This is the best option (IMO) for a budget NV device that I've tested so far. Easily adapted to head mounted use for maneuvering in total darkness hands free. @optyverg I think the units IR would flare out an IR laser. It's a decent "fun" NV device but it's not a tactical piece of kit.

This was a good review mate. I’m thinking about this for a SHTF scenario where I would just be using it for solely traversing at night, when it’s safer, not for combat use. Would this be a viable option for just being in the move walking at night for a few hours at a time? Thankyou mate much love from Australia!

I've got them in my bags just for the reason you're thinking. They are magnified so running/ fighting would be a no-go but I've managed a good bit of trekking with them checking landscape and terrain. The NightOwl gen1 has a 2x magnification so it's not too hard at all to move. I saw them on sale at Ebay and they're cheap enough to have a couple extras. Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes. I'd take the ATN or AGM budget thermal over this. The AGM asp micro 160 isn't that much more but offers a lot more performance. This is great for digital nightvision but it's not on the same level as thermal.

The firmware update makes a huge difference. I honestly considered it unusable until the update.

@656ui8 the ones shipping now might. I'd say there's a bunch out there that don't have it. It's pretty easy to do and without it the device isn't much.

@573reviews thank you it's just I don't own a laptop I'd have to borrow one of My mate but I've figured they do ship with the latest update depending on when it was manufactured
