I think Virosol took off as a wheel cleaner in the early to mid noughties when a certain detailer was rebranding it as a wheel cleaner (didn't mention wheels on the label back then) marking it up and selling it as "MC2". It became popular on several owners forums (Audi TT for example) but then someone realised that it was simply Virosol which you could buy directly. All of a sudden Clover were getting all these calls from car enthusiasts wanting to buy it for wheel cleaning purposes. So I guess that's why they added it to the label.

John , it would be really good if companies give more info on ingredients in their products. I bought the Valet Pro citrus and discovered when I was diluting to use that it contains toluene. Had I know this I would have gone for some thing else . My husband has a myleoprolific neoplasm ( blood cancer) called Polycythemia Vera. Toluene are one of the chemicals that people with MPNs are told to avoid. Furniture restoration chemical products manage crystal-clear labelling , why can't detailing/ valeting/ car car?
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing Жыл бұрын
This is handled through SDS sheets. Companies have requirement to supply them with the product if requested.
@Celticmouse
@Celticmouse Жыл бұрын
@@ForensicDetailing thanks for the reply , yes SDS are available but not always easy to find and it can be frustratingly difficult to find full ingredients list. I realise it has implications about things like taking up extra webspace, printing publish etc wich will impact on cost. It seems that some of the older more established brands ( especially UK and US ) have a less transparent approach . For the folks who work with these chemicals day in day out there is higher potential for long term issues.

Been using the Autofinesse for a couple of years, bloody expensive, but takes off 95% of the grime with a 5 min dwell, no agitation and a straight jet lance off, you're left wondering whether or not to bother with a contact wash. Cost is prohibitive though, I'm a weekend warrior and just work on my GTI, so it works for me (note - my car is ceramic coated)

I would avoid TFR mate. you dont need it to just care for your car. Touchless will have the same impact on roam film without risk of staining trim or leaving a white caustic film on the car. lots of TFR's are non caustic but why take the risk. cheers thomas, clover chems could be good mate not tried. avoid things like sodium hydroxide and phosphates in your pre wash.

A general question on citrus pre-washes. Are they really needed? I had one from Sansom (Primus), but really struggled to see if it worked or not, as the jet wash seems to clean the car really well. Then I use a shampoo wash (Adams Shampoo). I now have Bilt Hamber Auto Foam, and saw Jon's latest video using it. My car is silver, and has about the same amount of winter dirt on it, as in that video. The results are impressive. My process is now, Autofoam, jet wash, then shampoo wash, then jet wash, dry with drying towels. A detailer (Sansom's Boosted) and Sansom's Hydra (hydrophobic protection). Job done, quick and I get the results I want. I believe, we all need to decide, what works best, what we want and what time we want to spend. Just interested to hear other views/opinions, as I believe we have too many products, and am not convinced we need that many, as well as having too many companies fighting for our business.

APC works through emulsification mainly (good APC anyway minus the caustic stuff). Citrus have the ability to work through disolving grease and grime etc with d-limonene. some citrus can be 200-1 and 10 pounds for 5 litres, so its not the cost factor that makes you only use APC. But yes lots feel like you Im not disagreeing because I think you can do without citrus if you want.

I think ill do a degreasing test at 5% pir for all of them. And then a degreasing test at recomended usage. So relative horsepower and real world horse power. Cost comparison, concentration comparison, quality of instructions and health and safety, versatility, horsepower, and perhaps then a test to see if they do anything bad to poly carb or corrosive to metal. something like this.

I’ve put a layer of Surfex HD down on the lower end of my motors and then foamed auto foam on top and it’s destroyed an entire winters worth road traffic film, grime, mud and dirt. You can’t beat it I’m confident!

It’s strange how citrus pre wash is mostly a uk thing. Autoglanz do give some ridiculous dilution instructions 👍🏻

I’ve seen another KZbinr use Forst in its straight out the bottle application and she doesn’t normally rinse the car off first. A regular snow foam application over the top to extend the dwell time and help with the cleaning properties

Might be interesting to include one or two APCs which the manufacturer says can also be used as a prewash, such as eyg. Koch Chemie Greenstar, Sonax Multistar. Also, a very popular product in central Europe would be Shiny Garage Prewash Citrus Oil.
