Honda CRF300L:
Balance is the key when riding any motorcycle. And we’re not talking about just balancing on two wheels: We’re talking about the balance between size, weight, power and handling that makes some bikes great-like the new Honda CRF300L. Based on our previous CRF250L, for 2021, it gets a larger engine with more torque and a whole host of chassis and suspension refinements. What you end up with is one of the best-balanced bikes ever for on- and off-road use. Perfect for weekend trail rides, it’s also among the best choices ever for commuting or urban transportation. And if you’re looking for a version with a windscreen and Dakar-inspired bodywork for a little more weather protection, make sure you check out our new CRF300L Rally.
Hello my name is Andrew, My family and I love powersports. Just something about the feel of freedom and power you get from a bike or ATV. On this channel you will find content for the Honda 300L as well as our journey we take together in the world of power sports.

Really enjoy your videos. I'm new to the CRF300L and find your videos very informative. I've seen so many videos where they just film and talk. Yours are specific, well organized, edited, well informed and too the point. I'm coming from a KLR650 where many just change the front sproket, but I really like your rationale on changing the rear. Also, your mod recommendations are against the norm. So many say add all of theses accessories before improving performance. I'm with ya. Improve performance, then improve protection. Love it. Keep it up please!

*12mm difference between a 120/80 and 120/90. Like you stated, it's an aspect ratio so 120*.8=96mm tall and 120*.9=108mm tall. Not that 2mm really matters. especially on taller tread tires that wear down more than that over the course of their lifespan. Also, HD tubes are usually unnecessary unless you're airing down under 10psi and they add significant weight which is more noticeable on lower powered bikes.

A really descent all-round tire for this bike is the Kenda K270. It comes in stock sizes for the 300L and is extremely well-priced. The tread pattern is very trials tire like. They track pretty good in gravel and are great on rocky climbs and quite nice on pavement. Also, the speed ratings are appropriate for the bike. A similar tire tread to this is the Shinko 244, but the front size has a speed rating way below the top speed of the bike.

270 is my go to 50/50 tire. Some mention a vague feeling from the front tire on road but I have found that once they are worn in a bit and with the right air pressure they are a great 50/50 tire

@MotorcyclesOffroad
@MotorcyclesOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm ok so you are putting me on the spot here I will have to answer from the top of my head. On this bike stock I believe it is a 2.85 and a 3.0 would be adding 2 teeth to the rear (basically nothing). I would be running something like a 3.5 but some of my tire size mitigates that.

I see sooooo many Bro's get these lower powered 250/300's and put 120 or 110 D606 on them, that tire is a tank for weight. You are adding 3lbs to your crank, that saps a lot of power. My KLX250 I shaved 2-3lbs off the rear wheel with an aluminum sprocket and MX chain. I could tell instantly that motor had more grunt and revved a lot quicker. I usually run the Kenda Trakmaster 100-100-18. It is smaller, but the side lugs dig in offroad and its cheap + lightweight, handles everything very well.

There are so many choices... I only have 300 miles on my Rally, but I’m shopping for better traction. Doing a little bit of research long before I got my new bike, I changed my mind about which tires to choose at least three times. Initially I thought that I wanted the D606/MT21 combo, which still seems like a good choice. but then I discovered the Michelin Trackrs... Solid tires, wouldn’t be mismatching, the guys over on dual sport adventures have been running them for a couple of years now and they absolutely love them, and they just looked like the perfect tire imo... Then I discovered the DSports. They cost almost half as much as the Michelin’s, and there are so many good reviews on reputable KZbin channels, and it’s extremely difficult to find anyone that has any complaints about them. At this point, I feel like the Dsports with some heavy duty tubes should suit me fine... I’m preparing for the TAT, and will most likely leave my gearing stock before my first trip. I plan on breaking the TAT up into 3 or 4 different trips, so things just might change before it is over with... Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated...

@@MotorcyclesOffroad those reusable filters make me cringe. Watch out for moisture. I killed a Honda 400ex atv in just a couple hours down by the lake on muddy wet trails when I was younger. The water splashing in here and there let all ( and I mean all)the silt come in and when I pulled the filter( after the guys behind me started to complain about the smoke trail I was leaving). The throat to the carb literally had a paste of grinding compound laying in the bottom. The K&N still looked pink and sticky,but had to have a new piston and jug. My local shop owner of 40+ years said he is having a hard time finding the stock filters for the 300's. He is selling all his DNA filters and not restocking. He wouldn't say why,hummm???? This guy has bored & rebuilt so many engines I would trust his judgement. Just keep an eye on yours,especially after any wet rides. Also I picked my next set of tires Irc tr-8 battle cross front( + 10mm or so) and a tusk dsport rear (d606 clone) also a bit taller. 14/45 sprockets and new xring chain. Interesting, and I also think if I remember right that the 250 has a slimmer front tire.

Yes it's quite a bit slimmer. Seems to be okay I guess I can take some pretty decent speed thru some street corners nothing like my WR250X but that was some years ago lol. BTW thanks for making that video about the tune from 550 I picked it up for my bike & it seems to run pretty damn good!

Your close on tire diameter but it works just a bit different 120 is the width in mm 80 is the percentage of width that is sidewall height To get the diameter 120 x .8 = 96 that is one sidewall 96 x 2 = 192 192/25.4 = 7.55 inches 7.55 + 18 = 25.56 inch diameter 120 x .9 = 108 108 x 2 = 216 216/25.4 = 8.5 8.5 + 18 = 26.50 So the 120/90 x 18 is a full 1 inch larger diameter Not 10 mm This is 3.9% larger 14/40 sprockets are 2.86 to one New final gearing is 2.748 to one 14/43 with the larger tire nets 2.96 to one Probably the perfect option to maintain even gain a small bit of torque as not lose top end cruising speed

Yeah.. I tried to make a correction on the pinned comment. Tires can be super confusing, mainly because there is no standard as well.

My stock Yamaha XT250 came from the Yamaha with rim locks. So I would guess they are DOT in compliance.

I ride the 2022 honda crf450rl and run the Dunlop D606 front and rear. As far as the front I've never had any issues with the front washing out. Unless I'm in the front brake to hard, which any tire will wash out. The rear for dot tire is the best I've ever ran!
