You can have a Separate PLAY BACK monitor (of sorts) with the Free Version of DaVinci Resolve. In the Fairlght Tab Open your VIEWER then drag it to the upper Left corner of the Second Monitor (I use a 42" UHDTV), Now Grab the Lower Right Corner of the Viewer and Drag it to lhe Lower Right Corner of the Second Monitor. Now you have a Large Screen Viewer.

If you're a beginner, 32gb of ram is recommended, but I only have 8gb right now (ordering more, never needed more for any task until I started video editing) and it only matters for me right now when I have chrome open with a 50+ tabs. Otherwise, for the simple projects I do, I've used 8 time lines layered with no issue. But again, very simple stuff. No fusion or color grading.

Hi Zyad, thanks so much for watching :) You might struggle with those specs. The CPU and GPU should be fine for full HD editing, but you'll probably want more RAM than this. I would also recommend a larger SSD, as working from the HDD will feel quite slow.

What I've read is that DR Studio can use multiple GPUs, not that the free version won't use the GPU.

Thanks so much for watching! From what I understand, the free version can make use of the GPU for certain processes, but not for exporting video. I might be wrong, but in my own experience going from the free version to Studio, this may apply to playback as well. My task manager showed that in the free version, my GPU was not utilised in playback while I was using the free version, no matter what my settings where. As soon as I upgraded, before even changing any settings, my GPU was being used, and playback was perfectly smooth.

Hey Sir, good and informative Video! Maybe you have time for the concerns about my new system. I would appreciate it. I plan to upgrade my system. At the moment I have an Ryzen 5 2600x, Radeon 5600 xt and 16 GB of RAM - and my System is really stuttering when it comes to adding Fusion Transition, Fusion Effects (I use optimized Media, Proxies and stuff)- -> but its the editing stuff I love and do the most - so with stuttering it is timeconsuming and really annoying (videomaterial is maximum 4k and 60 fps). The new processor schould be a AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, then I add another 16 GB of RAM and for Graphic Cards I think about 3 Options: RTX 3060 (without Ti so I have 12 GB VRAM -I read that it is better for Fusion?!), RTX 3070 Ti (8 GB VRAM) or RTX 3080 12GB VRAM. My first question is what you think about the Processor - Is a Ryzen 9 better as a Ryzen 7 for Davinci for example in Terms of Creating Optimized Media and also in general? My second question is what do you think is the difference between the Graphic Cards - Does it a RTX 3060 fusion effects, transitions and so on already without stuttering? Is the 12 GB VRAM of the RTX 3060 even more usefull than the RTX 3060 ti, RTX 3070ti for the stuff I do? And how big of a difference is a RTX 3080 to the RTX 3060 because for the RTX 3080 I would need a new PC-Case(Graphic Card too big) and a new power adapter(I only have 500 Watt) and I am also concerned about the more Kwh I would use with this System with the energy prices going high. Hi Eric, Thanks so much for watching, and those are some great questions. I would personally recommend going with AMD's newer 7000 series over the 5000 series, and the Ryzen 7 7700X would give you greater performance than the Ryzen 9 5900X. The Ryzen 9 7900X and 7950X would of course be even better. From what we've seen in our recent testing, Intel's 13th gen processors seem to be the best choice - specifically the ones with onboard graphics (non-F SKUs). Resolve can take advantage of the Quick Sync feature available on these for faster decoding of H.264/HEVC. With regards to GPU, the RTX 3060 is a great starting point, but you would benefit from something more powerful if possible. 500W is quite low at this point, especially with newer CPUs being quite power hungry as well. If possible, a new PSU would be a good investment, and a larger case would give you greater airflow. Best of luck!

Hi, for current specs, if I can go with top CPU like the i9-13900KF - GeForce RTX 4080 , would staying with a ddr4 motherboard and ram create any bottleneck that you can think of? I'm finding info that ddr5 may not make that much difference, but what would it do with something like DR18.5.1? I know that Vram is important and that's why I thought the 4070ti may just not last long enough. I'm just wondering if keeping the ddr4 is okay (assuming fast nvme drives too). I want a PC that's going to do well for a bit

The new “Depth Map” feature seems to be very intensive on my GPU. i’m currently running a vega 56 wit he 8GB VRAM. Have you guys had the same issue?

Hi Ilan, thanks so much for watching! From what we've seen, Depth Map does seem to be quite heavy on GPU usage, and it uses a lot of VRAM. Vega 56 would be about the starting point for what we'd recommend for a usable experience with this feature.

HP Omen 16 Ryzen 7 5800h or HP Victus 16 i7 12700h? Both same graphics card 4gb and RAM 32gb. For video editing with Resolve. Victus would need to get RAM substituted, but would cost similarly. Third option Asus tuf dash f15 with a i7 12650h and a RAM update.

It depends on the size and resolution of your projects - I would recommend DDR5 where possible, and if you aren't working on large, high resolution projects, 64GB will be great. You would get greater overall performance from the Ryzen 9 7950X than from the non-K 13900, especially with DDR5 RAM vs DDR4.

Hi Andrew, thanks so much for watching, and glad you enjoyed the video. I wouldn't recommend it for a feature. The Mac Mini doesn't support a lot of RAM, with the absolute maximum being 32GB in the M2 Pro version. 32GB would be our minimum recommendation for large editing projects. The Mac Mini seems like quite a powerful system for the price, but a Windows desktop would be a better option due to the options for higher performance parts.

Hi Xaid, at that price point it might be easier to find a good laptop. I'm not sure what prices are like in your area, but ideally something with a 12th gen Intel CPU like the i7 12700H or i5 12500H. If you could find one with an RTX 3050, that would be great.

Hi Demet, thanks so much for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it :) ROG Strix laptops are great, and those specs seem like a great place to start. 16GB could work for you depending on your workflow - if you plan on editing at higher resolutions (above 1080p) or adding effects with Fusion, you'll want to upgrade to 32GB, but if not, 16GB is fine. The Ryzen 7 CPU and 512GB SSD should be perfect.

Hi Saman, thanks so much for watching, and sorry for the late reply. We would definitely recommend a more powerful system for working with Fusion and more complicated timelines. With the i7 1065G7 being a low power laptop CPU, its focus is more on efficiency than sheer performance. We would recommend a desktop system with a newer i7, or even i5 depending on your budget. 16GB is quite minimal as well, and we would recommend at least 32GB - potentially more if you are working with higher resolution video. A desktop RTX GPU would make a difference as well, especially if you're using the paid version (or if you plan on doing so in the future). Hi, thanks so much for watching. These specs would be great for 1080p, but I have a feeling they would struggle at 4K. The RTX 3050 desktop GPU generally my starting recommendation for 4K editing, and the laptop version lags behind quite a bit. If you could step it up to an RTX 3060 laptop GPU, you'll have a much better time - the 3060 laptop GPU is on par with the 3050 desktop GPU. It's also a good idea to slightly overspec your laptop since you won't be able to upgrade the GPU in the future. The 12500H is quite a nice laptop CPU, and it even slightly outperforms the desktop i5 12400. This should be able to handle your workflow. The RAM and SSD look good as well. I agree that a desktop would be ideal, but 12500H/RTX 3060 in a laptop should be a good combo.

Thanks so much for watching, and thanks for the comment as well. :) We noticed that a few people have mentioned dual monitors working on the free version, and we thought it may have been a new feature that's been added since we made this video, but I think it might actually be Video Clean Feed that's the difference. To clarify, are you able to use your second monitor for Video Clean Feed? Basically a full screen preview of the video without any other interface elements. From what I can tell, this feature is exclusive to the paid version, or at least it was at the time we made this video. We're planning on making an updated video either way, but it would be very useful to know if the free and paid versions are now entirely the same in this area. Thanks again for your feedback!

I have a question. I am building a system to play Call Of Duty in 4K with simultaneous streaming, some sound effects, background music, three cameras, and microphones. Then, edit it in a free version of Davinci 18 (I am thinking of buying a license). What do you think of the following system? Would you change something, add something, or maybe take something away? - i9 12900K or i7 12700K is enough? Q. How to cool the i9 beast ? Here I got 360 thermaltake toughliquid ultra 72.69 will it keep up ? No overclock. - what Motherboard ? I still can't decide; too many choices - I need lots on USBs. No WiFi needed, but Bluetooth nice to have - RTX 3090 - Fury Beast 64GB DDR4 or go with DDR5 ? - Corsair 1000W Please help me with choosing the right rig 4 me. Many thanks.

That looks like a great spec! Just a few notes: If you won't be overclocking, it would be safe to go with an i9 12900 or i7 12700 (non-K). They both have great performance in both single and multithreaded tasks, and you could use a B660 motherboard instead of a more expensive Z690 - make sure you get a high quality B660 though. Keep in mind that overclocking adds a lot to performance, and there are some great guides on youtube. For an i9 12900K, a 360mm watercooler would be your best bet - super convenient if you already have one you can use. Just make sure it has the required mounting hardware for socket LGA1700 (12th gen motherboards). In terms of motherboards, Aorus has great Z690s, and ROG Strix B660s are our favourite. Make sure it's the right form factor for your case (ATX, micro-ATX etc.) RTX 3090 would be fantastic, but I'd say you should go ahead and get the DR Studio license to get the most out of it. Definitely go with DDR5, it makes a huge difference for performance in our experience. Corsair 1000W PSUs are great - we love their RM, AX and HX series most. 1000W will be perfect for a 12900K and RTX 3090. Hope this was helpful!
