Currently setting up a new studio room!! Don't mind the constant changes in the talking head haha! QUESTION OF THE DAY: Why do cine lenses use T stops instead of F stops?
@giovcarrillo42222 жыл бұрын
T stops refers to the amount of light it lets in while F stops refers to the size of the opening which affects bokeh. It's easier for cinematographer to light a scene because they know how much light is hitting the sensor.
@leftnrightrecords2 жыл бұрын
Transmission stops or T-stop lenses measure the exact amount of light that passes through the lens, making it an ideal choice to match exposure accurately. F-stop only measures how wide a lens will open.

t stop is for amount of light whereas f stop is for opening of lens

I keep going back and forth between wanting to pickup cinema glass or just stick to what I've got for now. The overall look from those clips is very nice. Not too clinical, but can still tell it was shot with a beast of a camera!

The A7IV delivers!! Cinema glass is nice but as a small production team without a first AC, it's kinda tough. It's refreshing to shoot with but I always end up using my AF lenses. It's the reason Sony wins for smaller crews.

Looks really good to me! Quick question... why do cinema lenses write the aperture with a T instead of an F like photo lenses?
@VictorLaforteza2 жыл бұрын
Ha!! I was gonna include a section of this one in the video but I felt like I was gonna mess it up. Here goes nothing.. T-Stops are actually the measurement of the light intensity going through the lens to the camera sensor. Let's just say a cinema lens set all have a T1.5 and all of them are pushing through 95% intensity to the camera. This is super important to film sets as the exposure needs to be consistent throughout each focal length. On the other hand, f-stops are generally the size of the iris of a lens (aperture) but the problem is that, the light that goes through each prime lens with the same f stop value isn't consistent as they are built differently. So the exposure will have inconsistencies if you use photo lenses! There's an in-depth explanation by Gerald Undone, that video will probably explain it better.
@ejschiro2 жыл бұрын
@@VictorLaforteza Dude! thank you for the thoughtful response.. makes complete sense. An F1.8 on a 50mm will be a different physical diameter than an F1.8 on a 135mm. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Keep up the good work.

I know this video is somewhat dated but I thought I might as well ask this here, I'm considering buying these lenses both the 35mm and 50mm I really like the image but most of my shooting is client work/run and gun sort of stuff. I'm also getting a sigma art 24-70mm lens but if I get a follow focus for this would using these lenses be worth it?
