Ive had the same 2 jl 10s and eclipse amp I bought 10 years ago used. Still sound like the day I got them. Gone through a ton of other stuff that sounded better or louder but those jls are just reliable. I also have a ton of love for the type r alpines. Hell I have a hifonics amp from high school lol..... Dude. I've had my type r 15 for 6-8 years and it still slaps. Built a 3 cubic vented for it years back but didnt have room in the last car. Wrangler does and I've been running a basic sealed/poly filled box for 2 years. Last night I decided to switch back to vented out of boredom. Sure a little quality loss but the spl increase 💪🏻. Think it was only like 250-280 back then.

I have a type r 12 that I still pound from time to time. When it came out it was a very good sub. It is just a little behind times now with the technology. If I was buying today I would spend $200 on a different sub. Great video keep it up.

If you consider this a "budget sub" then what type S/G/E subs should be called? This is almost top of the line alpine sub. Speaking about "entry level" i imagine 150to350RMS sub no more than $100.

I've had my Alpine type S 12's for 8 years and they still slam with no problems. I've got 2 on a taramps smart 3 bass amplifier wired to 1 ohm. Clamping 1800 watts to them 😂

Crazy how most people are clipping their subs for output, makes it sound boomy and inaccurate. Set gains correctly and you will be more pleased with type r. Best point for quality/quantity with type r is setting gain just slightly above the point where it starts clipping.

I will always love my audiobahn flame series 12. I got it in my house subwoofer enclosure now getting a lil 125 watts and bangin lol. Always used audiobahn in early 2000s. I know it's trash now that I look back, but I just felt the designs were ahead of their time and cool I guess.

My type S are 3yrs old and sound amazing still. I recently bought some old school fosgate hx2's and took the alpines out. lol big mistake. Fosgates bottom out at high volume while the Alpines stay strong. put back my alpines and selling the fosgates.

Fosgates were in wrong box they smoke s2 garbage. Ever hear of a subsonic filter? And box type and size directly affects come travel. P.s. didn't you say used hk2? Ever thing fella before you streched the hell outta them? Not saying your lying just that you didn't give the Rockford a fair chance. I'll bet I can make 1 hx2 as loud as both those pioneer wanna be type s. Read up in the comments and you will see why I despise Alpine. Plus it hasn't been Alpine the real Alpine since the early to mid 90s

I have an r12 like this I've had for about 6 years now and I got mine used and abused and had it on a monoblock Memphis 500W amp... I recently had my truck impounded and lost the whole system but luckily I had taken this woofer out to build a new box, so lost everything but still have thos woofer and can't wait to get it in another vehicle.... Ii had to sit 3 months of tickets out and when got out, the tow company had already sold my truck. Sounds illegal to me but what can I do?

Type Rs (even the component drivers) are the best, cleanest bang for your buck. I’ve been using them for 10 years. Just feed em enough good power. I’m even actually using a TR 12 in the home enclosure I fabricated feeding that driver alone with about 1.2 KW. It’s clear and violent. 10 years old. Beast. Only thing I can compare it to is the mid 90s XTR and HCCA series.

That is nothing. I have my first ever sub, a Rockford HE 12" from 1999. Been in 4 different cars and several enclosures over the years. It still works just fine. Thumbs up if you remember the alpine type E and aluminum cone type S from back in the day...

only way you can put it at 2ohms is to buy the same sub, wire both of them in series (4ohms) then wire them together in the terminal. wiring 2 4ohms subwoofer will drop down to 2ohms. if you want to run 1 sub you will have to sell the sub you own right now and buy a dual 4ohm

I had 2 12s type R in my Honda for years.. Never had any issues they pounded hella hard for 750w.. Had it connected to a Fosgate power Amp loved them till i sold the car lol 😏

Honestly, I've owned two of this same exact subwoofer since 2012 and I've been through 2 amps. These subs keep kicking and I've never have a problem with them. Been through 4 vehicles in those 8 years. I've been thinking about upgrading to the newer model Type-R's but these two I have are so good, I don't see a reason to actually upgrade. The only thing I regret was that they're 2 Ohm DVC instead of 1 Ohm, and I'm only able to wire them to 2 Ohm, which I wish I could get it down to 1 Ohm for the power of my 1800 Watt mono block amp which turns out to be only 1100 Watts at the 2 Ohm. Lesson learned for next setup, but I'm still loving these.

Lol not even a close comparison. The xfl are 10 times better but for crisp accurate bass alpine is very good. I'm actually running 2 Alpine type s 12's in a 3.5cf ported enclosure tuned to 35hz on a taramps smart 3 bass amplifier. It bangs but the xfl will get much louder and flex more shyt.

I never considered the Type R to be a "budget" sub. Two tens without a box will set you back about $320. Amp to run those reliably without clipping or distortion, another $250 easy. That's about $550 to $600 for 2x10 setup; but I agree, they bang. Nobody could believe that my 2x10's were 10's, swore they were 12's or larger.

@@anthonyc9261 I went with 1.2 cf per sub but always thought could’ve went bigger. I ended up with 3 Type R’s and 2 xtr1500dz strapped to a 3 ohm load and using an audiocontrol overdrive. Sure, a xtr2500 would be a little better for 2 Type R’s. The only way I’ve been able to keep the subs alive is by mounting them inverted so I can smell them when they get heated up and just turn down the volume till they cool down

Type r is an ok entry level sub. 2.5" voice coil and low RMS. It's more of a sound quality sub not a ground pounder. Any sub will last for years and years on clean unclipped power. I wouldn't run it but that's just my subjective opinion. Plenty of better subs on the market. Higher RMS with 3" voice coils and better Sound IMO as well. I'm glad it's worked well for you. That's a testament of your system being hooked up pretty well and you not clipping the subwoofer or amplifier much. Good shit. Congrats on running it how it should be ran... Between 300-750 watts RMS of clean power. 👍🏾

Higher RMS subs than about the 200 to 300 watt range are generally dual coils 2x4 ohm or 2x2 ohm its rare to find a higher wattage sub in single coil variety than about 200 to 300 watts range. most are 4 ohm. but thats fine if you give them clean power and they dont cheap out on quality. decent size voice coil and coil wire gauge. decent magnet and cooling.

It's the R. The S is just as good, though. Just make sure you overpower it and turn the volume lower. Under power and you'll end up frying the coils. Get a name brand amp that produces *true* RMS power near what the sub consumes max, and a cap to buffer it a little. Easier to fry under driving than over driving.

The Type R has been proven to be a very quality built sub. However, the K9 can handle more power and is cheaper. Just make sure it’s the K9V2 with the push terminals instead of the V1 with the wire leads

It was a really nice sub. I had the 1042d for several years. I regret that I never metered it or tried out other boxes. I built a box to Alpine specs and it slammed hard for a 10". You can see some roof flex in one of my videos. What I didn't like too much was the sound quality. The nice peak in some frequencies was paid with a lack of upper bass notes and it didn't play too deep.

migas custom sounds ive had two separate type r’s in the last 10 years and both took 800w rms each with no issue, they are both in storage now and work flawlessly to this day. My current JL 10W7 has only seen 750w rms and has been re coned once already and its only two year’s old.

Dude no way I tore two type r 15s in half yet 3 10inch Rockville k6 take the power and then some hooked up to same amp didn't touch settings and added another dual 4 ohm woofer Wich Drew more from my last real soundstream 3400. That's a SQ type sub that should be in a sealed box preferably a pair of them or more. Send it 500-1000 rms clean power crossed over to the correct HZ the specs call for. Do this and it won't sound like its being electrocuted in the green mile movie.

Check out my type R 750 rms newest version flexing 1.5 inches. That looks about half of an inch like stereo on my home audio 200 rms watt subwoofer. No offense but that barely looks like its doing anything. I have the M-R60 Alpine 600 watt monoblock amp too and it slams with gain less than half and bass boost and loudness is turned off. I disagree... had a pair of audio pipes, finally died after 18 years of service, due to undetected clipping. Or anything made by orion. Got a 10 year old pair of Ma Audio 15s. Got a 15 year old pair of pyle10s bazooka tubes that still get down. Get your amp out of the carpet, you'll over heat it.

A friend of mine is bumping an MA 18 that’s almost 20 years old I know of 4 people that had it through the years and it got played so if you use correct power an efficient box and not dirty/clipped power subs will last

look how small that surround is ....lol... The XMax on that thing must be only 13-15mm . That is def a SQ geared sub with a sealed box giving it tight responsive bass. Those things are known to blow once taken to r.m.s. numbers for a few mins . There are car audio companies that do reviews on them on YT . It has weak suspension , small tinsel leads, only 2.5 voice coil, no black glue on coil. They heat up quick and burn out. I would preferably go with an SSA ICON, SUNDOWN SA 12 V2, DEAF BONCE, AMERICAN BASS ELITE , OR RESILIENT AUDIO GOLDS. there are sooo many great options out there at that price point that will last forever if they are taken care of same as an Alpine. Parker has come so far since this lol now he has so dozens of high dollar subs at his disposal . Thanks to him i bought the SUNDOWN X V3 15, and man it slams off my 3300 watt Sundown amp and my Phoenix Gold 4 channel + Euphoria by DB DRIVE 4 channel with my Taramps dsp sll hooked up to my Joying 11.6in android radio with optical output , car audio is such an addiction i think you all can agree that its a never ending project, always having to buy whats new on the market trying to get louder and clearer. Speaking of which, i want to try out that new JP23 V1.5 THAT THING PUTS OUT 4000W FOR UNDER $300! IT IS STOUT, BUILT FOR ABUSE , LOOKS HIGH END RETRO . I wish parker did more Amp reviews cause that's where you need to buy quality at.
