I immediately went to buy the Dollmakers on kindle after seeing your review on goodreads and I just want to shout out that it is currently £0.99 on the uk amazon because of their black week deals! And so is The Tainted Cup, if anyone wants to take advantage of the sales 😍 very excited to read both!

I love this video so much! One of the books that made me not wanting to have kids, was The long way to a small angry planet, i don't know why but just the talk of the two characters about what materhood is....

Great list, even outside the "hit your list" hook. Sometimes it's nice to read a few short books in between larger novels.

I read The Sparrow and its sequel because of your recommendation and love it. It is such a fascinating story. I was hesitant because religion was such a big part of the story, but it didn’t end up bothering me. It just added to depth of the story and didn’t seemed to be pushing for it against faith. It just existed

I'm glad to hear The Dollmakers is good. It's on my TBR but I couldn't remember why. Probably the cozy-ish talk. I have a lot of "mystery TBR". 😅

I just got back to back bangers! -The Unmothers by Leslie Anderson was a really good folk horror I think you'd like! -The Wild Hunyress by Emily Lloyd-Jones is really good so far, and even has a cat who is like Clawdia and Charlie were combined in size and attitude! There were a lot of good quotes in The Ummothets, my personal fav was "Every man is some girls monstet"

I've started reading The Dollmakers because of you today. haha Did you see that the author mentioned on her GoodReads profile that she has planned more books set in that world? They won't be direct sequels but there will be an overarching story/narrative!

Love reading books about history and anti capitalism texts. Wish more booktubers would talk about nonfiction. One time I saw a tweet from a guy who said women didn’t like history and it was only because he only cared about military history. lol
@BookswithEmilyFoxКүн бұрын
Maybe we’d like history more if it hadn’t erased any contributions from women and didn’t detailed so much oppression 🤷♀️

I’m not a huge fan of SJM but I will say the throne of glass series gets much better. In the first book she’s bad on purpose because the point is to hide her identity. I believe the prince tells her to do this. I would recommend the first and second on audio only because they set up the story. The third book is where it turns and I was really surprised by how everything came together. I also like that it doesn’t focus on the shmexy scenes but the story. 😊it’s the only SJM series I actually enjoyed a lot.

I didn't enjoy the lost daughter by Elena Ferrante (book and film). I gave it 2 stars and my brilliant friend 5 stars. Listen for the lie was a pageturner but also meeeh, 3 stars.

You said you love reading reliving books - not quite that but a book I read this year that plays with time is Oona Out of Order and I loved it. It took me completely by surprise and I couldn't put it down. I recommend looking into it.

Lip balm everywhere... half empty moisturizers and other things scattered about.. you're just like my husband and it drives me crazy 🤣
@BookswithEmilyFoxКүн бұрын
No no no they’re not scattered, they’re strategically placed! Purses, coat pockets, drawers 😂 The moisturizer was because I finished another one and was looking for something else to use. I had mainly stopped using it because it was too heavy for summer so it’s technically all good 😅

I loved the Dollmakers and the character arc of the main character is really good! I also appreciated the author committing to an unlikable main character and allowing her to grow over the course of the book.

After the Neapolitan novels, I find Ferrante’s best work to be The Lying Life of Adults. It’s not as great as the neapolitan series (nothing is lol), but it’s really good.

Best book of 2024 was A Clockwork Orange but I don’t think that book will be for you, so I will recommend one my best books of 2023 which was House of Many Gods by Kiana Davenport

This Black Box of Doom was an entertaining read, but it’s not science fiction. I found it fairly funny, but it’s really preachy about social issues. It’s largely about how we can be manipulated by social media.

My favorite books this year have been The Children of Gods and Fighting Men by Shauna Lawless (historical fantasy in Ireland with the most amazing nuanced characters), The Monsters We Defy by Leslye Penelope (standalone historical fantasy with an exciting heist, hilarious banter, and a sweet little romance. Based on a true story!), and The Reformatory by Tananarive Due (a truly heartbreaking masterpiece).

I appreciate your candor of your experience with the colonoscopy, and glad you go through it. Also, my cat Hopper was sitting next to me while I was watching, and while Claudia was chatting/yelling, he went to search for her in my house. My Diva cat died last summer, so we're very happy to have the flashbacks when we see and hear Claudia. I've read one Simone St James (Broken Girls) and really liked it, and have three others on my TBR, including Murder Road. I've heard the same that it's not her best, but I'm still going to read it.

FYI Most humans who live in Northern US or in Canada need to supplement Vitamin D during the winter. There just simply isn't enough sunlight even with daily excursions outside, supplements in dairy, and not overbathing. My doc actually has nearly every one of her patients take OTC vitamin D November through March. And now I really want to read Dollmakers. I'm on audiobooks until the end of the year during giftmaking crunch time... just stocked up on like all of Abby Jimenez's books. That plus 3 other randoms and the BEAST that are my Outlander books should do it... though I'm almost through them all! There's no way I could read them at an estimated 50-60hrs a piece in paper form or e reader form.
