Thanks Titan, I really enjoy the content like this. That hints at starting your own shop. Because working for other people is absolute self degrading, because the shop's literally treat you like garbage, even if you are good, they want the cheapest illegal youngest refugee labor possible. They don't even have to speak the language. They just want them to push buttons and hand measure while letting dozens of bad parts get mixed in with the good they are okay with that. I hate coming on comments section and speaking negatively , but this gives a lot of great information and hope thanks for the hope titan. I had a cast granite frame on the little mill I started with. That thing was a beast. It could pump out parts all day long. No tool changer since the tools were all on a bed that ran across. Paid $24,000 new back in 2015.

I have an X7 in my garage with the 16 atc and syntec control. Just to clarify, the spindle is rated at 11 hp continuous and 16 hp for 30 minutes. The machine is an absolute beast for the money. The base model referenced that starts at 34k or whatever uses an LNC controller and runs on single phase power. Spindle outputs aren’t as great. Lots of great people and information over on the syil cnc users Facebook group. It’s currently functioned as the main hub for technical support.

I have 2 4axis syil x7’s and I’ve had one of them for over 3 years no issues they’re great machines . I’ve done over 200 jobs on it and have provided for my family with them . They’re extremely rigid they have an epoxy granite base and weigh several thousand pounds . If you don’t have the power requirements you can go single phase . These machines are extremely accurate and repeatable for the price and are capable to run long lasting production runs .

I question the rigidity with a mineral casting instead of cast iron

There are basically two things when it comes to stiffness (rigidity): The stiffness of the material (modulus of elasticity) and the geometric stiffness hence the construction. When it comes to mineral casting the material itself isn't as stiff as cast iron but it allows for geometric designs that are very stiff while still being economic. So you can't really say that a machine out of material A is always more rigid than out of material B. Greetings from Germany. :)

Do yourself a favor and RUN from tormach. I started my shop with an 1100mx 2 years ago and the z-axis ball screw snapped after 3 weeks (no idea how this happened) after countless other issues right out of the gate. Took 2 months of fighting with tormach before they finally agreed to refund the machine but I was still responsible for getting it back to them so I ended up driving it back myself from Southern California to Wisconsin. 2 years later, I’ve got 2 DN Solutions DEM’s and I’m running aerospace and medical parts on them all day every day with absolutely zero issues. If it’s between tormach and syil, I’d hands down go with either syil or a haas super mini mill. The DEM is an amazing machine but a little pricy when starting!

Not even close man. 1600 lbs fully dressed vs 4500 lbs. Dovetail ways vs THK linear guides and ball screws. 2 hp vs 11 hp. Options for wireless probing, a real tool changer, mist collector, chip conveyor, and the list goes on. The only reason to buy a Tormach is if you have to be able to move this thing into your work space down flight of steps in pieces. The best comparison to an X7 is a Haas super mini and it probably beats that one too. Only perk with the haas is the cat40 spindle and better support network but it has less horsepower (Haas rates everything at 200% load) and doesn’t make peak power until 6000 rpm. The X7 makes peak power and torque at 3000 rpm. Craptastic iron casting vs epoxy granite which has better damping, stiffness ans thermal characteristics. People love to shit on the 30 taper spindles but there’s ways around the spindle rigidity limitations with the right tools, tool holders, and programming strategies. Oh and the X7 costs basically half as much.

Appears to be a great machine for the $$$$ However, what about service and support? Doesn’t matter if it’s the greatest machine in the world, if you can’t get decent service what good is it? Haas are great and we have several but service is less than desirable. They have grown so much and just like everything else they can’t get enough talented support ppl. Heck it’s so bad you can take courses from them to become certified to repair and will be warranted . That’s great and all but hell now your taking good ppl that are programming , setting up etc and then expecting them to be a repairman as well. I’d want to have a great service team before I’d even consider it.

Hi Titan I have an X7 which I am happy with. However the machine needs a number of modifications to make it work for you. How long does it take your guys to check the hydraulic oil level in the tool release intensifier above the spindle? Once they have done this a few times, they will cut an inspection hatch with two screws.

Hi I have a dentist's mirror. I am interested to know how do you use a mirror without removing the 14 screws that hold the cover on and also releasing the 8 other screws on top of the column? Also did you find it difficult to replace the cover once removed. I cut a small rectangular piece from the return fold on the top left hand side of the cover making refitting very easy. @@MrRctintin

I’ve modified inside my column as well, I have a solenoid valve in there on the coolant connected to a relay that opens the valve as soon as the coolant pump starts, and closes the valve when it stops. This means I have minimal coolant leaking from the nozzle once the pump stops.

Thanks Rob. I got rid of all the Syil coolant distributer system inside the cabinet. I started with a new ball valve with a decent handle. I then fitted a six port coolant ring that clamps onto the spindle housing. I only use three of the 6 ports with 3 small stainless steel nozzles. To stop any small dripping after I have finished work, I turn the ball valve off and quiclky blow away any trapped coolant with an air blast up one of the nozzles. I have advised Syil China of my modifications.@@MrRctintin

Any chance these machines have the precision enough to make a micron sized ruler, units of marking. So you would have one micron wide mark, skip a micron, and then make another mark that is one micron, skip one micron, make another mark that is one micron wide, keep that pattern going, can that machine do that. Just to reiterate in case I'm not clear, basically making a pattern of onoff, onoff, on is where you etch into the material, off is where you skip a space. And the ons and the offs are the same width of one micron wide.

Maybe go for a employment with a shop, to get experience, get a feel for what demands there are around, before starting for oneself (if one already got a good idea what to manufacture, it's different)

Access to cnc machines is still such a gap.... This helps close the gap in a big way! One suggestion is to offer a "digital twin" true simulation of the Syil machines that you are offering (Siemens has that as an option on some of their controls). Partnered with the Academy curriculum a digital twin would allow a path from completely starting with only a computer up to purchasing their first Syil machine. Way to go and thanks for all that the Titans of CNC team does to lift up advanced manufacturing in the USA and beyond!

This often entails buying cheaper machine tools, work holding, tooling, etc. to start. Just because a product is made in the USA, it doesn’t mean it’s quality and/or reasonably priced. Vice versa, just because a product is made/assembled in China, it doesn’t mean it lacks quality. People forget that most of their home furnishings originated from China, the microchips in their electronics were manufactured in China, their clothing may have originated from China, etc.

We’re going to make videos on how to fix and or replace the leading items that go bad etc… we also are developing a network of individuals that are qualified to fix the machines. If we add service beyond that, it would drive up the price of the machine. Good news is that these machines have a very good track record for quality and their is a great Facebook group of Syil Users (5000 members) that love the machines and help each other out if anything goes wrong. As we go forward we will keep improving.

@jamescrud sorry man I got your question but can’t find your comment on here anywhere. The mill is 16 hp (12 kw max) on 380V. They provide a step up transformer with the machine to take you from 220 3 phase to 380. I have dedicated 200A single phase service in my shop and am running mine on a 15 horse phase converter with a 50A breaker because I was expecting to receive a 5.5 kw machine. But in all reality you should be on a 20 hp phase converter on a 60A single phase breaker. If you manage to pull 12 kw, that’s around 31A of 380 and 50ish amps of 220 through the converter. The 20 horse unit is rated for 52A flow through. The other thing that helps me is that my supply voltage is hot - 245 single phase yields around 260V three phase through the converter and 420V on the output side of the transformer, which is still within range for the control. All that means is that my machine will draw less amperage than a 380 machine, given the same cut parameters. If you talk to American rotary they’ll try to sell you a 40 horse converter because you could theoretically pull more than that if you somehow max every axis servo and spindle simultaneously. Idk how you’d do that in any other situation but a full rapid machine crash and even then that’s just for a moment. When used within normal safe parameters, you’re gonna find the limits of your tools or the spindle itself before you get anywhere close to 100% load on the spindle, let alone 150%.

As an owner of an X7, I can tell you that the support from the SyilUS team has been excellent. They do not have maintenance teams like some, but for the minimal issues (and even support with 3rd party hardware and config/ladder changes), I’ve been very happy.

I have a Hass plant relatively close by which has its appeal, but the syil seems like a better value for the money spent. I've already heard they are more accurate

@@austinconnell1967Either 3rd party or swap my own parts. I like that the controllers are pretty wide open and I can make immediate adjustments rather than waiting on a tech

I've been eyeing these, but the lack of a solidworks / hsm post processor is the thing holding me back. Will you guys be working with them to support that? Because their x11 is the perfect size and the price is a huge selling point. A reliable 3 axis is needed, simultaneous 4th and 5th are what I would like to get my shop to one day.

I have a design for a machine that could be used from anything of 3D printing to Laser lithography. For CNC it can only be the top down view. The design does not allow any backlash. There are NO rails, rods, belts, gears of any kind except for the spindle or what would push filament. And has submicron precision. And all of the action is done on the inside of the motors that are stacked vertically in the same space. extreme high torque because the motor's diameter is a bit bigger than the build volume.
