When Leslie Nielsen died, ESPN wrote an obituary on their website for Enrico Polatso. It’s well worth the read.

The woman Frank is in love with is played by Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley's widow.

Yeah, doesn't she seem *way* too young in 1988 to have been married to Elvis? (Lemme look this up...) And...OH...oh...oh, dear...

27:55 Dude, you're observations are great. I've seen this movie hundreds of times since it ran on HBO in 1990 and I've never noticed the cheese move. I always looked at Leslie thinking that they held the shot so we can see his expression.

I live in California, where weed is legal. Weed can make almost anything funny. But this movie, Airplane!, and Blazing Saddles can kill you through laughter if you watch while high.

Around the scene that is shown at 19:43 in this video (not in this reaction but its one of the crowd reaction shots), a couple of my family members were extras. You can see my uncle in a big red shirt (he is slightly visible at the aforementioned time), and his wife (my aunt) standing next to him (hiding behind another extra). My uncle's brother was actually married into the Zucker family, through one of the brothers' sisters I think. That sister also has a bit part in every one of their films (I think she is one of the women that screams in the airbag car sequence in this film). I really love my connection to this great film and the great family that made it.

I think you've seen Airplane! right? Frank Drevin is played by the late Leslie Nielson who also played the Docter on Airplane! who kept telling Ted Striker "don't call me Shirley" 😁😆

The amazing thing is Leslie Nielsen actually started out as a serious actor

2 1/2 is a little broader comedywise, but has lots of gut busting moments. Though Airplane! and Top Secret! are still the other high watermarks for the Zuckers. Thinkin about it, though, the first episode of Police Squad! is DEFINITELY what you should do as a mini episode. Few KZbinrs have done it, and it would so be worth a watch.

The Naked Gun series have plots as mainly a framing device for the ridiculous comedy, and it definitely shows. An absolutely excellent series of movies. I do hope you check out the others too. :)

34:42 - Years ago Baseball players were known for chewing tobacco during games, and of course would spit the juice out. I know it was disgusting and players no longer chew, especially since we now know that chewing tobacco can lead to cancer. A Baseball Hall of Famer, a great hitter, Tony Gwynn died relatively young from cancer caused by years of chewing tobacco.

I saw this film years ago, when I was about 11-12-ish... I wish I could go back and watch it again for the first time... even 30 years later, I still laugh every time I watch it. It's rare to find comedy like this, I mean, can you honestly show me a gag in any other film as good as the informer bribery scene at the docks?

Mh. I think back in the days good comedy wasn't that rare. Nowadays however. It is a tragedy.

You're great at picking up details. I've seen this classic a million times, and never noticed the luggage falling out of the plane. Or that the title of the Hospital was "Hospital".

I'd argue that this movie is brilliant *because* it has a genuine plot, taken seriously. Airplane and Top Secret (from the same filmmakers) both did too. NG2 and 3 don't respect their own plots and thusly fall kinda flat. imao, at least. Airplane 2 is pretty solid, tho.

Great movie. I hope you also do the sequels. It is a very funny trilogy, This trilogy is based on a short lived tv series of 6 episodes of Police Squad that was a head of its time and canceled, The secretary in the movie that served the tea and was hypnotize is the directors mother she was also in airplane (the woman with the makeup). You should also see Top Secret another funny movie from the same directors of Airplane and this movie. Fyi The Shakespeare in the park bit is a spoof on dirty harry movie line.

Old fart here...The best comedy ever made is called Some Like It Hot, the brilliance of one of the greatest mid-20th century directors, Billy Wilder, released in 1959 in black and white with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe.

Dude, the show only lasted SIX episodes. The show was considered TOO funny and too smart because the audience HAD TO PAY ATTENTION to be able to catch all the jokes. I was heartbroken but when The Naked Gun came out, we were there on opening night. That was over THIRTY TWO years ago and I still watch this movie once a week and all the folks reacting to it.
@lewis97022 жыл бұрын
13:28 - Everybody thought that. That was the joke. Everyone assumed Frank was noticing noticing her snatch, not an actual stuffed Beaver.

Lionfish are highly venomous. Think a venom that is akin to that of a cobra, and is a neuromuscular toxin. While most stings are accidental (lionfish aren't aggressive), it is still better to seek medical attention if stung.
