Back in the 70's when I was in my 20's, I always wanted a Cartier Tank but couldn't afford it. Instead, I bought a Seiko quartz ala Tank style. Fast forward a decade or so, I was able to buy the real Cartier Tank. Eventually I sold the Cartier and purchased a JLC Reverso. Today, I still own that Seiko Tank and it works fine albeit with a new battery every so often. By the way, Reverso and two-tone Datejust are my go-to dress watches.

I have SUP880. I only go to a few football events a year, like 2-3. I got it before it blew up for less than $100! Upgraded the strap- always gets compliments 😁

Seiko solar tank is what got me into watches. I actually bought a cartier tank and ended up giving it to my mother for safe keeping. It just felt silly wearing a 5k watch when there’s a $200 one that makes me 90% as happy.

If I set aside my laziness enough to put on a dress watch, I want it to have the right time (and date, if it displays that) and not need winding. Quartz. Possibly radio control. But I have only one good suit nowadays, so… no dress watch? Smooth sweep: Bulova Precisionist? That’s cheating of course.

If you like Seiko and made in Japan, please have a look at KUOE as well. They are a microbrand in Kyoto and make beautiful and affordable watches. And I have been told everything in made in Japan, including the glass and movement. That's pretty sweet if you ask me.

Just got a Seiko Tank (SWR064), and I love it. It's different from the SUP version, it's not a solar movement but also don't have to see "solar" printed on the dial, gold tone dial, stick indicies instead of roman numerals, 28mm. It's just about perfect.

I got my groomsmen the little Seiko tanks (quartz, with better dimensions) and they are actually stoked on them. Those look super classy in the metal, especially the way the little gold markers catch the light.

I had a Le Locle, it was nice looking, but the strap was very stiff and uncomfortable. The watch was also too thick to fit under my sleeve as well, so I ended up selling it and buying a Frederique Constant day-date quartz. I ran into the strap issue once again, but the watch is great otherwise.

I say Le Locle the same way, lol. I like everything about them except most don't have color matched date wheels. blech. But since I scored a Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium in the silver dial and brown leather strap for $370, I'm good with Tissot, for now...

I’d personally like to disagree as it cost prohibitive and segregates a lot of good value watches (like the ones recommended in this video). But I’m a little torn as I like to conform (a little) to old world dress codes.
