Thanks for the video but there are a few glaring mistakes when it comes to Nikon. 1st, Nikon has a MASSIVE range of lenses. In fact, they are renowned in the photography world for being able to put a lot of manual lenses from the 70's and 80s straight on to modern bodies without hassles (if you focus manually). This is unlike Canon who have changed their mounting systems quite a few times, meaning more adapters. Secondly, Nikon are better than Canon when it comes to dynamic range. Again, they are well known for trouncing Canon in this area. When it comes to Canon and Panasonic vs Sony, you should mention that the latter two have a bigger range of cameras with fully articulating screens. Much better for filming yourself vlog-style or shooting above your head like you may do in a crowd in a concert or just want to film something from a different angle. I'm a fan of Sony but it frustrates me they only do the tilting lcds for most of their serious cameras.

I use Panasonic because you can record up to 4k 30fps at UNDER $500! The camera I'm talking about is the Panasonic G7 14-42mm lens and its SO worth it! (I use the G85 cause it has IBIS)

My Nikon D750 with Sigma Art 35MM is an awesome combo for video. It shoots great in low light and I can shoot 60fps. Also I will mention I can see the audio levels while recording. Recently the price has been cut about $500 CDN from when I bought about a year ago. I good cheaper option especially if you already have Nikon glass.

I shoot Nikon. I went with Nikon in the beginning because of name recognition. I stayed with it because of my investment in glass. I'm satisfied with my D7500 but if I had to start over... I'd shoot Panasonic.
@jcaoutdoors7 жыл бұрын
I don't necessarily agree with some of the stuff he's saying. Nikon are usually not the cheaper camera. Usually they're more expensive especially when compared straight across to the competition. Also the video options are actually great and I've had mine for 2 years and still not used everything I could be using. The lenses options are also limitless. I chose Nikon for not only the image quality and overwhelming sharpness when compared straight across brand lines but also the number of lenses- both Nikon and other brands- that were offered when compared to other camera's having way less. Just not sure all this info is accurate.

I have a Nikon D3500 and I would say, go for Nikon, Im not a die hard Nikon fan or something, I know sony and canon are way better for video but Nikon is way more budget friendly. You can get great lenses starting from 200$, Nikon has a lot of cheap and really good lenses The only real downside for me is, the autofocus for video is not good. But you can always manual focus or keep distance

Hey Justin, thanks for the info, great video. I have experience with Canon and Sony. What you said is so true. I love Canon because of the great colors and ease of use, but I have to use Sony because of $$$. I shoot most of my videos at 120fps in 1080, and Sony provides that feature in its cameras at a much lower cost (I have RX10 and a6300) than Canon does. But, Sony colors are not even close to Canon's. Thanks again my friend.

Hey thanks Justin. A really good general round up that someone of my level (novice) can comprehend. I have a question. You use a canon lens because it gives you the Canon autofocus capabilities. Is any of the autofocus controlled by the camera itself or is it all done by the lens?
@PrimalVideo7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alex! The amazing Canon autofocus only works on the canon cameras themselves. For me, using Canon lenses on my Panasonic I'm still stuck with Panasonic (actually a bit worse as it's through an adaptor) autofocus. For these videos though I just use manual focus and set it using my tablet controlling the camera 👍

Thanks for this. Just a quick note. It is beginning to drive me crazy when I hear the explanation of depth of field being "That blurry background look". Depth of field actually refers to the part of the image that is in focus *in addition* to the subject that has been deliberately focused on. This means that, with a shallow depth of field, with the camera focused on a subject (for example) 15 feet away, anything in the background or the foreground would be out of focus, when using cameras in which the sensor is parallel to the lens. With some view cameras, however, which can have the plane on which the sensor is mounted, varied (set at an angle) from the plane that the lens is in, the depth of field can be set to cut across the image at an angle. I realize that you, and others, may be using the 'blurry background' explanation as a kind of 'shorthand' to give people an idea of what a shallow depth of field does visually, but you end up confusing the issue by limiting the idea to describing only the background.

Don't buy Metabones speedboosters, they are too expensive! Viltrox makes great speedboosters that cost 1/3 the price of a Metabones. The Viltrox EF-M2 (Canon EF to Micro 4/3) has no apparent difference in quality or reliability and you can buy 3-4 Viltrox speedboosters (for multiple camera mounts) for the price of one Metabones. Comparing the two, some users have found that Metabones speedboosters don't mount well on the camera, and result in a bit of play...way more play than their Viltrox counterpart!!!

This is the first question I've ever posted on KZbin, so hope you can give me some advice. May I know if it's still worth investing in DSLRs as there are a lot of amazing mirrorless cameras to choose from in 2018? I have owned several compact cameras before but usually, focus on withstanding weather conditions, but as I'm growing up and getting more interested in photography, I wanted to take pictures with much better quality for picnic/travels/vlogs, so I'm placing emphasis on both vid performance and pictures (wildlife, scenery, portraits & sports event). I have an HTC RE for wide angle vlogs (not very good image stabilisation) and an iPhone 8+ which can act like a decent point-and-shoot for daily pics but I have been doing a lot of research and is deciding between Canon G7x Mark ii, Canon T7i/800D or Canon 77D. I never own a DSLR so it will be a first for me if I get one of those. These three cameras are the ones that seems to suit me but I'm still in a dilemma. What do you recommend?

I would say any lower priced or used DSLR or even Power Zoom cameras from Canon. Canon has great video and sound period. You can get older Canon DSLRs on EBay for 100-200 Dollar range. Also to start out with a new camera at that price, buy a small Canon power zoom like the Canon SX170 is, or other similar Canon for 99 dollars at a Black Friday or closeout sale...

This is a good video. I would add that Panasonic has bad autofocus - better than nikon though. ISO is limited. Native mics for Panasonic are very good. Canon primes on aps-c bodies are not that good at short range and the Sigma 18-35 is noisy when autofocusing - you have to use a lav mic. Sony primes focus silently - much less hassle. Getting used to the Sony menus although not as easy as Canon, are no harder to navigate than Panasonic and takes little time to get used to. Although older canons like t6 and t5i have autofocus it does not work with primes like the dpaf that is in their new range.

I’m 17 so getting a new camera is no where in my budget. But I want to get a mirror camera, something I can use for vlogging as well. But I don’t know which camera is he best one to get.
@gitithadani7 жыл бұрын
Firstly I think you should differentiate between DSLRS and mirrorless. I have used several camera systems and find each has its own color science. To say that one is better or one is inferior means one does not understand the leaps of processing in color science. I get excellent results on different lenses from different camera systems because after learning the cameras, lenses, kinds of white balance, exposure possibilities etc. If these are not configured properly colors will not be in synch. Further color harmonies are subjective. DSLR design grew out of the film slr, hence both canon and nikon have a huge lens array, Canon has also developed a mirrorless aps-c system which is quite reasonably priced but does not give the better hybrid features that Sony gives. Panasonic has had a long development in camcorders and their mirrorless systems draw from it - hence they are specialized mainly for video. The main choice in going in for a new system is sensor size, then dslr or mirrorless. The third aspect is still/hybrid/video, then lens selection both native and adaptability and lastly other features like ibis etc.
@zeropoint41517 жыл бұрын
How come I've already predicted you were using a Panasonic system? Anyway, I'm putting up a small production company and would invest in some camera systems. I'd like to know if it's better to Invest in dslrs like the GH5 or video camera system like Canon's c200 system?
@PrimalVideo7 жыл бұрын
We have mentioned it in quite a few of our other videos 😜 As for GH5 or C200.. totally different workflows.. different battery life, audio options, codecs, frame rates.. You'll really need to look at the type of videos you're creating as there is no perfect option for all scenarios. Depending on the shoot there are times each one of these could be better than the other.
@adamcboyd7 жыл бұрын
I'm confused. This seems like a camera overview. I didn't hear you talk about comparisons of actual video related stuff. Comparing different fps settings, which one is best for run and gun, which is best for locking down. Stuff like that.
@PrimalVideo7 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam, thanks for the comment! This one is about the general differences between camera brands and what you should look out for when deciding which brands to look at (in my opinion atleast!) Everything you've mentioned would be model-specific... Specific camera features, FPS settings, "best camera" for X specific purpose varies hugely based on the models within each brand and budget, so that's a whole different video (actually a BIG set of videos 😉 )
@HoopHaven7 жыл бұрын
You stated that Nikon cameras are poor in low light?!? Have you used the Nikon D7100/D7200 or the D500? All of those cameras are beast in low light. As for the selection of lens that you mention are limited, I guess Nikon is prevalent in your country. Thanks for your opinion.
@PrimalVideo7 жыл бұрын
This video was clearly a generalization of the brands as a whole, there are definitely exceptions to everything mentioned for each brand, but as a whole, these are my thoughts 😀

Well about low light, I really agree with Hoop, Nikons are beast... I owned D7000, and going throug D7200, D500, D850, .... low light seems to be a flagship for Nikon.... About lenses, I feel like this: 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 what else do you need (if you don't got for wildlife shooting). Any brand of cameras nowaday (sony, canon, nikon, Panasonic, leica,...) got all that primes lenses, and fast zoom. I don't think the "more lenses choice in Canon" continue do aply in 2018 (and you got all the 3rd party lenses as Sigma, Tamron....) - For video, I agree, I don't think Nikon is best, well neither is canon... I would go Sony or Panasonic mirrorless.

Generalization? You gave next to no PROs for Nikon, which, is one of the LEADING camera systems out there. It's ridiculous. You made them sound like trash, shame on you.

Any thoughts about doing a review on the best camcorder for video? I know DSLR's are all the rage but I I would have thought camcorders, being made for video, would be worth exploring too - or are they no longer relevant?
