Getting ready to buy their Hedger next. I will never go back to gas power again. No more gas fumes, oil changes, spark plug changes, clogged carburetors, pulling cord to start, and lets not forget the way louder operation noise level either and the heavier weight of gas powered equipment. You say good bye to all of that when you buy EGO instead. Pop battery in and just press start. Start with their lawnmower first and you will be an instant believer of their products trust me !!!

The best cordless lawn mower comparison video out there. Not only did you cover a lot of categories but you included a wide array of manufacturers. A lot of comparisons would not have included products from Hart or B&D as the perception of those manufacturers is not as high as others like DeWalt and Makita. The average consumer of these products is driven by price. At the same time, they want to know if they're getting their money's worth. A video like this does them a great service by providing them with enough data to make an informed decision. Personally, I just purchased the Greenworks 40v 21" mower. It arrives in a few days so I haven't used it yet. When this video popped up on my feed, I had to watch. While the model I chose was not reviewed in this test, I am confident that I made a good choice with a Greenworks product. I can't wait to take for a spin. Thank you for all you do, Rob. Just bought the Ryobi 40V/6Ah battery mower yesterday. Besides getting used to having to release the self-propelled handle to turn the other big issue is that it's so light it literally pops wheelies while I'm mowing and I have to go back over that spot because it didn't cut it down low enough while the front wheels were lifted. I have a medium size yard and was able to cut the whole yard with one charge. I have St. Agustine grass but it's really dry and I had the mower up 2nd lowest height level and it went through it with no problems. I'm not sure how it would do if the grass was slightly wet as it normally is in the spring. It does also leave a few blades uncut here and there. I think I'll stick with it though. Much better than dealing with the odor of gasoline.

I'm not claiming it's the best on the market, because when we purchased it, there weren't a lot of choices for cordless mowers on the market, but it does a great job for what we use it for. I bought the Makita because it will last the longest and has amazing capabilities. Watched a ton of videos and came away with that conclusion! Bought one from Home Depot and couldn't be happier! It really is a BEAST like you mentioned! I cut a huge yard with 14" grass, and it did awesome! Went through 4 battery changes, but I think normal maintenance mowing it could be done with 2 battery changes. But with the 4 batteries it comes with, plus 2 I already had, I never had any downtime! The Makita is definitely made to last for MANY years and is an absolute joy to operate. Like you said toward the beginning, I was also amazed at how quiet it is!! With that much power? It seems impossible, but it's real!! I think they put more engineering into the Makita than the other mowers.

i liked it too but it has some principle problems starting with 18V design. Most other switched to 40V or higher due to the demand of more powerful tools but it is still stuck with this 18V (2 battery in series to get 36V is a bad usage, it will kill battery fast)

@stevenfjaxsen84644 жыл бұрын
Really? You let it get rained on constantly like that? Every video on that mower talks about how crucial it is to not allow the mower to get wet by cleaning it with a water hose because getting water in the mortar will destroy. In the instruction booklet it basically says on every page multiple times to not allow the mortar to get wet! And to not clean the mower with a water hose or pressure washer hose like at a car wash. Given that the vents for the motor are on the sides at the top of the mower right below where the battery open and close protector lid shuts makes it seem like what you are saying is either untrue or they over exaggerate greatly about water getting in the vents into the motor which will cause significant damage to the motor!

I don't understand how a mower which is the quietest, best built, long run time and "commercial design beast" with Makita's quality, OPE and tool options finished behind Black and Decker. It won more categories and finished 6th? Who cares that the handle doesn't fold. I prefer it doesn't and when I look at all the plastic parts on Ego and Greenworks, those WILL break. Plastic deck mowers are too light, steel deck mowers WILL rust. Makita offers an aluminum deck (DLM533Z, which is the mower that I have) and it will be around far longer than most if not all in the test. Same can be said about Makita's batteries and brushless motor. Also, there is a reason it doesn't have rubber on the handle, let's see how good the rubber overmold is on the Ego in three years. The other thing this review doesn't do is talk about batteries and chargers. I can mow non-stop using two batteries in the mower (5Ah) and by the time I deplete two, the other two on the charger are full. The last thing I will say is that the Makita is even MORE quiet in quiet mode. The Makita should have been number 1 or 2 in this review, certainly NOT 6.

My 2 cents: bought a country property a year ago and the prior owners had the greenworks mower/small chainsaw/ and pole saw combo. They left all to me as they downsized on property. Appreciated it very much as I wanted to see how the battery packs held up. I'm a construction contractor so I have a slew of battery operated tools of all kinds. The combo was bought 2.5 years prior to me owning it. Once the season of mowing started I got the mower out and the mower wouldn't recognize the batteries were installed. I can build and fix just about anything. Inspecting underneath the mower and one of the blades were missing, further inspection the shaft the blade attaches to was extremely wobbling and looked like the bearings the shaft attaches to were broken. I have a 4 year old Honda gas mower that is a beast. There was an old yard machine with Briggs and Stratton engine in the shed on the property that had not been ran in years. So derelict it had an inch of dirt accumulated in the gas tank. After cleaning it out, changing oil, and spark plug, it fired right up no problem. The greeworks mower is so light it feels like my kids toy, positive thing if it worked. The chainsaw is barely faster than using an axe. Haven't used the pole saw yet. The durability and longevity of this system is subpar. If you're on a 1/4 acre lot and a tiny yard then it may last but in my experience, it's garbage. The push to get rid of combustion engines and manufacturers trying to put out ill engineered machines is just not there yet. My gas powered Honda mower is a Cadillac compared to the rinky dinky greenworks 90% plastic "toy."

One big consideration people should look at if they're not already buying based on existing battery platform, is the weight of the mower. In this comparison there's a 40ish pound spread among the models. I could see some people buying and thinking it'll fold up nice to hang on a garage/shed wall, then having to wrestle it like a 80lb bag of concrete.

I bought an Ego LM2125SP the other day. I love everything about it. The convenience of not having to check/change/fill oil. Not having to store gas, add fuel stabilizer, and worry about bad gas by the end of the cutting season. It folds up compactly in my little 10x10 shed. Drop the battery in and start cutting. The self-propelled controls are nice and easy to use without having to really think about it. The quality of the cut is great (single blade model here) and I can cut my grass on my lot 3-4 times if needed on one charge of the 7.5AH battery. This is my first self propelled mower and I am sure the extra money spent will be well worth it once the Louisiana summer heat kicks in any day now. I love it so much, I am going back to Lowes this morning to pick up an Ego trimmer and blower. My mom and my sister each have a Kobalt push mower and neither have had any problems with them. They seem to be very capable machines.

I use my EGO Self-Propelled as a push mower a large percentage of the time. It's indistinguishable from a push mower and gains a ton of run time. I only use self propel up my steep sections, and to start and awkward turn around. There's no "need" to use the self propel all the time.

Is the ego worth it? It’s looking like the best one IMO.
@EricLS3 жыл бұрын
@@karkitty202 it’s great. Is it THE BEST? Dunno. The one thing I will say is that their battery design is superb. The charger has a fan that the pulls air through hundreds of holes in the battery to cool all the cells individually. The older batteries tended not to have a fuel gauge on them just a green or red light which is kind of a bummer, but most of the new ones have the gauge on them. I think the only thing about these battery powered mowers is they use fairly lightweight low lift blades, so don’t have as much vacuum to lift grass as a gas mower, that said you can get a high lift blade.

I just bought a makita dux60 cordless with a trimmer attachment. I was skeptical for 6 months. I use a 4 stroke 30cc trimmer and love the power of that thing. Makita says the dux60 at full power is equal to my 30cc. Yeah right, maybe for 5 min. I kept seeing vids on my feed and started watching them. Well, my yard got over grown. I ordered it, ups took over a week to get here. The weeds were over 2 feet high and thick. The batteries take a while to charge. It came with two 5 ah batteries and I had two 4 ah for my drill that's about two years old. The power is just like using my 30cc. With the 2 sets. I'm able to go almost non stop. By far the best way to go. I will be ordering the lawnmower next. I wish you guys reviewed the makita lineup. I'm really impressed with their system.

What a good video! It is absolutely necessary to listen to this video BEFORE buying a mower. I would add that Tool Box Buzz is with Project Farm a must BEFORE any purchase of tools or work accessories. For my part, the motorized function of the propulsion is really not necessary and will automatically give greater autonomy to the mower. Also, it is really no longer necessary to have a gas mower for a good mowing. Greenworks will make significant profits in future years with the price of gas skyrocketing, although that is not such a big factor. I would say the noise is more... Well done Tool Box Buzz!!!

*** CORRECTION ** EGO tied for the best mower with the 21" Greenworks mower. Third place went to the 25" Greenworks and Black and Decker coming in 6-points behind the top two mowers. A subscriber pointed out an error in one of the calculated values. When we recalculated the battery voltage the Greenworks did better on an Sq ft/ watt hr basis. That’s why it moved up to a tie.
@ElectricIguana4 жыл бұрын
Great effort overall on the head-to-head! Respectfully, however, I think there are some significant errors with the Greenworks 21" evaluation. Especially your "best value" recommendation for the GW21. "Best value" was stated as being based on a $350 price tag with a 4 AH battery. Price is incorrect and the rankings were based on 9AH worth of batteries. First, the price quoted for the Greenworks 21" is incorrect. It was quoted at $350 with a 4AH battery verbally (21:45), but the screen shot clearly says $450 (accurate). From the website (at time of publication), this year's model is not available for less than $380 in the Tool Only version. Still not a bad value relatively, but it's definitely not the "2nd lease expensive". For only $50 more, the 25" is available with 6AH worth of batteries (4+2), however this may only be a temporary holiday sale price (7/7/2020). A strong case could be made for the Black and Decker at it's price point. On top of that, Greenworks does NOT offer a 5.0+4.0 battery package with this year's 21" model, which was what was used for the Watt Hours calculation (10:30). GW21 was given 3rd place in that category based on batteries that are not included with the mower (12:35). And it is certainly not available with those batteries at either of the prices quoted verbally or on-screen.

Despite what their marketing claims, battery mowers have nowhere near the same power as gas mowers. They are about 2.5 HP tops, or half of an entry level gas mower. They make up for this a bit with torque and by using smaller blades, but you still need HP to do work.

Beginning of this year Lowes had the Kobalt on sale. Add another 10% off with veterans discount I paid $250 out the door for the 40v push mower. I chose the push mower because of the weight, even with a steel deck it weighs nothing compared to a gas mower and I walk faster than the maximum speed on the self propelled. I have a medium sized yard and the large 5 mili amp hour battery only uses about 50% to mow front and back. I bought the weed eater off Amazon minus a battery and am able to mow and weed eat on one battery charge. I think you should have pointed out the mowers with plastic decks and dinged those some points, plastic gets brittle over time and I don't see any of those being around a long time. I also like that the kobalt senses the thickness of what you are mowing and auto adjusts the speed of the blade to match your cutting conditions. I think that is something else that should have been pointed out.
