Best defense gen pairings in Evony! (sept 2022)

It's just insane the amount of cash (or time) one has to invest in just 1 general to make make them worth even using!!! Runestones, Blood of Ares, Gems, civ gears. Refines, etc.... I dumped close to $2,000 just to build half a Marshal, and that's not even considering the cost of specializing your assistant. Kinda makes me wish I just left my build at the ghosting level so I don't have to worry about defense 😅 at K36 you could easily ghost 1.4B power worth of troops using march size increases and Monarch Gears

Yeah it's crazy expensive, but you can just keep trying to improve it. You don't have to do it all at once.

I am a ghost keep for this reason. I still score consistently high in BOC and SVS. I also swapped my money trap generals for the free ones. I’m only building up free generals and I’ve had excellent luck and an amazing return by choosing this option. Don’t waste money on all these new generals that are basically all the same.

I am sure that only part of their skill works as an assistant the part that says “as a wall general” won’t work so I think you have to choose a main gen then assistant to compliment (not a wall gen) the skill will be gold but not with the light up bit

No, it doesn't work. The skill book will glow gold if the buffals are active. Put them as assistant and it will not glow

I have Leo III and Petronas as my wall defense generals. Then have the your defense with just siege weapons.

You could also pair Leo 3 as main and Leo 1 as assistant

I think Zac Taylor is better for early game less than 1.5 to 2b keeps in alliances not using much seige yet. Just me I have never had seige used against me in battlefield or svs. Most scouts I get the opponents don't even 500k seige layers. Paired with Leonidas or William marshal. It would also be really awesome if evony would release wall gen presets at least 2. And I guess they would probably make 3 and lock it behind VIP. But 2 is all I would need.

Siege is very important on defense (much more important than archers typically), so if you haven't built out siege layers, I would recommend doing it (even if people aren't attacking you with siege). It helps protect you somewhat from archer and mount hits. Wall gen presets would be great (but would also mean you have to have more gear/gens built up lol)

I don’t agree with this video. Most of your content has been spot on but this one I disagree with. For one, you only informed of what you use and why but didn’t really go into other pairings as to why not those. Depending on your set up will greatly determine your needs for defense. My personal set up is focused on all around defense. That being said I use Marshall as my main with either oda, yi-sun, or leonidas. I also switch up my assistant gen depending on what I’m up against. Like for svs match ups I notice a lot of the top players have their best gens being ground, I’d set up my assistant to have mounted buffs so I’d use queen Boudica. Just as an example. I’ve tried NUMEROUS pairings and I’m still experimenting with combinations and testing buff percentages to figure which is the best overall defensive set up but that’s what I go for. I think your set up is good as well but is missing mounted buffs as well as ranged buffs. Seems you like to focus siege and ground a lot more. Which is understandable because when defending that’s usually what gets the most kills.

Defense is honestly the harder part of the game at this point. I was basically putting my opinions on who I thought had the best ascensions and paired together, but my opinions are biased for larger players taking rallies. It's a whole different ball game for solos, smaller rallies, etc. If you know what you're up against, switching to counter that is always going to be your best play. I personally haven't seen mount/archer attack having as much impact on defense, so yes I try to focus on siege (all around) and ground (countering archer rallies) for defense. I know some people use boudica as their main gen to try to get additional mount hp buffs (she's also easy to ascend). Thanks for watching!

I have to agree with him, def is great but when getting further along you'll find is hard to get until you k38 or higher. Even with a full kroyo set on your wall gen hp will still be an issue. You can have great def numbers but if your troops don't have the hp to survive its going to be hard to stay alive. I personally use Marshall and sun-sin. I'm also only a k36 but with maxed tech and MA 1 complete I'm still not getting over 750 hp even with using 50s. I also get where you're coming from as def in this game is severely lacking and everyone is doing there best to figure out a good def strategy. Lol kind wish it was like the good ole gow days before all the beasts and what not when you could single or double kunai and just heal a brick or 2 lol.

Slightly off topic but I’m having a problem adding a assistant to Simeon any thoughts on this ? Have heard minamoto can assist but when I tried do this the yellow box is greyed out …. Don’t want to switch to elektra as knowing evony at some point they will release strong gen that can assist simeon or that’s what I think lol 😂 help

Simeon is a bit difficult, I have alfred and I'm in a similar situation... elektra fragments also aren't THAT easy to get. I use winfield scott with alfred, you can try him. I also think they will release better pairings so I haven't invested in any specialties

Interesting that people would use Basil as a def assistant. I wouldn't recommend since only the first part of his skill applies (ground and mount atk 30%) when defending. I think if you wanted to go hard ground def gens, you could use trajan as an assistant or maybe robert the bruce? Basil is a great ground attack gen (and can be paired with Elise making him a premo gen)

Keep what you have, you've invested in marshal and he's a great gen. The difference between those three is pretty minor

Skill books vary a bit based on your size and how you're built, but I would say siege atk range, archer atk range, mount hp, siege atk are pretty standard. Then you can choose between ground atk, ground def, archer atk, mount def, ground speed, siege hp/def (if you are defending against siege a lot).

I have to make my own youtube channel. Most of you guys are 1 billion and up . i will speak for the little guy. The small players that have amazing skills. ….I suggest beginners and low or free tp play focus on 1 or 2 troop types at most . I would not recommend siege or ground to anybody. They will come later . First growth

Typically people start pvping with archers, so makes the most sense to build that gen first (after the wall gen). I don't think anyone is suggesting to try to build all your gens/buffs at the same time, but once you progress in the game you will absolutely need all 4 types

That gets into a bit of how you're built. I think Leonidas' ascension is a bit better, but leo 3 (and Marshal) are a bit more well rounded

Hi interesting reasoning behind having Leonidas as your main but just wondering why you don’t think Marshall performs just as well if not better as a main general? To me I think Leonidas performs better as an assistant solely because he’s too specialized in ground which we know is very vulnerable to cavs. Marshall doesn’t have this problem when fully ascended so having him as the main and choosing or rotating between Leonidas, Leo III and Yodo as assistant (whether you prefer Ground, Siege or Range focus) is a more ideal situation.

It really depends on your size. When you get to be a decent size, getting soloed/rallied by mounts doesn't usually do too well unless a lot of your archers are dead. Marshal is a pretty solid def gen. If you've ascended him, I don't see a reason to switch. I just think Leonidas and Leo III's ascending buffs are better than Marshal's by a bit.

I seen on a baby bear video that they did apply, not if they are the same though. Still to test myself but she was definitely getting buffs from ascension skills in her reports. The wording in the info is terrible but seems to say skills will work when they are not the same.. check baby bears vid on using drag required skills on assistants
