How important is maintaining acidity in your body? Dr. Berg explains what PH Level means in your body and how to keep it at a healthy level.
You may not know this but, there are various mechanisms in your body that work together to maintain a proper pH balance throughout your body. The acidity or alkalinity of a substance is measured using pH. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14, with 0 being the most acidic, 14 being the most alkaline, and 7 being neutral.

Dr Berg, THANK YOU very much for this video! I was given misinformation from a friend about drinking alkaline water and had almost ALL of the issues you mentioned in the above video and couldn't figure out what was going on until I watched this video. I immediately went and bought the carbonated water that you recommend in the video above and after about 10 mins felt better and extremely peaceful! I also drank some vinegar water and have had some coffee this morning, all of which are more acidic and continue to feel better. Thank you for always being selfless in providing us the truth with the science behind it and healthy natural solutions to fix the problem without ever expecting anything in return! You are seriously the best!

I love dr Berg, but hyperventilation occurs when there's too much acid detected in the body: the body adapts by increasing breathing rate to blow off carbon dioxide, which is acidic. When I worked in the ICU, we'd turn up ventilator respiratory rate to increase their pH, or to become less acidic.
@chiquitahodges
@chiquitahodges 2 жыл бұрын
An increased breathing rate doesn't mean you're producing more CO2. It just means you're losing CO2 at a faster rate. And since CO2 levels regulate blood pH levels, low CO2 levels cause the blood pH to increase (more alkaline) and high CO2 levels cause the blood pH to decrease (more acidic). By definition, when a person hyperventilates, it decreases the CO2 in their blood because they're breathing out CO2 at a faster than normal rate.

So many doctors are so ignorant and put people on proton pumps that end up just making the situation worse. The alkaline/acid information is amazing; it is the root problem to many common conditions that people end up again taking drugs for, that do nothing but treat the symptoms instead of curing the root of the problem. I am wondering if you could have written any books because I would sure love to have this information at my fingertips. You are awesome Dr. Berg!!! Please write a book?

Honestly people, this guy knows his shit and all he is trying to do is clarify that getting your body healthy is not about taking alkalizing or acidifying products but about finding a balance, because as he mentioned every organ works at different pH levels and the overall environment of the body can be affected by consuming the wrong things. Basically don't go drinking baking soda just for the hell of it. Find out what's wrong with your body first before taking actions that can be counterproductive. Extremes are always bad!!!

Paula Rejas However, when you understand how the stomach wall makes hydrochloric acid, your concerns will disappear. A pathologist friend of mine gave me the following explanation. There is no hydrochloric acid pouch in our body. If there were, it would burn a hole in our body. The cells in our stomach wall must produce it on an instantly-as-needed basis. The ingredients in the stomach cell that make hydrochloric acid (HCl) are carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and sodium chloride (NaCl) or potassium chloride (KCl). NaCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + NaHCO3, or KCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + KHCO3 As we can see, the byproduct of making hydrochloric acid is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) or potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3), which goes into blood stream. These bicarbonates are the alkaline buffers that neutralize excess acids in the blood; they dissolve solid acid wastes into liquid form. As they neutralize the solid acidic wastes, extra carbon dioxide is released, which is discharged through the lungs. As our body gets old, these alkaline buffers get low; this phenomenon is called acidosis. This is a natural occurrence as our body accumulates more acidic waste products. There is, therefore, a relationship between the aging process and the accumulation of acids. By looking at the pH value of the stomach alone, it seems that alkaline water never reaches the body. But when you look at the whole body, there is a net gain of alkalinity as we drink alkaline water. - See more at: www.healthalkaline.com/does-stomach-acid-neutralize-alkaline-water/#sthash.jQgQwnr8.dpuf

LaughsatVideos I have no doubt, you cured your body by alkalizing it, but there is an important point that I am trying to communicate - only certain parts of the body are alkaline, and others are acid - for example the stomach is supposed to be 1-3, extremely acid - we're not supposed to alkalize it...also look up alkalosis, a condition whereby the many disease state exist, just as many as acidosis. High levels of cortisol stress will cause the urine pH to be acid, but the blood to be overly alkaline and then the blood dumps all its calcium into the tissues.

Eric Berg the stomach is acid and alkaline, acid is to break up food and Alkaline is to digest it you cant just have acid you your stomack it will eat its self, the lining of the stomach is alkalizing and so is the pancreas and the gall bladder and as the food goes past them right at the end of your stomach just before intestines they secrete bicarb into that food that was broken up.. if you don't have alkaline in the lining of the stomach them that's where the problems begin then its dumped into the intestines which are suppost to be alkaline and if its still acid it will burn and not absorb nutrients... I know this no hopefuly you know this..

Well? As the video said. Some organ contents are whilst other organ contents are not. So mentally do you feel you are both? How you feel is not really my business entirely and some people can not cope with some views I may believe in for my self about what is me and what is not. But one question to evaulate you a little more, if I may (You may decline to answer). If you felt you were a motor bike (Or your favorite car) would you feel you included the fuel? A motor bike is a little easier to visualize as you can see the fuel tank. So would you be the bike and there fore the tank as well. Or would you be the bike plus the tank plus the contents of the tank? IE Are you the sort that considers the body fat as part of the self or is the fat just for lubrication and use as fuel? As internally you have both acid and alkaline and so the question is weather you are feeling yourself or the contents of organs? Are you feeling your stomach or the whole you? Are you feeling your colon or intestinal organs? If you feel your head then feet do they feel as they should. IE about neutral or 7.4ph?

Just a correction at 1:20 of the video, one degree PH change causes 10 times change in magnitude not 100 time. the 100 time change is for the earthquake scale!
@DavidHust

The earthquake scale, a.k.a the Richter Scale, is x10, not x100. Both the pH scale and the Richter scale are logarithmic.

@LaEstrella2006 6 жыл бұрын
It’s logarithmic so a pH of 6 is ten times more acidic than distilled water with a pH of 7 then a pH of 5 is 100 times, 4 is 1000 times etc.

I have GERD. Doctors put me on 20mg/day of Omeprazole. I don't want to take these pills forever.. What can I do to help myself. I want to have a normal stomach again. I don't want GERD. Acid reflux is ruining my life. I eat a variety of foods, junk food and healthy food. My heart also beats hard at times especially when I get up fast from a relaxed state like if I'm sitting down, or when I get out of my car, I get p big like drop in my chest and feel my heart beat hard.

I ended up in the ER about a year ago with GERD,and then a leaky GUT a few months later, the key to get rid of GERD is to remove the food thats causing the GERD, don't take Omeprazole or an antacid, your stomach should be the most acidic part of the body, for me it was spicy food, had to remove spicy food from my diet, sometimes its dairy, tomato sauce products, spicy foods and other foods, hope this helps

Ive suffered over acidity for 30 years. My life was plagued with an over active proton pump & excessive stomach acid. Reflux, heartburn & GORD-a-go go I CURED this by taking 50ml of lemon juice in a pint of warm water every morning Cured I dont know the science. Can someone explain?
@woodman57
@woodman57 7 жыл бұрын
Hi David, If you still have to do the lemon routine, then that is not a cure, it is a treatment. There is a doctor Carey Reams who claimed that the lemon is a unique food. Having tested thousands and thousands of foods, he found that the lemon is the only food that is anionic vs cationic. Many will say that it is the acidic nature of the lemon that helps to increase the acidity of the stomach and so helps with acid reflux, but if that were the case, why don't oranges, or limes, or grapefruit do the same things that the lemon does? They don't. The science behind it can't be explained in the comment section of KZbin, but what might be important to know is that even though the lemon juice has seemed to help, there is something else that your body is missing. If that were not the case then the lemon would never have been required.

Hveragerthi "Not necessarily. A major reason for the body's inability to form stomach acid in the first place is a lack of stomach acidity" That's like saying that the cause of your failing vision is that your eyes aren't working too good. If your eyes were working the way they should, your vision wouldn't be failing. A lack of stomach acid could cause thousands of conditions and diseases, one of which would be an even weaker digestive system, and less stomach acid, but that's not the cause of the initial lack of stomach acid.

So David, did you find your answer? Are you still doing the lemon? Are you cured?
@davidshillito
@davidshillito 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike I am still doing the Lemon Juice, and I do consider it a successful treatment Obestity can be 'cured' by changing habits. Agree? However, if those habits cease & behaviour reverts, obesity returns. Sooooo - the question of treatment vs. cure is moot unless a cure HAS to be a one-and-done treatment to be labeled such (rare, non?) Discipline no more cures obesity than eye glasses 'cure' poor eyesight My conclusion SO FAR is that upping the acidity of my stomach forces my natural homeostatic system to up its game - like waking up sleeping guards to do their darn job. What is a Flu jab? ... A tiny dose of flu which 'wakes the guards up' No, not technical, but I've yet to hear a consice - non contradictory biology-based answer as to why taking 50mg of lemon juice every morning has effectively cured my 30 year old reflux / hyperacidity problem
@woodman57
@woodman57 7 жыл бұрын
David, "Obestity can be 'cured' by changing habits. Agree?" No, I don't agree, and I don't think you do either because you say "Discipline no more cures obesity than eye glasses 'cure' poor eyesight" which I do agree with. It could be looked at this way...many people claim that they can "cure" type 2 diabetes within a very short time, just by changing the diet. But in a real sense, it is not the food that causes the fluctuation in blood sugar and the symptoms that go along with that. Instead, It is a malfunctioning pancreas. If the pancreas was functioning perfectly, it would control the blood sugar no matter what the person eats. So changing the diet is just taking away the triggers that cause wild fluctuations in blood sugar, it is not curing the root cause. This is similar to what happens with acid reflux. If your organs were functioning perfectly there would be no need to do the lemon juice routine because your body would be manufacturing all of the enzymes and acids needed to keep your digestion running perfectly without it. David....."My conclusion SO FAR is that upping the acidity of my stomach forces my natural homeostatic system to up its game - like waking up sleeping guards to do their darn job. What is a Flu jab? ... A tiny dose of flu which 'wakes the guards up' I can see how that might seem like what is happening, but here is another point of view....The lemon is a unique food. It is a substance that is very similar to what your body needs to manufacture to keep a strong digestive juice, so it is easy for your body to convert the lemon into the substances that are replacing what a body would replace when it is functioning perfectly. But this is not a "cure". The lemon should be used to keep a strong digestive juice while you are replacing the missing nutrients that will allow your body to function without these "treatments" If you want to be truly "cured", you have to replace what's needed so that your body functions perfectly without the lemon juice. Agree? The next step then is what is missing?

It is impossible to become too much alkaline through any diet, just because our metabolism generates acid by itself and this acidity has to be counteracted by eating as much alkaline foods as we can . So, there isn´t any such thing as too much alkaline .Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables that´s the answer

You can't change the pH in yor body, the stomach is naturally acidic, about 3,5. The blood is about 7,35 , if you consume so much alkaline or acidic things that the pH in your blood changes more than about +- 0,5 you will DIE. They say cancer cells die in an alkaline enviroment, but the truth is that ALL cells die when pH is chged to much... It's all pseudoscience, and it only works because the foods that you eat are actually good for you in other ways.
@this_too_shaII_pass

***** Yes, but not eating regular food, no regular food is so alkaline or acidic that you it can change your bodys pH level just by eating normal amounts of it. The pH levels aren't controlled by a specific organ, it's just that the different fluids in your body works as buffers, they can both take up and give away Hydrogen ions, thus preventing changes in the concentration of hydrogen ions, and the concentration of hydrogen ions is what the pH scale is.

I wouldn't recommend it, it's not bad for you, but it's not good for you either. Although if you want even more information then you could ask a doctor or someone else that might know a lot about this stuff.

On the topic of myths, a rule might be "propagate none." The pH scale is logarithmic. A change of one unit pH indicates a change in hydrogen ions of a power of 10, not 100 as you state at least twice. Do no harm, doctor.

yeh thats what i thought :/ Ur stomach is acidic as hell so if ur diet has too much alkalinity then it probs will shift ur ph of ur stomach acids and make it less acidic and you wont be able to break down food properly right? healthy balance is key. and what is the main importance is vitamins and minerals.

@Nnay3000

Blu, I'm not sure if you'll read this but hey, let's try : It's the amino acids (proteins) contained in the meat that are acidic. Your stomach secrete hydrochloric acid and pepsin to break down proteins. Hydrocloric acid is hydrogen and chlorine released from your stomac tissues. No chlorine is present in the meat and hydrogen is everywhere, so your argument doesn't old. Also, eating to much amino acids needs to be compensated to hold the right blood pH. If the alcaline minerals are not present in the diet, the body pulls alcaline minerals, like calcium and magnesium, from the tissues, mainly veins and muscles. So too much proteins leads to mineral deficiencies in the body if they are not balanced in the diet. (Anyway, not watched the video yet, I may complete my understanding after this)

pH is a LOGARITHMIC scale and each element is not 100 times stronger but 10 times! pH 7 = 1, 6=10, 5=100, 4=1000, 3=10000, 2=100000, 1=1000000 times stonger. Do the math! If you can't get even basic facts like this right I'm afraid it doesn't say much for your credibility.

You are right, the PH-value ist defined as the negative decadic logarithm of the protonconcentration in the fluid. Every well educated person should know, that log10=1, log100=2. His mistake pulls the whole video into a suspicious field, very disapointing.
