Brandon Sanderson actually has a section on his website where he talks about where to start with his books on his website and has different suggestions for people who do read fantasy and people who haven't read much fantasy. I was told that you could read Warbreaker for free on his website as well! Which is so awesome.

I actually got into Brandon Sanderson's books after watching your videos earlier this year. I had never read anything by him prior to that. I picked up Mistborn and I was hooked. I haven't read Hero of Ages yet, but Final Empire and Well of Ascension were two of my favorite books this year. Thanks for recommending them on your channel!

I'm so happy that so many Sanderson books were mentioned in there !! I discovered him just this year and have now read seven of his books and plan on reading more, can't get enough ! I agree with everything you said about the Hero of Ages, by the end of the book I was hyperventilating at how amazing it was - mindblowing is really the word. Same goes for Elantris and Warbreaker (Nightblood was definitely the best haha). Definitely recommend BS's books to any fan of worldbuilding and plot twists. Bisous de France :)

I was not nearly as impressed by The Long Walk as you were, I read it a few years ago. I will say though, Station Eleven was by far my favorite book of the year (even tho I just finished it 2 days ago) and the other favorite was Because You’ll Never Meet Me, both of which were on your recommendation. Time to check out Pines and finally some B. Sanderson.

I finished the mistborn series so quickly loved those so now I will read the ones you recommended by Brandon Sanderson. Female of the Species was amazing so glad I read it but you are right that one hits deep! I loved the long way to a small and angry planet waiting for the sequel from the library. It reminds me of the show Firefly on Fox. If you haven't seen it you must highly recommend that show! If I could pick two from this year - they would be Clay girl by Heather Tucker - canadian author family and not sci fi at all but so amazing! And The Hate U Give. Both of those left an impression on me! Both character driven and both super well written.

Yess! Warbreaker is probably my favorite Sanderson book so far (only read the mistborn trilogy and Steelheart though) and am so sad that it's one of his least popular! I read it last year and loved it so much! But for some of my favorite books of this year would be, Godsgrave, The Refrigerator Monologues, and Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. Out of my almost 90 books I read this year, I didn't have many 5 star reads. Kinda of a meh reading year for me too.

Since you liked The Long Walk, i would recommend The Regulators, and its mirror book, Desperation. First one is still under the Bachman pseudonym , and the other is listed a a Stephen king novel. And they were released AT THE SAME YEAR ! I really liked them both, its a very interesting concept.

Great video, Emily! Also, total yeay for Sanderson's books! Btw, Sanderson has stated that Mistborn will consist of four trilogy instead of three. It used to be three, but the Wax and Wayne ended up being the second era even though it began as an experimentation. Sooo it will be Mistborn era 1: Medieval-ish Mistborn era 2: Wax and Wayne (finished in 2019) Mistborn era 3: thriller with contemporary-ish setting Mistborn era 4: futuristic sci fi setting As for Warbreaker, I cant wait for the sequels too!! (No idea when they're coming though.. Sanderson it will at least be after 2020) Sorry this ended up being long but it's hard to shut up when i'm talking about his books xD

Hey there, I totally agree about the Mistworld series, great world and magic system, and I also loved how they answered all their mysteries and questions and wrapped it all up in the end. Have you ever read the The Noble Dead Series by Barb and J.C Hendee? The First book is called Dhampir and the world building is fantastic, The characters are flawed but loveable, there is a little romance through the series but it is not cheesy and is not the main focus of the story. It is one of my favorite fantasy series. For Sci Fi I would love to know if you have read the Species Imperative trilogy by Julie E. Czerneda. The First book is called Survival and I would call it medium core sci fi. There is a little bit of a mystery, the characters are the driving force of the story, but the aliens and technology feel very real and believable. I would love to see your reviews of these books, based on what you have said about other books you have read, I think you might really like them. :) Jess

2016 I started the Mistborn trilogy of Sandereon and in 2017 I have continued with his other books Elantris, Warbreaker, The Way of Kings, Words of Radiance. It still boggles my mind how I finished these last two as they are like a thousand pages each. I will definitely keep reading his books.

You should check out Infinite Sacrifice by L.E Waters ^^ its a mixture between like everything. Historical fiction, a bit of fantasy kind of, religion and just a lot of interesting things. One thing you should know there is a lot of small things that you should notice from one story to the other (they are all connected) and sometimes its hard to follow. But i really liked it. Ive just read thr first book tho, so cant say about the rest of the series ^^

There is a fantasy author that I haven't heard anyone mention (it might be because his material is older), but that is Dennis McKiernan. I started with his book DragonDoom and went from there.

But Emily why didn't you include Attachments?! I know its your favorite LOL! :P The best books I read this year were probably The Remnant Chronicles, We Are the Ants, and More Than This by Patrick Ness. I also just finished The Knife of Never Letting Go by him and really liked that too!

I listened to the audiobook of the 15 Lives of Harry August and I wish I'd read it instead! I found the flipping back and forth between lives very confusing :S I just wanted to keep going with the current action!

You should try "Life After Life" by Kate Atkinson if you like "multiple lifes" trope.

My first stephen king book was The eyes of the Dragon. It is his version of a dark fairy-tale and such a great intro to him. You should check it out if you havent.

I don’t know if you’ve read it or not yet but if you enjoyed The First Fifteen Lives if Harry August you might also like Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. It’s a similar premise, with living a life over and over again, and I really enjoyed both of them!

Stephen King can be overwhelming especially if you're just beginning to read his books; I mean lets face it, he wrote A LOT. But I recommend Misery to anyone who wants to start reading his stuff. And also his novellas and short stories like Different Seasons and Skeleton Crew. Have you read Misery? I kind of want to know your thoughts on it. I was also in a real bad reading slump this year and read like less than 10 books and my favorite was definitely The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Happy Holidays :)

I got it from a library sale and didn't notice it was in French. The translation was hurting my soul after a few sentences so I DNFed it until I find it in English! Happy Holidays :)

If you like the getting a second chance at life premise, I would rec HOLY FIRE by Bruce Sterling. Follows an older woman who undergoes a procedure that turns her back into a teenager. Lots of cyberpunk elements
