The neurological problems are the worst. They have been bred with small skulls, but their brains still grow normally. When their brains become squeezed, they will have immense pain, seizures, and trouble walking. They live horrible, short lives. And the breeders don't always know if their puppies have that problem if they don't see them as adults.

Exactly. But they also live with constant migraines because their skulls are too small for their brains. As lovely as they are, it’s actually animal cruelty to breed with these kinds of dogs. As long as we keep buying these dogs, breeders will inbreed them more and more. If you really love dogs, then don’t buy one of these.

Nooooooo! Will, this is the first time I can recall disagreeing with you! I love CK spaniels too, BUT they are a genetic mess. Until the breed undergoes some outcrossing to reduce the incidence of the *horrible* diseases they're prone to, I could never recommend this breed to my clients. 💕🐶

I was just going to add that comment! Shocking health issues. Even when health testing parents it's a lottery as most issues in them develop from 5 years of age, so if parents are health tested and bred from before 5 years then there is no way to give any kind of reassurance whatsoever. I'd love one as far as temperament is concerned, but will never get one

As a mother of a handsome little 2 year old cavalier, I can 100% attest to this. There's just some precautions you have to take. 1: a LOT of scammers trying to "sell" this breed. Be wary of anyone trying to sell them for less than $1500. 2: A reputable breeder is IMPORTANT. Unless you feel like contributing to unhealthy breeding of this breed, or want a cavalier with horrid health problems, that lead it to die at only a few years of age, make SURE you find a good breeder, ask for paperwork on both parent dogs, as well as testing results, because a good breeder always has that information on hand, and will gladly to give it to you. 3: you may need to travel. Good breeders are spread out, be prepared to travel maybe HOURS to meet your little bundle. I drove 4 hours into Iowa for mine, and it was WORTH IT! Head my warnings, and you'll have the most incredible best friend you could ask for. ❤

@Just_Being_Honest I'm not entirely sure tbh, I read one comment that said their skulls are sometimes too small for their brains, causing severe pain and neurological problems I think I've heard that they often have problems with their hearts too, but don't quote me on that. I just know that it's generally an overbred dog breed so if you consider getting one you should do some diligent research, both into the breed's health issues and in finding a good breeder with healthy dogs if you're not thinking about adopting from a shelter.

My standard is the most energetic dog (maybe a little too intense too) I’ve ever seen! She will play with anything that moves (kitties do not approve of her tho and she has no idea why). She is a little theif tho and will take food, stuffed animals, and anything left out on the open if she wants attention but isn’t getting enough lol. The only real problems with other dogs is the fact she doesn’t seem to understand doggy social cues (honestly same) and will keep trying to play (wagging her tail, bowing, barking, running in circles, etc) even if a dog clearly doesn’t want to :(

They are very good with children😉 All dogs need exercise, but I don't feel like Icelandic sheepdogs need more than others. The one we had when I was a child, was not walked so often. We live on the country side, so we would just open the door so she could go out and do what she need to do. The two I have now I usely walk every day and depending on the weather we wil walk between 2-5 km. But they don't act up if they are not walked. Beside, both of them think they are going to melt if it is raining 🤣 How ever, I have worked for a woman in Iceland who bread Icelandic sheepdogs and they where not activated on a daily basis. And when she did activat them, it was teaching them how to stand for shows. I also know that elderly people sometimes buy thise dogs, because they are so calm and they are being use for therapy dogs as well. So of course they need some exercise like all other dogs, but you don't have to run 10 km with them to get them to relax. A small walk can be just as good especially if they meet other dogs😉

I have a king charles spaniel which is very similar in description and looks and she’s the sweetest most gentle dog i’ve ever met. The way she slowly takes the treat out of your hand is actually so bizarre because she’s THAT gentle with it. She is great with humans and children and knows when to stop being playful if someone’s scared. But she’s not great with most dogs at all, it’s either that or they’re very close and love each other. She’s so dumb yet smart at the same time which is hilarious 😂. However, she has an irrational fear of pigeons and seagulls which makes her bark a lot. another thing about these types of dogs is that they are very likely to have separation anxiety from their owners since they’re so affectionate and loyal to them. i’m not sure why i’m saying this rant but i hope it gives you some insight of what these type of dogs are like, obviously not all of them will behave exactly like mine but most of the time they’re very similar ❤ thanks for reading !

When I was a toddler and my younger sister barely more than an infant, we'd open her mouth and count her teeth. We were mostly out of sight of any adults, though perfectly audible to everyone there, and there wasn't the slightest worry that anything would happen. And they were right - her only reaction was a furiously wagging tail, as she basked in the attention. She died aged 16, when I was 17, and I'll miss her till the day I die.

I was definitely expecting a lab to be on the list. All my life I’ve grown up around labs and so has my mum. They’re super sweet and with the correct training can be great and fun dogs to have around. Personally, we’ve never had any trouble with labs and even when me and my brother were babies/little, we’ve never had a problem with them hurting us so definitely a great dog!

Toy poodle..........smartest dog I have ever owned. You can point at things and they will bring it too you. They learn at an amazing rate. They still learn as they get older. Excellent Gard dog and Mouser. I had no idea.

NEWFOUNDLAND!!!! My first thought as well! That was our first dog and he was the absolute BEST. The sweetest boy, I only questioned if he was going to pick the breed due to maintenance on their coat… and slobber 😂 but still an extremely small price to pay for such a great dog

I have a Newfoundland. He is wonderful... and I never wanted a dog before him. He protects my children and myself simply by putting his body in front of us. Loving and sweet and rarely barks. I got a Newfi partly because you recommended it. I'm so glad I did.

If I didn’t find my pit I was gonna look for a Charlie. But when I met my guy I knew he was it! He might be 90lbs of pure intimidation but he has the personality of a King Charles. I got the best of both worlds. Don’t know how he ended up in the shelter but I thank god he did! He is the dog I always wanted! It’s been 1.5 years and I can not say one bad thing about him. He is just so well behaved and trained. He trust me and I trust him. We have a bond that is unbelievable.

My first dog is a Cavachon a hybrid of a King Charles Spaniel and a Bischon Frise. He's very sweet, very chill and loyal. He doesn't even need a leash he follows me everywhere. I have never heard him growl since he was a puppy. Currently he is 16 years old and very healthy for his age.

We have been graced with the honor of a Toffee, she's a lab/retriever and she's amazing. The most chill dog ever even as a puppy. Important not to over feed them, she developed 2 lumps we needed to remove cause my Dad kept giving her food from his dinners. I finally got him to stop and she's a healthy and happy 14yr old. They are very special dogs. And for those wanting a dog to feel safe... they're a great choice, she's got a very powerful bark when people come to the door. They're the best all rounder dog I've ever come across. I cuddle with her every night, don't know what I'll do without her ❤ They shed alot but it's beyond worth it 😅

I know everyone's going on about the Cavies. However, it worth mentioning (and I speak from experience, I've groomed one of them) Newfoundland coats can be difficult to keep and need lots of brushing and grooming. Everything else about them is spot on.

My cousins adopted a CK spaniel and he was HUGE for his age. They don’t think he was treated very well and he didn’t respond very well to a lot of adults outside the family. As I got older, he definitely got more frightened of me. He was such a sweetheart though, I don’t remember him ever growling. He always used to just run off.

the first three dogs i had were a golden retriever, a border collie and a Germanischer bärenhund. definitely wouldn't recommend the latter two for anyone without a farm and lots of work for the dogs to do. since then, i've mostly had golden retrievers, however i am looking at getting another bärenhund. no need for a border collie since i don't have enough sheep anymore to warrant all the work i would have to put in. great video, and i can tell you're someone who really knows and loves dogs.

I just got my first newf. I’m an experienced dog handler and trainer. So far I do love her. She’s been really quick to train compared to hounds and pointers I’ve had. Definitely different than the shepherds and most guardian breeds I’ve worked with. Unfortunately, life span isn’t great with poorly bred newfs. I’ve also seen a lot of dysplasia in labs, both working and show lines due to backyard breeding. I think someone interested in these breeds should do their research and better the breed in the future. Love your channel!
