@baletwoonefive5026 жыл бұрын
The reason Pats and Genos get longer lines than Jim’s is simple they are tourist destinations(traps) and they are for the drunk club goers that don’t have anywhere else to go for a cheesesteak. Mikey knew where to go for a good cheesesteak. Non of which were Pats or Genos. Mom and Pop stores have better cheesesteaks, shoot the Chinese American takeout places here make better cheesesteaks lol Just because celebrities visit a place doesn’t make it good. I have to speak up here! In the early 1990's, I was a short order cook here in San Francisco at a place that is still open called, The Cheese Steak Shop. It's a San Francisco Bay Area chain owned and operated by a Philadelphia native named Keith. He taught us the original way to cook and prepare a cheese steak: oil on the grill, a portion of sliced white onion, a portion of sliced sirloin steak, chop up the steak and onion until minced, shape lengthwise to either a 6" or 15" hoagie roll, cover with slices of Provolone cheese, cover with hoagie roll for one minute to let cheese melt, scoop up and over, sprinkle on top with sweet and hot cherry peppers and serve. The owner flies the Amoroso hoagie rolls in from Philly too!

I've never eaten at any of these places, but I can see why he chose Jim's as the best.

@@3DGEOPrints Appearance and personal experience. I've had a ton of cheesesteaks, and I can pretty much make an educated guess how they'd taste.

I grew up and lived 34 years about 30 minutes down 95 from Center City and have had a million cheesesteaks... everyone knows that you go to Pat's and Geno's for the experience (if you want to see and be seen or hang outside drunk after bar scene etc) but Jim's has been famous forever .... pretty sure Stuff Magazine called them the best like 20 years ago. Plus South Street itself is an experience... but there are hundreds and hundreds small places and pizzerias and little restaurant shops in the Tri State Area that make amazing cheesesteaks ... back in the 90s you could find an awesome cheesesteak prob 5 mins from your house for 5dollars in a 50 miler circular area.

Ugh South Street. 20 years ago most of the the small indy shops had been pushed off South by rising rents, 25 years ago and it was still a fun place to hang out. Jim's has never been better than mediocre. They chop the steak up like that because it's cheap meat. My friends mother used to work at the meat distributor they bought from and she said they never bought anything but the cheapest meat they could buy.
