Great sprayer! I have the Ultra and painted the entire interior of my 1600sqf home. I love the interchangeable tips as it helped me get the paint flow/fan size just right for the various paints I used. I know you were concerned about its ability to do big jobs and, while you will definitely get a forearm workout, I had no issues with overheating while running the sprayer continuously through multiple batteries. I also purchased extra 42oz cups and liners and kept other charged batteries handy so I wouldn’t have to stop and refill as often. Just don’t leave paint in the pump overnight. That cost me around $200 for a new pump… I hope this helps some people!

Just bought this unit to paint some shed siding and other small projects. So far I'm very impressed, makes easy work of t111 shed siding. It's a bit of a paint hog with overspray but the time savings in worth it. I am heavily invested in the Milwaukee m18 battery system and wasn't crazy about now adding a Dewalt cordless tool. I spend about $21 on Amazon and got a Milwaukee-to-Dewalt adapter to use on the paint sprayer and it works great. Sold both Dewalt batteries and the charger for $100.

That skill share sounds great. I have two of these. One Ultra and one TC Pro. I have put about 90 gal. Through the pumps before the clogging problems begin. They spray excellent and I am a pro painter. I refinish trim and paint small 50-70 sq. Ft ceilings with it. Now the clean out. I can do it in about 6-7 minutes.. basically take off cup leave the cup holder top on and tip up side down under a faucet. Switch between prime and spray several times. Easy to clean and 1/2 the time of my big G490’s. Recommended if you do 5-10 jobs per year.

I painted a 175ft long x 17ft high mural with the corded version. I couldn’t afford a large sprayer at the time. But I only had to replace the pump once and that’s very easy. I’m going to purchase the cordless ultra or maybe ultramax version which i read has a brushless motor which is more efficient. Still have a lil more research to do but Just fyi you can do rather large projects with these if need be. You def will get an arm workout tho. These cordless versions are awesome for when you need to travel light but paint big!!! Highly recommended! These things are troopers!
@carlcox73323 жыл бұрын
One of the biggest benefits I've seen for these vs the larger units is the amount of paint that's needed to even use it. The larger airless go through paint really quick. It takes almost a half gallon just to prime up the system of my large airless. A gallon of paint won't get you very far and then there's still around a 1/3 of the can left when the pickup tube is pretty much useless. These are great if you have a small project and just have a quart of paint to do it.

Years ago I looked at Graco's in big box and learned those models use the RAC V tips versus the better RAC X tips on the pro models sold in paint stores. For same money I went with the base pro model and never looked back. So good for large jobs but for small tasks a pain to set up and clean out (long hose means a lot of paint to flush.) So when they started offering the handhelds I jumped in and got the cheap cheap DIY corded model and it works fine so far, and not as hard to clean up IMO. But only two tips and 1500 PSI so started looking at these better versions but of course Graco playing the same game offering incompatible versions with proprietary tips in big box versus pro paint stores (and Amazon). So my current two speed consumer version was really cheap on a deal day or something - less than 140 bucks so when it wears out I will likely pony up for the Ultra plus as it can spray lacquer and volatiles. But wow over 800 clams plus if Dewalt ever obsoletes the current 20v battery form factor ( and i'm a Makita 18v guy, same fear tho) ...anyway all of these use the flex containers but like you point out the plus has a solvent compatible version to tolerate solvent coatings. You can buy extra flex containers and you can use a plug to seal unused paint in the flex containers (solvent or regular) and just clean the gun for overnight preservation- can't really do that with my pro model that only works with 5 gallon buckets and needs to be cleaned every night or face gumming up the pump, hose and gun. Oh and oil - gotta oil the big boy every time.

Two additional points: Storage I like how the compact it is not eating up garage/shop space. Also for the weight, I use two arms/hands ... one supporting paint reservoir and other on the handle. I have the professional airless sprayer, that cost me only $399 last year. I can run a full gallon of paint as set up, or simply make some adjustments, and run a full 5 gallon can. And because you aren't holding the paint and battery, but just the gun and hoses, it is not hard on the arms. You literally can paint 30 houses with this thing, with no replacement of parts, so long as you do the regular maintenance. Wagner also puts out a pretty cheap version of the same I have, you just have to manually add oil to the pump in the same area you put the paint.

I've gotta agree that the Ultra is the better option. What I really like is how little paint you disturb (buy and put into gun). I really like that you can buy a cap, additional bags and carrier and store the unused paint for later (like the next coat or two) or (like the next days work) - less waste and I really don't want to put unused paint back into the original container or throw it out. With the Ultra using the pro tips, this is the best of all world for smaller jobs like one room trim on paint your home one room at a time, putting the room back, and moving to the next room.

Kudos to those who have had good luck with these. I will say I did not have luck with the tc pro or ultra pro. Paid $1,000 between both of them and ended up selling both and purchasing a Fuji q4 for the same price and couldn’t be happier. The gracos always were very finicky with the priming, , losing prime and I didn’t like the adjustability. A $50 fflp tip if you want to change how much or little you want to spray vs a spray gun that has those adjustments built in. Graco could do this with their guns but they would be losing money on tips. Just my .02

Great review. I almost purchased the ultra to paint some trim thinking it would be faster and easier than my low end magnum airless. Instead I ended up just painting with my HVLP which isn't as light as my airless but it is far easier to clean. I think the most attractive feature of the graco pro/ultra is the fact that you don't need as much material because there aren't any lines. I have one of the cheaper models and found out the flaws pretty quickly after painting my first project and being limited to the one tip size. For $600 I’ll buy two handheld HVLP(one for water one for oil) which have a variety of tip options @ $100 ea and a bigger airless sprayer like the magnum for big projects which again has a variety of tip options. Yes they have cords but like you said these small sprayers aren’t designed for big projects so you really shouldn’t have an issue with dragging the cord through wet paint bc you’ll only be painting a couple cabinets or a furniture piece. I really don’t get the philosophy of use of these cordless models especially at their price point. I bought the DS after you recommended it and was disappointed in the purchase after I found out about tip limitations so I wanted to make sure and leave this comment and hopefully save someone else the heartache

If you want to spray stain or oil based paint, you have to add a grounding cord to your cordless sprayer hence taking away the cordless feature and scratching your head, why Graco? Couldn’t Graco come up with a solution for spraying stain other than a corded cordless? I was thinking that a floating ground strap around the waist should essentially work. No ground with oil paint or stain gives you continuous shocks. Fun!

I have the same sprayer (TC Pro) and I have had nothing but problems. I have tried several kinds of latex paint and all of them required thinning to get fully atomized. Without thinning I get terrible tails in the spray pattern. It sprays a ton of paint and over spray even with a 310 tip. I bought it to do cabinets and furniture projects and I have learned it is definitely not for fine finishing. Baseboards and trim, sure. But not a nice piece of furniture. You just can't get a good finish. I was hoping for the price I would save the hassle of an HVLP. No thinning and cordless sounded so nice, but it's too good to be true.

Wish I had bought the Ultra just for the FFLP tips. I didnt realize the Truecoat only used Truecoat tips. It's better than brushing and rolling for a smooth finish but isn't even comparable to a FFLP tip or even a x13 tip from my regular airless. Oh well, guess you live and learn and are just out $250. I wonder why they dont make a x13 tip for the Truecoat, or FFLP tips for it.

That Skillshare commercial was great thanks for the video but I got a big ass room to paint so I'll get the corded model plus a I have Milwaukee tools and I'm fed up with battery chargers.

I need to stain my log cabin, first time we hand brushed it all because it was the first staining. Which one of these would you recommend? Both corded and cordless. We used the Cabot's mahogany flame stain.

Good review...pretty much nailed all the good and bad points. I have an ultra and it does come in handy for smaller jobs. Overall, I think if these were a couple hundred bucks cheaper they would be worth the money. You would be better off buying a lower end airless from a box store or just rent one. One thing that wasn't touched on is if you have the unit that can spray flammable materials, you have to use a grounding cord or else you'll feel a shock while using it. That pretty much defeats the purpose of cordless convenience...you may as well buy the corded version.

The Ultra goes for about 650 these days. But, how long does the pump last ? At $200 a pop, this thing sounds like a money pit.
@eharding4725 Жыл бұрын
Add a comment... It is. one more thing that nobody seems to be mentioning is this guns pump was not designed for the long haul. Proof of that are the serviceable plastic ball springs that are not really serviceable. Whether it be a hex screw or Philips it doesn't matter. the pressure required to remove them will strip them. Same goes for the ball spring housing behind the tip. It's also made of plastic. There's no way to remove it without tearing it up.

I’ve used the ultra. Only complaint is cleanup with enamels. Jobs I’ve done take less time than cleaning the thing lol

FWIW, the Ultra handhelds are WAY easier and faster to clean than a traditional airless sprayer...way easier and way quicker. And you can basically do a good job cleaning it with about a gallon of water, as opposed to about 10 gallons in a traditional airless. Night and day.

It'd be interesting to know how loud this is compared to corded and other cordless models.

I just got my hands on a new Magnum x7 for $180. I've never used an airless sprayer and I didn't think about how much paint it would use. I'm going to have mostly small projects. Then I see this! I'm thinking maybe sell the x7 and put money toward one of these. Little torn about it though. I think this would be much less hassle than the x7. What say you? I own an escape room so mostly painting props and panels. Maybe have a need to paint a ceiling or room every once in a while but rarely an entire room.

I got one of these units over a year ago, and I'm pretty positive that both the TC Pro and Ultra are exactly the same unit (granted different labels). TC Pro is just the one sold at Home Depot (and maybe also other big box stores) and the Ultra sold elsewhere, like their own website, and other more specialty stores. I guess my point is that the Ultra is not really better built or anything like that, it should be the exact same unit from what I remember when doing my research. Yes, it is true that the tips are different, but that's probably really the only main difference. TC Pro was designed more as a pre-packaged unit and hence came with its own proprietary tips, where as the Ultra used the traditional ones. However, even then, I still thought you could interchange them regardless. But you can fact-check me on that very last comment, regarding interchangeability.

Great Vid. Could you tell which sprayer is better? The Ultra 17M363 or One of the Magnums 257025 262800 X5 262805 X7 In which of them can you spray a primer like Kilz? Thanks

I have the DSP 360 corded model. For small jobs, it will work just fine. I did use it to paint a ranch rail fence around my 2 acre yard. Ugh. Then I used it to help my son paint the exterior of his house. Double ugh. The clean up on this sprayer is a nightmare. Latex paint sticks like crazy, so get Goof Off to get as much dried paint off as possible. For small jobs, I much prefer my HVLP with a metal gun. Clean up is MUCH faster on the HVLP unit, hands down. Due to the amount of money I spent on the DSP 360, I'll keep using it, but I'll probably upgrade my HVLP system to a four stage unit, damnt he cost. I regret buying the Graco sprayer now...

Really good information. So, in the end, what is the recommendation on a paint sprayer to buy whether it be corded or cordless? Like you, I am just looking for small jobs, projects in my shop, small projects for outside the shop.

Great Review! Was thinking of buying this to paint my room but I guess not anymore! Plus I love your Rogue shirt!! Have you done any home gym review videos? Which Rogue Power Rack did you get?

Have you ever been to car wash. Pressure washer hose swings from ceiling. Easy fix to use corded sprayer and not dragging throught paint. Great video, i will never buy cordless for that price to have extra weight in my hand

Ahhh’…confused on final recommendation at 10:06 you don’t recommend….then later at 11:12 you recommend? So, is this clear yes or no for recommendation? Otherwise, great overall review!

I do recommend the sprayer but I actually recommend the other version (Ultra) versus the Tc Pro that I have. They are almost identical

Find it very temperamental. I’ve got the ultra max not Sure if I’m doing Something wrong. I prime then spray and I’m not sure if gets blocked quickly or what. Great when it actually works

Paint on the cord is the best selling point point. I would definitely end up getting paint on me, the floor, and everything else.

Hi. Id like your advice, please. I just invested in a house fixer upper. I'm to do small projects. Need to paint outside house, one or two rooms. I'm not a painter at all. But time is a thing. I'm looking for something compact, inexpensive, does a relatively good job, no overspray! Thanks in advance

Can you compare this in a reply to the corded version and longevity? What about DIY home improvement? Should you expect the corded version to last? Thanks.
