Awesome, good lighting makes all the difference for indoor video. I’ve been thinking of recording some training videos for my work as well. Trying to get something more polished than just regular Skype sessions or power point slides.

Thanks for this. There is also the Yongnuo YN 600, which might be a better bet for getting rid of harsh shadows (if there is no other, ambient light, and you are relying solely on a YN300 AIR, or even two of them). By the way, I would suggest turning Autofocus off because the fence behind you is in focus, but you are not.
@pruett896 жыл бұрын
I shot this on an old Nikon with all Manual focus...and it wasn't perfect for sure. I appreciate the feedback. New Canon M50 with Dual Pixel AF has helped out alot when shooting by my self.
@drutgat26 жыл бұрын
@@pruett89 Thanks, Michael. I bought the Canon M50 a few months ago, despite its (by my count) 14 limitations. I think that it is great value for what it is, and the price is even lower now. Another thing that I have noticed about the three YN300 Airs that I have is that they need some diffusion (like the umbrellas you are using), if I want to avoid squinting (because they are so bright), and also if one wants to avoid the lights casting really pronounced shadows. QUESTION - when you were filming in the parking garage in this video, were you using the umbrelllas to bounce the YN300 Airs?

Thank you Michael! Great video. Question, I’m new to broadcasting on KZbin. Would these lights work in a home setting as well? I know the lighting is bright. I don’t need it to be distracting and take away from my message. Keep posting!
@pruett895 жыл бұрын
100%. Honestly they work best inside, especially if you get the wall charger. Watch my other video about the YN600 Air too. That one is awesome for a Key Light and these can then be used for background lighting. But they won't be distracting at all especially if you soften them up with umbrellas or diffusion material to get rid of any hard shadows on your face and background.
@mubashshira5 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t find any other video where they use these led lights with an umbrella. Can you please explain why you choose these led panels instead of other bulbs for the umbrella light? Can you tell if YN300 is better or YN 300 iii? Are these better than the Neewer led panels? I am so confused. I want 5500k lighting setup for my makeup videos.
@pruett895 жыл бұрын
Glad I put the umbrellas in the video! My view point is that LED is better all around. Less heat, usually lower energy usage, more flexibility for dimming, longer life span and more pure light color. As far as the umbrella with LED/Bulbs it shouldn’t matter to much, the umbrella will soften any light source but I wouldn’t use it with a light that produces a lot of heat for safety reasons. The YN300 mk 3 does not have a built in milk diffuser, has more LEDs and has the barn door attachment that gives you options for shaping the light a little. The YN300 Air that I reviewed is more simple to just use right away and provides softer light with out any attachments. The mk3 version will be brighter but more harsh on camera. Both can be used with the umbrella to soften it up and give a more natural look. After using the Air I’d get the mk3 for the brightness and remote. For the color temp all you need to do is buy the 5500k or 5600k version and your good to go! I hope this helped
@PlanetImo6 жыл бұрын
I just got one of these. It didn't occur to me to get an umbrella though.
@pruett896 жыл бұрын
More diffusion is always good to have, especially if you are close to the light. The umbrella is also easy to store

Cool, thanks! I don't know what I'm doing with mine at all yet - I need to figure out how to use it properly. Actually, that's why I looked up this video. I need to do something differently, that's for sure, 'cause I'm getting rectangular lights reflected in my glasses!

Don't know whether to get this or Tristar 2 which is $59 at BH. TriStar runs on 4x AAs. Think I'll base my decision on total weight of each unit. Don't really care for bi-color as you can adjust temp during post.
@pruett896 жыл бұрын
If you don’t need bi-color then you’ll generally get more light output for the same cost/weight. I’d say getting a light that uses rechargeable batteries of some kind or another is the way to go. I really like the Sony NPF since it’s so universal.

Good info! Thank you. Could you share what are the 2 models of the stands for YN300?
I am beginner. What is the diffrence between a ringlight and a video light? Which one should i buy?
@pruett895 жыл бұрын
A ring light is going to be a circular light with several LED's in it. It is typically used very close to your face and will provide a fairly harsh light on your face. It provides a very specific look. It will also create a bright spot in your eyes that can be seen on camera. I'd personally suguest this light for the fact it will be more versatile in the long run. It will also provide a more natural look vs a ring light. More inline with what you'd see in TV or typical set. Thanks for watching and for the question
