Great video! I wish you would talk more about part shade plants. Thanks
@shesamadgardener2 сағат бұрын
I can do some of that, I don’t have a lot of experience with part shade as most of my garden is full sun.

My Gaura does so well but sometimes they succumb to aphids. Taller varieties do better away from foot traffic as they can almost trip you. Pink muhly grass same thing. Those strappy stems can get in the way but the way they move in the wind is a favorite of my husband.

I loved this video and took so many notes. I’m in Austin and I’ve been wanting to grow hydrangeas, but I’ve heard that they don’t do well here because of all the limestone. I’m hoping to try out one of the ones you suggested to see if I can have some success.
@shesamadgardener2 сағат бұрын
Good luck! Hydrangeas can be finicky, but there are some that can tolerate our Texas climate. Also consider growing one in a container if you want to control the soil!

I’m not sure why but I have struggled with Shasta daisy. I’m zone 8a NC. The salvia is a definite to grow here in the heat of NC.

I have the same experience with Shasta daisies, and I am in the same area with Amanda.
@shesamadgardener2 сағат бұрын
Shasta daisies will need full sun and well draining soil … they can struggle if the soil doesn’t drain away well.

Also very interested in everything you have to say about heirloom chrysanthemums! I definitely want to give those a try. Looking like Bluestone is a good place to order…?

Managed to note all these down. Hoping your zone 8 in TX is same as my zone 8 in AL. Do you buy plants or seeds? Moving away from annuals (seeds)to perennials (would prefer plants) so this is perfect timing. Thank you!

I’m still digging out my knockout roses. I had 15. Ten are gone, roots and all. They got the Red Rose Rosette disease. And I am working on removing the other 5. At $35 each - that’s a devastating loss. I bought them from various places. They were less than 4 years old. And now my cottage looking garden has big empty spaces. But now I can plant newer things and in another 6 months replant roses.
@shesamadgardener2 сағат бұрын
I am so sorry to hear about your rose bushes. Hopefully, you can get those spaces filled quickly with new plants but I know that can also take some time budget wise.

Another great video. Does yarrow have to be cold stratified? I have tried twice to grow this from seed but nothing germinated! I grew them indoors under lights. I live in the low AZ desert
@serenacarrillo99 сағат бұрын
I’m in the low NM desert and had the most luck with winter sowing Colorado mix and flowerburst fruitbowl yarrow from Baker Creek. After the first year, mine self seeded quite a bit.
@shesamadgardener2 сағат бұрын
You can cold stratify yarrow for up to a month, but they don’t require it … but you might get better germination!

@shesamadgardener2 сағат бұрын
For something like that I would consider mixing a couple of vines … I have a Don Juan rose and a Jackmanii Clematis that grow together. Or you consider something like a cross vine.
