the ham sandwich actually was a "leberkässemmel" (Leberkäse (direct translation liver-cheese, but its a kind of wrong translation, because the name comes from Laib (the shape of the baking utensil), not from the word Liver, and cheese was used in medieval times for compound food) is a kind of a spicier (but not in the hot meaning) baloney that is made in a brick form instead of sausage form, and mostly found in Austria and Bavaria (Germany).
