TDS is an irrelevant metric and is considered an "aesthetic" appeal. For those of you who don't know TDS. TDS stands for total dissolved solids and represents the total concentration of dissolved substances in water. TDS is made up of inorganic salts, as well as a small amount of organic matter. Common inorganic salts that can be found in water include calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium, which are all cations, and carbonates, nitrates, bicarbonates, chlorides, and sulfates, which are all anions. Cations are positively charged ions and anions are negatively charged ions. A higher TDS does not necessarily mean its bad, but that it has a high concentration of minerals with small traces of heavy metals if any. In the United States, substances that are health-based have Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs,) and are enforceable by law. However, TDS and other substances that are considered aesthetic are given Secondary Maximum Contaminant Levels (SMCLs,) but are not enforced, because they do not pose as great a health risk as the primary contaminants do. The United States guideline for TDS is also 500 parts per million.

@josealmeida5768 3 жыл бұрын
@@eqlzr2 well, it depends, if you still young and lost your hair, or you already are old like 60+. To be bald doesnt have only a single factor. My situation was, i lived in a small city with great water then i moved to a huge metropolis with a high tds water(due to factories residues in the water if the city). When i arrived i drank water from a machine provided by the city that had very low TDS, but then i was tired to have to collect my drinkable water from outside. I bought a five stage filter and started to drink from the tap water, in less than a month i was losing my hair including beard. So after reading a lot and getting in the conclusion that it maybe was the water i bought a new water filter(this one costs a lot more than the other about 400$) but this machine does remove the metals from the water, making it with a very low TDS similar to the city water machine. After drinking this water for 1 year i got all my hair and beard back. You may give it a try. I today drink low TDS water for almost 2 years. some people say that if you drink low TDS water you will not absorb some essential minerals. For me that didnt happened i and my family are very healthy with many blood checkups already. And i dont have the best eating habits in the world. Obs: eng is not my first language.

I use Zero Water. When the filter is new and up to an average of 16 gallons if I use water pre-filtered through my refrigerator, I get from 0 to 4 ppm tds. If you have ever tasted rain water, Zero Water tastes just like that. I have found that if the TDS is above 20, my brewed black tea gets really dark, instead of golden brown, and the taste is not as good. Just one reason I take a TDS meter with me when I go and buy water from a vending machine.

Hmm, sounds definitely strange. If your distilled water is much above 0 PPM, it's not distilled. Not sure why, but maybe the distiller is not working properly or there is a contamination of some sorts...sorry, difficult to speculate without being there to inspect it.

Typical basic RO systems come with regular Carbon Filter (charcoal) at the last stage to "improve" taste of already purified water. The last stage Carbon filter doesn't do anything else, so I replaced that useless filter with Remineralization cartridge. My purified water comes out at 9-ppm and Remineralization cartridge adds about 40-ppm of different minerals. Here is the detailed video of testing my RO: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4vKYoSlr7WIaJI Keep in mind that RO companies offer cheap $20-$30 Calcium Remineralization cartridges made of Calcite/Corosex. These cartridges will dump a huge amount of Calcium in the first month of use into your drinking water and will be depleted within a short time.

@Your-Self

High TDS water (let's say from your faucet) contains a lot of minerals that are good for you. But it also contains hundreds of small traces of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, poisons, feces, and other dissolved elements you don't want to ingest. So, the best water to drink is that you've cleaned yourself down to almost 0 TDS. And then added minerals to make it healthier. When you buy high TDS water from a store, you don't really know what's inside that bottle. But if you buy very low TDS water from a store, at least you know it has been cleaned up.

Over 600,000 When Seattle Washington had over 1500 covid deaths all of British Columbia only had 117 covid deaths. Now remember Canada closed it's travel to and from China three weeks after the United states did. One more tidbit. Vancouver B C has 80 to 90 direct and indirect flights from China a week. @Your-Self
@Your-Self 5 жыл бұрын
They are both great. Distilled cleans and removes 100% of elements from the water (good and bad), Osmosis about 95%. But we need those elements/minerals for a healthy living. So you need to add the good minerals back to the water. But if you have a very healthy diet with plenty of fresh organic fruits and vegetables on a daily basis you'll get your good minerals that way. Both, Distilled and Osmosis waters are clean but acidic. Acidic water is bad for your teeth enamel (makes it weak). Adding minerals to the water solves that problem and makes it neutral or alkaline and overall better for you. Distilled water requires a lot of energy to create, so you pay for electricity or gas. Osmosis requires new filter changes on a yearly basis, which also cost money. So, whichever system you use is better than drinking water from the faucet full of Chlorine, Lead, Mercury, Fluoride, Arsenic, and many more harmful elements.

Alkaline water is really bad for health. Having strong gastric acid is absolutely essential for absorbing vitamins, minerals and protein. Low gastric acid is associated with depression (lack of protein absorption), histamine intolerance, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), intestinal mould, candida/yeast and parasites. I always drink water atleast 1hour away from food, before and after.

Evian water is absolutely nasty. I actually do drink straight distilled water because out of all the water I've ever had, it tastes the best. Interesting that I also prefer Deja Blue when I can't get my hands on distilled water, and only because of the taste. I had no idea of the TDS reading of any water, but when Deja Blue came in at only 3, I thought, "No wonder I like it. It's closer to pure distilled water than even SmartWater." Quite simply, the more minerals water has, the less I like it. It isn't even a matter of knowing one way or the other. I simply don't like the taste. Spring water at room temperature is so gross it almost takes my breath away. Distilled water is the only water I can chug with gusto. And as for how acidic or alkaline a water is, even looking at the chart presented, it seems more desirable to drink water in greater relation to milk, bread, coffee, orange juice, soda, and lemons than seawater, baking soda, milk of magnesia, and ammonia. Even with distilled water's acidity of 6, it's still not as acidic as your own stomach acid, so even distilled water will bring down the overall PH of your stomach, though less than alkaline water. You just don't want to drink extremes of either, like bleach and battery acid. Well, like I said, distilled water actually tastes the most neutral to me. It goes down smooth. I have to force myself to drink water with any minerals in it simply because it actually tastes contaminated. But since all the stuff in water can be found in food, I have no fears about drinking distilled water.
@Your-Self
@Your-Self 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, we get majority of minerals from food, and if you have a healthy diet with a lot of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, you have nothing to worry about. However, most of the people in modern society are always in a hurry and don't have time to consume nutritious foods. They settle for fast and convenient burger and fries or instant meals from the frozen food section in a supermarket which has NO nutritional value. So, in this case getting minerals from water becomes an essential part of life. Regarding the taste, I've learned that everyone has a different one, so debating on what is tasty or nasty is useless. I enjoy my filtered water with minerals between 25-55 TDS. And I'm glad you like your distilled water. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I know you said you like the taste of your pure distilled water. I do too! If you feel like Changing it up a little, i would recommend trying to add a granular carbon, or carbon block filter after your distillation for a better taste. It most likely would increase TDS, but not in the negative sense.

I prefer the taste of distilled water too and found myself drinking it more often because I'm sensitive to water and it can upset my stomach easily depending on what's it. But then I started reading conflicting reports on distilled water. Some insist that it because it is so clean that it will leach minerals from your body, making your deficient over time with too much consumption. It's hard to find any concrete evidence either way so I stopped drinking it.
@EdderzX1

@@kfox5301 Don’t worry there is no evidence of this anywhere. It is the only way to get pure water imo. Look what is left in the distiller after, this is impossible to be healthy for the body or brain. There are no known scientific data which clearly demonstrate that the consumption of low TDS water by humans will or will not lead to harmful effects on the human body. However, a number of field experiences can be cited which support the premise that the consumption of such water by humans does not cause such harmful effects. There are no known documented experiences which show that consuming low TDS water will create any long-term health effects. The US Navy has used distilled sea water for human consumption for approximately 40 years.3 TDS levels below 3 mg/L have been reported and consumption of this water for months at a time is common on submarines. No health problems have been reported by the Navy. The US Army uses reverse osmosis units to provide drinking water for soldiers in the field. The USEPA conducted a project in San Ysidro, New Mexico in which the TDS was dropped from 800 mg/L to a range of 40 to 70 mg/L. No health effects were observed. NASA has reported no ill effects from the consumption of approximately 0.05 mg/L TDS water on board space craft. Possibly the largest field study of human consumption of low TDS water is within the United States where municipal systems are delivering water in this category. Millions of people currently consume such water, and this practice has gone on for decades. Exact data are difficult to obtain due to seasonal changes, use of blended water from multiple sources, and changes of sources. In addition, thousands of private wells, as well as numerous small municipal systems in the US produce low TDS water. No known health effects or problems have been reported as a result of this widespread practice. Thousands of TDS reduction devices have been sold residentially in the United States for decades. No reports of mineral depletion or health effects are known as a result of the consumption of this water. In a field test in Boulder, Colorado with about 50 families, an experimental, zero discharge water system provided drinking water containing about. 0.05 ppm TDS. No ill health effects were caused as a result of drinking this water. In conclusion, the field experiences cited suggest that there are no long-term ill health effects, specifically the mineral leaching from human tissue, due to the consumption of low TDS water.

I like your PPM measuring approach as well. great work!

Your water is very clean at 16 TDS, however it's a bit acidic which is bad for your teeth enamel. Try adding a pinch of Baking Soda to a pitcher of drinking water and mix it well. That should raise the pH to a neutral level around 7. You may need to experiment a little with concentration to get it right. At least you don't have to filter the water, it's already clean!

Typically RO companies offer their cheap Remineralization filters made of Calcite/Corosex which release too many minerals at once into RO "aggressive" water and may be too much to handle for your kidneys. Your analysis on the Ph factor is great information, however, you make it sound like water containing high levels of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) is a bad thing! According to the recent series airing on Netflix, titled Down to Earth with Zac Efron and Darin Olien, episode 2, the higher the TDS, the better! According to America's first water sommelier, Martin Riese, who compared various bottled water containing high levels of TDS ranging from 1300 to 7400. The water from Slovenia called ROI and having the highest TDS rating of 7,400 is considered medicinal! Purified and distilled water is a no-go and glass over plastic is preferred. Check out the show; it's mind blowing the amount of information it gives on water!!!
@Your-Self
@Your-Self 4 жыл бұрын
While high TDS levels of the healthy mineral are good for you, you don't really know what exactly inside that water. But if you do an expensive laboratory test, you will find many chemicals in that water that considered to be "safe" to drink. I personally don't want any amounts of any chemicals in my water, so I recommend to filter your own water through Distillation or Reverse Osmosis, and adding minerals afterward into the clean water. If you don't want to do your own filtration, the next best thing is to buy filtered (low TDS) water, that way you know that it was cleaned. You can always add minerals later into the water, or through food and supplements.
