I agree I'm training our 12 week pup but when I work my family isn't as stern with their commands and training is basically done at a minimum lol so when I get back the pup forgets or doesn't obey them and listens to me only so it's a huge issue rn trying to train her and she's a siberian husky which already tells u she's stubborn to begin with 😆

I gta find a new method and maybe get her with other dogs cause she's just not getting it to not bite. She bites soft then hard so gta find something else or another way to get her to stop. She won't even go for her toys either.

This is such a relief to read. My springerdale (patterdale x springer spaniel) is biting hard. When we walk past her or when we are playing, worse with my kids and partner as I am the one who trains her so I'm worried she doesn't respect them but she is only 8 weeks old. Definitely going to try this. I need a collar first though. Only had her a few days x
@obkook7205

@@rebeccawilliams2410 A spray bottle might also do the trick, but Will's idea of the quick "chhht" with a little jolt on the pup is a similar tactic. Both have worked tremendously in my opinion. It seems to be about timing (getting it right at the site of biting/nipping) and being firm and consistent. My puppy got it real quick that this behavior wasn't acceptable.

Brandon mcmillan is the most gentle, thorough and effective dog i've ever encountered. My friend and i love the dog show and never miss it. So many times we've shed a tear of happiness just seeing a dog's life changed forever when proper training is applied and they go on to live their lives the way they should. I have brandon's book kzbin.infoUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq in two formats. Not only the paperback version but also the kindle version to refer to when i don't have the paperback along with me. I have used his methods with my cavalier kc spaniel and turned a non-disciplined furbaby into a companion who has traveled thousands of miles with us across the country. He is a near perfect dog thanks to brandon's methods. I don't get one cent of kickback for recommending brandon but i do it because i love dogs. They deserve to be given a chance. Brandon's mission in life - to rescue dogs and place them in a forever, happy home - is very dear to my heart. I recommend his methods to anyone who has a dog - young or old. I've seen him take even old dogs and teach them. Brandon was an animal trainer before his current mission. His parents were animal trainers. His methods are the best i've ever found. Your furbaby will thank you for spending the money on this book. Don't hesitate - it is worth every cent.

Within moments, my 7-month-0ld border collie/pit mix understood the hissing sound and slight touch to startle him into paying attention followed by redirecting the biting and giving him a chewy rope and finally reinforcing that same behavior by rewarding him with treats. The steps lowered anxiety for both of us, Thank you. I'll continue watching.

You might have a dog like mine who does react to the correction negatively or your sees it as a game because your timing isn't right. This worked for me: I had a fenced puppyproof area in the house. I would come to her and play, she would become overexcited and when she bit me, I did a vocal correction and left the fenced area... 3 minutes later I would try again. Whenever she bites on clothes, i correct and than redirect to a toy and praise heavily. Within 3 days we removed puppybiting for 99%.

Question. Did she get worse and then get better? I tried in my puppies crate she bit me then if correct. When she wasn’t biting my hand in front of her I gave her many treats. But outside of the crate she reacts like I’m attacking her. Wont even acknowledge her toys because she’s out for blood. I’m questioning myself bc I don’t want to make her fearful or aggressive

However my brother has had hip replacement surgery and a slew of problems So while he goes on vacation I watch his dogs because they love me however little miss has a jumping problem and a biting problem. As a rising vet assistant and someone who hopes to open a rescue. You're a hero for the small things you teach. I'm humble to learn dog tactics and redirects. Such a great system in officially testing this tomorrow. Admittedly they have a huge anxiety issue and poop and pee in the house. Perfect timing, Will. My 12-month Lab-Shepherd (who has suddenly has become very bold, cocky, over-confident, and inclined to challenge my directions) has also started grabbing at my trouser cuffs. When I tell her to sit she "talks back" at me and tries to grab my hands. I have been re-directing with "sit, stay" etc. But I see by your video it's better to re-direct with a toy.

My boxer mix is like that. He is grabbing anything he can, and he wants to play tug of war...he pulls back as strongly as he can. If we walk away he runs after us grabbing legs or feet. If we offer a toy, mostly he ignores it, as it's not that much fun. Probably my timing was never right with the correction. I want to play with him, as I feel that's when he is happiest. Now I just feel I try to avoid any kind of playing, as he will get so overexcited and demanding in the play that it always ends up in biting. I'm sure we did a lot of mistakes in the first week and he believes now that this is the whole game. That's how he gets us to interact for sure at 12 o clock at night.

@theMole I'm in the same boat.. I try the redirect and she ignores the toys and goes after my hands and feet still. So I try the sit command and give her treats (her regular food) and then she goes after where the food is. And it's non stop sit command til I'm tired cuz she won't play with the toys anymore 🤦🏻‍♀️

Great advice for puppies. I always did similar stuff. I can attest to it being very effective with varying intensity. Like you said, timing is everything. You have to correct immediately. The worst thing is to correct too late and then the dog will get nervous and confused, not knowing what is being corrected. You are the best. A lot of dogs will be better because of you. The thing I don't know how to fix is when the dog is older and was never fixed as a puppy and the biting is much too painful and can be dangerous with certain dogs. Do you have a video for adults that are much more aggressive, not attacking, but very hard to control.

Great video! My girls really want a golden retriever puppy. I’ve been researching the breed a ton. I am afraid of the puppy biting stage because I have a lot of health issues and I don’t want to get injured. This video is super helpful and giving me some confidence that I’d be able to handle a pup with good training.

Great advise as usual. Love to watch your training methods. I would really like to see a training method for a particular dog breed which is slightly different from other dog breeds. The Basenji is considered as very hard to train and can be one of the most destructive when it comes to chewing and biting. In several surveys the basenji is listed as the second to last when it comes to obedience/training. Therefore I really think that you should dedicate a training method when it comes to this unique and different dog breed.

I love this. Only thing I've done differently is to not correct at the leas sign of mouthing, only when they use their mouth any other way than super gently. I like it better because they learn exactly what hurts and how to be gentle with their mouths at all time. For dogs with big wide and strong mouths it seems safer in the long run. It's ok to use your mouth on occasion when that's all you got instead of hands but never with pressure or nipping. Although this is a big puppy, better to start early. With tiny puppies yelping when mouth gets anything but gentle usually suffices as both correction and surprize. Puppies teach each other that way too. Love your channel.

I’m very thankful to find your channel and I’m hoping to get some answers about about our 22 month old female rottie. We rescued her 6 months ago and I’ve been working on training her but the one thing I cannot change is her bitting. It’s not puppy mouthing but it’s a quick reaction when hands go near her when we’re playing or correcting. She has bit all of us including our 7 year old boy. This dog is smart and sweet and I’m at a loss on how to stop this behavior.

Honestly, thanks for the reminder that I don't want to go through this again. I just finally accepted that I can't afford to have the breed of dog that I want and was feeling bad about it. Remembering how much I hate puppy biting and hyper disrespectful behavior like the dog in the video makes me feel better. Call it sour grapes. But if I can't have the dog anyway, I might as well remember how horrible puppyhood sometimes is.

Which collar do you recommend for a German shepherd who’s about a year years old who has all the problems? You have many options and idk what to pick. He jumps, doesn’t pay attention when walking and pulls, and I also tried doing the sound when he bites but he doesn’t listen. He’s so hyper. Idk what to do with him. Worst problem is he barks at everyone and tries to attack them.

I have been watching your videos after my wife sent one to me about puppies pulling on leads. I have found a lot of your tips to be helpful, however I am still having an issue with my puppy. He is mostly over the play biting, but has begun to actively bite at us when he we do something like try to direct him inside or try to get him to stop chewing on something he has found around the house. I feel like most of the time it happens he is trying to tell me something, but I am having trouble identifying exactly what it is. I don't want to start just getting him things when he bites because I don't want to encourage it, but not sure what else I can try to correct this behavior. I am sure there is something I am not doing correctly and it isn't his fault, we just want to correct it while he is still young. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
