I think this video is helpful for people trying to make a choice. I have consistently seen positive reviews of the MT10. If someone wants to race then the Senton may be a good choice because tracks often offer a 4WD SCT class, which is often the most brutal. So, it has to be durable. The price between the MT10 and Senton seem to be about the same. Then a choice may come down to availability of parts. On line it probably doesn't make much difference, but it may be different at the local hobby shop.
@RCTNT2 жыл бұрын
I didn't mention clubs as this one is about backyard bashing, but that's a great point. Parts availability is down to the manufacturer but both of these have plenty online, which tells me any local hobby shop could carry the parts if they chose to support that brand.

I have the Senton and MT10 out of this group. Never broken either (my 3 year old plays with them the most) after nearly 2 years. The MT10 sticks out to me as the best option of all for versatility and durability. I almost always replace tires with aftermarket rubber but the stock tires are as perfect as they come. No stock tires have lasted as long as them. The 3 diffs are super easy to get to and tuning them has made it an absolute monster. I even put paddle tires on it and we bash it in the snow during the winter with never a single issue. The Senton is now on belted Powerhobby tires after the stock tires blew out almost immediately and then we blew out Duratrax tires as well. Also the Senton NEEDED diff tuning just to keep it stable. My 3 year old just rips it around on ball fields mostly but it's had a fair share of air time and never had an issue. So I did the logical thing and got a Mojave as well.

Another point I would make if you don't already is that the shortcourse truck will accumulate everything into the chassis from dust, dirt, stones, grass, small animals. I would recommend a netted chassis screen that velcroa around and has a zip to acces battery etc. It almost a life saver for your electrics. Even if your gear is waterproof it doesn't prepare you for the mess that can happen with thes things. Its like every bit of dirt that is thrown up by the wheels is designed to hit the shell wheel arches and land right into the bathtub chassis. Also the inner mudguards you can buy aftermarket do not work but look very cool. Incidentally the team associated cars all come with a net.
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
Small animals, ah, my sides. Yep, thank you - the net has been discussed on the MT10 video/s and the Senton had a net installed on its upgrade video. The Bandit hasn't needed one. I think my Kraton still has its after-market net too. Makes a difference, eh! Cheers Robert :)

A really nice comparison video. I have a Senton, although I've monstered it now (huge tyres, bigger brushless system, larger big bore ZD Racing shocks, and cut bodywork). Stock, it handled so nicely on the heathland near me (bumpy, very sandy, and flat grass). The only one of the 3 I have no experience of is the 2wd buggy. I have a 4wd Tamiya Manta Ray that I still run, and that's great over the same heathland, but I'm a lot easier on it!! I've yet to see a bad review of the MT10, although it's bigger brother has a less good reputation!! Between the buggy and the monster truck (as I have the Senton, and a couple of FTX Zorro), I'd have to go for the MT10. It would definitely put a massive smile on mine, and my sons faces. 😎👍🏻 Happy New Year to you all. 🤗

@RCTNT3 ай бұрын
These are truggies - a mix of Monster Truck and Buggies. They give you less of the acrobatic agility of the MT in exchange for more of the higher-speed stability of the Buggy. It's a solid compromise, packing more off-road capability than the typical SCT as well. They're pretty much a well-balanced compromise for off-road fun and some competition too. Really, I should do a follow-up to this video that discusses the history of the truggy and how it's an ideal choice for people seeking the best 'all-rounder' solution for bashing. Thanks for the idea!

as someone whose first hobby grade RC (with the exception of a couple hosim and WLtoys models) was a senton, i have to say that the best overall machine has to be a SCT. i absolutely love my senton blx, and the only thing ive had to do to it is replace the steering servo as the stock ones are pretty lackluster. i do a good amount of driving on streets as there arent many tracks in my area, so the soft compound tires wear pretty quickly. but boy, with a 5200 MAH 100C LiPo , the 3S senton hauls some serious butt for a good 30 minutes, and takes pretty much any beating you throw at it

@RCTNT2 жыл бұрын
For sure. I've looked closely at the UDR and may grab one at some point, but I'm more likely to grab the Losi SBR 2.0. It's a shade less scale but arguably more durable and capable. Less scale again but more capable than both these would be the Arrma Mojave. It's also the smallest of the three but easily the toughest and best outright performer. Even so, I expect most would agree that for the scale desert truck experience, it's between the UDR and SBR. That should get you started down the rabbit hole! I'll have videos on these later on the year, definitely the SBR, possibly the UDR and unlikely the mojave, but we'll see how the others go and if there's demand for more :)

Excellent review, as always. I like the AWD/4WD buggies better than the 2WD ones, but they're both a lot of fun on the right ground. the other two types... they're just fun basically anywhere. I always wanted to get a short course truck, just don't really have anywhere to run it near us. About all that works well in our area is monster trucks and crawlers. I'm not really sure where it falls in the monster truck/truggy/basher lineup, but I'd like to see your take on the Traxxas Revo. I know you're not super big on the Nitro stuff, so that leaves the Revo 3.3 out (my personal favourite) but what about the E-Revo? Maybe you can have a go with one of those sometime in the future? I find that weird inboard cantilever suspension system fascinating and just, well, plain weird. I really like how it feels and handles. It's different from everything else out there. Better? I couldn't say, I don't have enough experience to know. But it's definitely an odd duck.
@RCTNT2 жыл бұрын
SCTs are quite flexible for locations, though arguably MTs give you the most flexibility. I'm considering a Revo 3.3, have been for a while. Their electric start and low weight are compelling for a nitro basher. Probably won't ever get an E-Revo as they're old tech now and their weak points have been addressed in the newer stuff from Traxxas. However, the video after next (Jan 13th publication date) will cover a pair of cars that have a similar cantilever suspension system. They're fine when they work, at least!
@elduderinolebowski54112 жыл бұрын
@@RCTNT the one thing the short course truck does not do well in, and the monster truck does, is tall grass/weeds/vegetation over heavily rutted plowed ground... which is all we have around here, except for the roads, which just aren't interesting for something like that. monster trucks don't thrive in this crap, but at least they can get through it and be fun, I used to have a really early monster truck from the late '80s that did okay. short course trucks tend to high center on the plants it can't crush down, and they just get stuck. repeatedly. glad to hear you're looking at the revo 3.3, that thing is a blast, the guys I know who have one love it. probably will be my next addition to the ground fleet, maybe sometime next year. or the year after. we'll see. i don't know anything about the e-revo other than it's an electrified version of the 3.3, but since I don't want a revo without nitro, that's as far as I looked into it. super excited to see the upcoming video with the similar suspension type cars. I didn't know the design had been cloned, so this will be a new experience.

2 wd buggies take much more skill to run and also (as we talked about) do require a smoother surface. Hard packed dirt is where they shine......They also prone to spin out too in turns and are harder to drift around corners but when you get it down, they are loads of fun. As for jumps: you can do big air but as you said, you have to have a landing ramp and it takes much more control, you have to get your speed and angle right....if you don't have a landing ramp, you have to slow your speed way down so you can stick the landing....when you do though? it's a great feeling.....

Largely yes, but on my first run the spur gear broke. It was a manufacturing defect, replaced under warranty, and these things happen with any manufacturer. Overall, the main weakness I've found is the steering servo. It isn't strong enough to last beyond 8 or 10 runs, so factor a better one into your upgrade budget in the weeks or months after you get it. Overall though, definitely a durable machine, no question 👍

@owen8538 the servo is the weak point for many vehicles, even most RTRs. The rest of the vehicle is excellent. I've made a few changes but they're just for skate park durability, such as the split drive shaft mod that tolerates chassis flex on bad landings. I'm happy with it.

Not only was it lighter than sportbikes, but the weight distribution and lovely ergonomics amplified the feeling of lightness. I may have had touring ambitions but tbh it was mostly for commuting. It was the only time in my life i actually enjoyed my commute. I'm just glad I got in on the good times, back then because bikes today are just awful. I'm sure there's some curmudgeon in there, but mostly bikes are just cheapened with worse specs than 20y ago.

Oh really? That's not great to hear! My sv was a 2003 and I loved it. It was the newest bike I ever had. It made my commute positively invigorating, too. 1h30m in a cage or 50 min on the bike. Good times, they were. I guess I'll have to start looking around at what's out there. I'd have thought things would be better than ever today but maybe they're not. Hmm.

Senton/Traxxas Slash 4x4 ftw :) Then buy a Mojave 😎👍

Heh, nice. Been looking at the Mojave... and the UDR... and the SBR 2.0... and I think SBR might have it, but the Mojave is undoubtedly the best technical performer of them. Decisions!!

@@RCTNT Mojave is great, but its mechanical layout screams buggy in disguise to me. Definitely the simplest and easiest to work on, but the Losi is really built like a tank... Which is NOT what anybody says about the - albeit, ultrascale- UDR. Decisions, decisions... What a great dilema to have, eh? 🙂

That's 100% accurate some of the time. Anything in particular from this video you think I could have done better or is this just a general observation? 🫣

This is very true. I've got a video about which scale is best, too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHvYm5l8itmAoac Where you're driving makes a big difference, I agree! Glad you're enjoying your cars 🤗

Senton is better than slash all day

We're going to find out soon - I have the 3s BLX already and a brand new slash 4x4 VXL is now here awaiting unboxing and review. I'm looking forward to comparing them directly.

I only got a slash

Nothing wrong with a Slash! I mean, ok, it needs alu shock caps, which it really should have come with. But everything from that point is optional (though sway bars are a big step up, too! And the Slash is crazily expensive in Australia, too. But it's still a great car 😊)
