@1:45 how far would you say you were standing from the subject? I have the 35mm looking into the 14mm but it's not available yet. The 21mm could work out for me. I'll be using them on my red komodo X .

thanks for the video! The red shift from the ND Filters is infrared pollution -> some sensors are more sensitive to IR than others. But if you want to avoid this you need to use IRND filters which block IR pollution. You can also use a IR blocking filter also commonly referred to as hot mirror that only blocks IR. The high end way of going about it would be to use FSNDs (Full Spectrum Neutral Density) that not only reach out to the infrared end of the spectrum but also cover UV. Arri and Schneider offer FSND Filters which are often used in high end workflows.

Nice overview. I use the DZO Pictor S35 three lens kit with my Komodo and they look amazing. Pictor lenses do bring a certain character. I also use Vespid Cyber on DJI RS4 which are less character but very solid and the autofocus works great with no lens calibration necessary. Metabones makes a PL > RF Speedbooster lens adaptor which is great when using full frame PL lenses on Komodo if you don’t want the S35 crop

Thanks for sharing! I’ve heard about that adaptor but haven’t yet tested it. Putting it on the list :)

I got stuck using that Canon ND adapter on a feature film as it was the only adapter we had and the location was isolated with no rental houses near. The ND quality is terrible. Very bad color cast. The Arles look pretty nice. I really love the FD's, but it can be hard to focus with them, would love to use the K35's. I just got a Dulens set over the Arles, much smaller and more vintagey, but we'll see.

Thanks for sharing! Yes the ND quality of the Canon adapter is very bad sadly, sorry that you had that experience on a project. The Dulens sounds exactly what I’m looking for - will take a closer look. :)

Thank you for clarifying that the lens is full frame and the Komodo-X is Super 35. I'm looking at getting the Arles 25mm to get me close to a 35mm equivalent field of view. Thank you for sharing such awesome videos!

@@MattBendo-CSC-AIC The Komodo-X. It's a 17x9 Super 35. I believe the 25mm Arles Full Frame lens will lead to a 35.4mm focal length, assuming a 1.42x crop.

@@12yfilms It seems there might be a bit of confusion about how lenses function across different sensor sizes and what the “image circle” really means. If you’re looking to achieve a 35mm field of view on your Komodo-X, which has a Super 35 sensor, you’ll need to use a 35mm lens directly. The term “crop factor” is used to help compare the field of view between different sensor sizes, but it doesn’t change the actual focal length of a lens. For instance, a 25mm lens remains a 25mm lens regardless of the sensor it’s used on. However, a 35mm lens on a full frame provides a similar field of view as a 25mm lens on a Super 35 sensor. Also, it’s important to note that the image circle of a lens (the area of the image that a lens can project onto a sensor) is related to the lens design and does not affect the focal length. A full frame lens like the Arles 25mm covers a larger image circle suitable for full frame sensors but using it on a Super 35 sensor, which requires a smaller image circle, doesn’t change its focal length of 25mm. The focal length and image circle are independent properties; the focal length determines the angle of view (along with the sensor size), and the image circle just needs to be large enough to cover the sensor without vignetting. If your goal is a true 35mm perspective on your camera, opt for a 35mm lens to get the expected field of view without any conversions or misunderstandings about how the lens behaves on different formats. A 56mm FF lens on a FF sensor will still have the same FOV as a 35mm lens on a S35 sensor. Essentially 12yfilms, what I'm saying is, if you have a S35 35mm lens and a FF 35mm lens, they will both have the same FOV if you put them on a S35 sensor camera. A 35mm is a 35mm... the only difference is that the FF 35mm version will have a larger image circle and will cover the size of a FF sensor, where as the S35mm version of the 35mm lens on a FF sensor will vignette a drastic amount and not cover the entire sensor. If you are used to S35 camera sensor sizes and you want a 35mm FOV, then you will want to go with the 35mm Arles Prime.

@@MattBendo-CSC-AIC My mind has been blown! I'm very interested in this. I was under the impression that all my Super 35s would reduce the field of view- of my full-frame lenses. I've been using Red's crop-factor tool (on their website) for years to calculate what I'd be seeing with a new lens. Am I getting this confused because of resolution and sensor size? I'm realizing that I've never compared my full frame Raptor-x and Super 35 Komodo-x with the same lens before. I figured they would look different. I do remember accidentally using a Super 35 on the Raptor-X and having to crop down to get rid of the len's vignette. Hmmm, I need to look further into my camera/lens combos and thoroughly test them. I have plenty of full-frame lenses that I've never used on the Komodo-X because of the field of view, but I would love to use them in the future. I have some testing to do this weekend. Thank you again for sharing!

Hey guys! I feel that the misunderstanding stems from how focal length translates to field of view on different sensor sizes. The image circle does indeed need to cover the sensor without vignetting, but the focal length's relationship to the sensor size is what determines the final image's field of view. So, yes, a 35mm lens will still be a 35mm lens on a crop sensor, but the FOV will appear more "zoomed in" than it would on a full-frame sensor due to that crop factor. So calculating 35mm x 1.42 is a correct way to gage how that image will look on the Komodo-X.
