The 2023 Mahindra XUV700 - made in India - might be the seven-seater family SUV bargain of the decade.
This new model is a budget-focused family crossover, with a standard seven seater layout, a long warranty, a punchy turbo engine, and a heap of standard technology and equipment.
If you’re looking at a 7 seater at this price point you might also be considering a five-year-old Toyota Kluger / Highlander, or maybe a Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Mazda CX-8 or CX-9, Nissan X-Trail or Mitsubishi Outlander, or the LDV D90.
There are so many alternatives at this price point that the Mahindra XUV7OO needs to be good, not only at being affordable, but at offering value for money and decent driving dynamics, too.
OK. Watch the video, then let me know if you'd roll the dice on this one!

These are actually a lot better than virtually all of the Chinese offerings . Quality is very good, it's a decent drive, but a little thirsty . But for anyone looking for a great vehicle, the Mahindra more or less nails it.

It's not Chinese, and it's not a CVT. Two huge positives right there. It looks OK, the interior is very nice, the screens are Euro class crisp and clear, far better than Ford Ranger's kaliedescope blurry colours. It's quite heavy at over 1800kg, so the fuel use at 8.6 on test is quite acceptable for a punchy 2.0 turbo with 380nm - especially on crap 91 fuel. It would probably love some 98.

Another good review Matt! Just the way you present the clips, keeps me coming back. Reminds me of another car guy (Paul M) from another well known car site .... Anyhoo, I like you're no nonsense approach, a bit rough around the edges, but engaging, unbiased, informative, honest and genuine opinions! I feel like I can trust you and what you're saying, when giving your opinions. I'm not in the market for a 7 seat SUV, but for some reason, I'm attracted to the XUV700! Not sure if it's because I like an underdog, but there just seems to be a vibe about the XUV700 that you're getting a pretty good vehicle at a pretty good price and that it's not trying to be something else other than what you see. It ticks a lot of boxes and the only thing holding it back, unfortunately, will be the badge. It definitely deserves to sell well here. If I bought one, the third row would never be used, but it would make for a huge rear cargo area! I have heard there could also be a 5 seat FWD spec coming to Australia, which would make for a great buy again!

If the RBA decides to raise interest rates a few more times and we slip into a recession, just as New Zealand has now done, it could be a buyers market again in the next 6-8 months, maybe sooner. Hi mate. Thanks for the feedback but cheap is WAY more clickable than affordable. More highly searched. So that’s it. And it’s cheaper than rivals. So it’s cheap.

@@therightcar , Thank you for your response. However, a middle-class family would not consider purchasing a cheap car over an affordable car. The XUV700 AX7L offers significantly more features than its rivals. If you introduce the vehicle as cheap, you can earn money, but the dealer that gave the car to review will undoubtedly lose market share. Just an opinion...

As an Indian, we absolutely do not like the word "cheap". I can tell you a story about this. In January 2008, a car named "Tata Nano" was launched in India for a price of 100,000 Indian rupees. At that time, the starting price of cars in India was 500,000 to 600,000 rupees. Tata Motors' main goal was to make a car that could be afforded even by the poor and middle class, and that's how the Nano came. Everything went perfectly from the engineering team, and the output was good. However, the sales department advertised it as the cheapest car ever made, which led to the failure of the car. Later on, we realized our mistake and started respecting the Tata Nano. So, obviously, we hate the word "cheap". A better term would be "affordable".

@@therightcar yes! maybe it's cheap for your country and not for us. I can give you a real life example. A Mechanical Engineer as a fresher in India earns a maximum of 5 lakh Indian rupees per year. Comparing the same in Australia., A fresher there can earn 80- 90k which is around 50 lakh Indian rupees. I hope you will get it by now..

Mahindra engines are bullet proof and mean to take beating..they were proven highly reliable in harsh Indian conditions(bumper to bumper traffic, bumpy roads, dust, heat, humid and also very cold up north)...so oz conditions should be a breeze...

Cheap as in cheaper in comparison to similar sized SUV's, but affordable is too vague comparison or description of something?. Affordability is subjective & relative, it tells me very little about the affordable subject/object??. Many things not relative to the affordable vehicle at all , can make it more or less affordable to anyone or at any time?. Good solid quality & impressive looking SUV Mahindra 👏, regardless whether it's more cheaper or affordable than its competitors 😁. Congratulations Mahindra, on your engineering success 👍, well done.
