Awesome review! Was just watching this as I ordered a Eonon unit with OBD and back up camera. The last mod I have on my list for now for HAIL39. I recently got an Eisenmann race exhaust for my 2003 540i M tech 6speed paired with this radio, I will be finding excuses to go for a drive lol. This mod will really push the car interior forward another 10 years.

how did you get it to fit?! I have a 2003 540i msport and fitment for these Eonon is listed as only 97-2002. The 2003 plug is different and it seems like the brackets to install properly into the actual dash won't work.

To say that it's "plug and play" is misleading. Maybe that's the case for non-DSP. It is definitely NOT plug and play if you have DSP. You will need to buy the extra cable bundle, about $60 USD and run it from the back of the car to the head unit, which makes installation much more involved.

I did purchase the unit for my 2005 X5. The fit isn’t exact. There is space at the top that I will have to address. But the radio does work extremely well. Customer service from Eonon is horrible, however. It is impossible to get someone on the phone and emails receive generic responses that appear to be computer generated.

I used to have a similar android unit in my winter beater, but I ended up reverting back to OE after having bought a bluebus adapter for my summerdriven 540i. All I really miss is the built-in subwoofer output and the much better looks compared to the dull looking OE MID unit..

Hey man I bought an android headunit and I bought the additional wiring harness that goes from the trunk to the headunit because I had oem nav with DSP, but only my front speakers are working, I can’t get my Nokia subwoofers and rear speakers to work. any advice? Some told me I need the i-bus module and some said I don’t.

You can just ignore the rca cables and just install the original cables from the radio unit (if youbdont have an amp in the trunk)

I think when I've had issues installing android radios like these, it usually comes down to a signal wire being in the wrong place. Triple check your wiring, and make sure you have the right harness to fit your car, good luck!

Have yet to install the cameras, but that's coming soon. If you have a sedan, you can use a camera that's built into the trunk handle (amzn.to/3DlFu3N -aff). Startup time is about 20-30 sec, but after that the unit is pretty responsive, and has all the features you could need. I mainly use mine for bluetooth audio (great quality sound btw) and GPS speed through Ulysse speedometer.

Yes! It comes with bluetooth, but you can also buy a separate carplay adapter and that will work as well!

Hmm, not sure if you could damage the DME. The safest way to do any electrical work is with the battery unplugged, but shouldn't be necessary for this install.

Certain E39's had a navigation radio or factory DSP, and in that case I think you need to order an adapter harness separately to make it work!

Does the fm radio work, or does it make any other sound? You have to open the "A2DP" which shows the track playing in order for it to play the audio. Check your connections, and good luck!

Was your radio working before? If not, you may have faulty amp. Otherwise, make sure you have the right adapter for your harness, read the instructions, and check the fuses (one on the unit, and ones in your car).

You're probably going to have to route the wire to one side of the car, then run it from the dashboard, down to under the carpet, and run along the side until you reach the rear seats. Then with fold down seats its easy to slip it in somewhere, with standard seat you may have to unbolt them and find a hole to route through. Good luck! I've never done it so let us know how it goes.

Even considering just the diversity of sensitivity to sound between humans makes it... let's just say a bit optimistic ;) And that's before you realize that many people are not keen on strapping a pretty heavy object to the dashboard or wherever else you put it, or just having it lying somewhere. And that one bt speaker, no matter how decent, won't provide a uniform experience to every passenger. And that, although digital trickery can offset many downsides of physical setups nowadays, there's a reason high-end audio relies on many individual speakers. Most people probably don't need 23-speaker Mark Levinson or some Burmester but it's not insane to aim higher than a bt speaker, seriously ;)

Yes! Some models have upgraded sound systems which require an additional adapter, but it will work with any E39.
