Star Wars kid? He was a portly high school kid maybe 15 years ago who took a video of himself using a broomstick as a Lightsaber trying to mimic Darth Maul, and he starts tripping all over the place. @@edteune for a guy that obviously has a mirror in his OWN studio, and his OWN youtube channel, we've seen YOU looking equally as fat, although taller, much older and not what anyone with eyeballs would call a handsome old man. You are also a bully that is disrespectful, which is contradictory of martial artists. Ed is a fraud. I could name 100 guys just here on KZbin that could walk into your lame studio and make a pretty awesome video of just beating you silly without any staff, or weapon and I'd split the revenue with you Eddie just to agree to it. Weak and feeble old bully that wishes he was a fat kid rather than a never was. Enjoy getting slower and weaker every year as that fat kid gets better at every weapon, and actual fighting technique and by the time he's 25, if he remembers your irrelevant old ass, he can come spar against you in your sad little dojo and make you eat that toothpick buddy.

The freestyle category is the place to put on the show. The judges are looking for something they have never seen before. The people saying that this is nonsense and pathetic and not practical are right it is, but the thing is thats what it's supposed to be, a show. If you actually were in competition and not a KZbin-fu master you would know there is a traditional Kata category and a freestyle category. Freestyle is where you bust out all the crazy sick cool looking moves you've been working on for fun.

Lookup old school Dog Brothers from the late 1980’s-1990’s. Particularly Eric “Top Dog”. That guy took a flashy version of Kali “stick fighting” and turned it into a legitimate fighting system. Like actually utilizing the stick as a fighting tool and tossed out the nonsense. He says that all this flashy stuff goes out the window as soon as they get hit in the head or hand the first time. It’s really hard to fight with a staff or a stick with a broken hand.
