"Best Confusing Science Toys That Will Definitely Confuse You" Were these toys cleverly invented by clever inventors who cleverly invent clever things? And were they carefully made by careful makers who make things carefully? I'm sure this video will be viewed with interest by interested viewers who are interested.

The Trammel of Archimedes is actually useful - you can use it to draw ellipses. We have one in the wood shop I work at. I didn't know that increasing the number of shuttles would increase the sharpness of the ellipse drawn, that's cool.
@orvarl-o2554
@orvarl-o2554 Жыл бұрын
It is because it doesn't. In the two shuttle version, the distance from the shuttles to the tip is exactly the longest and shortest distances from the center of the elipse. Similar distances can be observed on the 5:shuttle version albeit not as direct, but importantly, the sharpness of the elipse is not due to the number of shuttles, but the relative position of the shuttles on the handle; in the 2 shuttle case: the further up the middle shuttle sits, the sharper the elipse. 3 years late to the party...

They made great weapons, you'll never forget being hit by a flying Weeble. Weebles were not the first application of this principle, there were toys on sale in the 40's and 50's to put in your pet Budgerigars cage. They were made in the shape of a Budgie and the birds would sit for hours having a fight with it.

@isaiahut24 But the can is tapered and thus the same principle applies with the exception the weeble wobble had allot less upper mass per volume of air compared to the can which made it so that as long as there was the tiniest motion the unspent kinetic energy of of the weighted bottom held aloft would move the weeble wobble toward the gravitational center from the conical point of the weeble. The curved taper area is key as the weeble weight was slightly above the actual bottom which cause the rounded placing to be the center of gravity just below the curve, as the weighted end is made flatter toward the earth as the mass entirety moves toward the moving gravitational center. Both are doing the same.

By placing a weight in the bottom, you lower the center of mass and center of gravity, which means that if the center of mass is on the opposite side of the focal poit as the direction is leaning, the object will return to it's standing position.

No. Not at all. The pistons don't travel over center in the engine and the crank and rod assembly (by itself, nevermind the master and slave arrangement in a radial engine) has different kinematics than this one. This is more like a ring and planet (or internal gear) arrangement. The rotor maintains point to point contact with the stationary base around the periphery. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epicyclic_gearing

The answer to your can example is a fairly easy one. Aluminum, which the cab is made of, is a very soft and not dense at all. Obviously the can is empty, and that's what makes this so easy. There is a washer, either carbon steel or stainless steel, which cut into perfect circle that almost perfectly fits into the bottom concave party of the can. Stainless/carbon steel are substantially more dense than aluminum and the weight of the washer is perfectly distributed at the very bottom of the can, which in turn keeps the can from tipping over.

8:25 The liquid stacks highest farther from the center for the same reason why you should put songs that have a lot of sizzly high frequencies near the edge of the LP record. Further from the center of a rotating circle, there is more speed meaning the centrifugal force will act on the water more over there. For the record the amount of vinyl traveling under the needle's contact point is greater for the same amount of time when the needle is near the edge of the record.

There are two contributing reasons why the can “rights” itself. One is the center of gravity and the other is the shape of the bottom of the can. If you did this with a true cylinder then the can may not right itself because the center of gravity may fall inside the can. Because a soda can was used, the center of gravity occurs just outside the fulcrum point which is the hip of the can bottom in this case. This is why ocean going boats are not flat bottomed like barges. If a wave causes the boat to roll onto its side, the center of gravity being lower that the “hip” (it’s called the chine) of the hull allows the boat to roll back and right itself. A flat boat may flip over and get stuck turtled because even if the center of gravity is low, it isn’t below the hip of the boat. Meaning, it is stable upside down as well as right side up. Thus, round hulls
