Today we check out the extremely dark and dissonant E5(#11) chord - we could also see it as an Em(addb5) chord missing the minor third G - in this case, would see A# as Bb (diminished fifth). Hope you can use this one for your music! :)

Bernth! I think it would be a nice idea if you could potentially host an AMA when you hit a milestone. It would be great to understand your own inspirations, favorite pickups, equipment, & guitarists, funny stories, and cool trivia.

I've been taking your 10 steps to modern shredding course and thanks to that I know exactly what you mean in this video. I always struggled with chords the most since there was more emphasis on remembering different shapes rather than explain how they are made, thanks to this I've been able to explore and find my own voicings I like. You have a great way of explaining theory along with practical examples and always look forward to the next lesson. Thank you :D

So I am guilty of going back and forth between Bernth and Ben Eller. Ben Eller is great for less "metal-y" theory and good Johnson, Bonamassa, etc...style playing. But Bernth has some bada** chord phrasings and ideas how to spice up my harmonic minors and Phrygian doms....thanks for the great channel Bernth!!!

Great Video lesson Bernth! I love learning theory as an analytical person! If you do more theory lessons with learning how to form all colors of chords in various positions along with phrasing ideas to accompany and arpeggio shapes I'd be interested in becoming a patron! I really want to learn more about extended chords and how to form them! So if you decide to do this then I'm in full support! Thanks for all you do and look forward to new videos! Adam

Hi Bernth, I like strange and dark chords that I can apply them to scenes of outer space or planets and planet surfaces like you would see on a show like KZbin, NASA, Nova! Any show, or videos that shows those amazing video of deep space, planets, stars, black holes and so on! Someone needs to put some amazing guitar to that stuff! All so, I've found some video on KZbin that have shown some of these planets, that have the frequency of what the planet is putting off, when the Voyager probe pick up as it was making a pass near the planets in our solar system! Just amazing! But like I said, it would be so cool to come up with guitar chords and licks that best fet that scene, or that action! Kind of like an orchestra would compose a piece in a Star Wars movie or something! Well anyway you really go me to thinking on this lesson, thanks! Thanks Again Bernth! See you next time! Todd P./USA

Again, awesome lesson and would love more chord theory lessons from you!

Hey... Just became a patreon.. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm missing.. how or where do I start out making chords from scales. Like for example. Just the basic question here, let's say I have an e minor scale... How in the world would you make a chord.. I just don't get in general how a scale turns into a chord.. I'm very lost on this topic and I can't learn anything else until I get this.

I see it fits diatonically in Harmonic minor as a 6th chord, or as the 4th chord in any Co5ths key. Of course one can always hammer it into anything if it sounds acceptible and is accounted for. :)
