Dismissing the Black Steel Greathammer outside of guard counter builds is odd, especially when it stands as the best damage-dealing option for Faith builds with both Sacred and Flame Art infusions. In fact, the Flame Art Black Steel Greathammer and Sacred Black Steel Greathammer outperform other weapons significantly in terms of raw AR, especially with high Faith investment. With 25 STR, 15 DEX, and 80 FAI, the Flame Art Black Steel Greathammer achieves a total AR of 965, split into: - Physical AR: 298 - Fire AR: 510 - Holy AR: 157 Meanwhile, the Sacred Black Steel Greathammer achieves a total AR of 852, split into: - Physical AR: 298 - Holy AR: 553 Compared to other Faith-infused weapons like the Great Stars, which only reaches 776 AR with both Flame Art and Sacred infusions, the Black Steel Greathammer vastly outclasses it in both categories. Not only does the Flame Art version surpass other Faith-scaling weapons in overall damage output with a mix of physical, fire, and holy damage, but even outside of Faith scaling, it still boasts better pure AR values than most alternatives. Its versatility and power for Faith builds are hard to overlook. Dismissing it simply because it excels in guard counter builds ignores how well it scales for general-purpose Faith users, making it an excellent choice for both standard and Faith-focused builds.

It's not just strong for full faith builds either: It's really strong for strength builds with a little faith investment as well (which you want for buffs anyway). At 80str and 17fth it has like 6 less phys AR than the Heavy Great Mace and 11 less than a Brick Hammer, which are the two strongest contenders. For that tiny loss in physical damage you get 103 Holy damage instead and the weapon can still take buffs as well.

With Flame Art, for instance, it receives good scaling along with an additional approximately 156 Holy AR, resulting in a total AR of 965. For Sacred, it gains an additional around 100 Holy AR compared to what it typically achieves when looking purely at its scaling. While it does have to contend with multiple defenses, particularly regarding Flame Art, it still benefits from an extra 157 AR with absolutely no drawbacks. Edit: and considering how often you can get stance breaks with Greathammers that going through multiple defense points is less important, as a critical bypasses defenses

Also, a lot of enemies actually resist pierce damage. It's only really useful in weapon classes that only have pierce damage (spears, thrusting swords) and rusted anchor because rusted anchor

Great Stars is probably my favorite all-round weapon in the game. Works wonders with any infusion, can adapt to any build and playstyle, looks menacing. Bloodfiend Arm might be stronger, but nothing will ever beat just how well the Great Stars play.

The entire point of the Smithscript weapons is for extremely high level builds. My lvl 600 character uses the Smithscript weapons cause they are hilariously OP at that level. Even the Daggers rule. For anyone interested, the Great Mace in particular gets its best damage per stat point investment at lvl 150 on a Str/Arcane build. 36str and 54 arcane will out damage 80 str even when two handed by a substantial margin. And, you could bleed infuse the Great mace for some of those bosses if you wanted to, which you can't really do if you go pure strength

One point that is missed here is the damage with heavy infused greathammers. The brick hammer at 80 strength heavy infused does not get the most damage. The black steel greathammer does at nearly 850. Yes a small portion of that is holy damage but it will still out damage the brick hammer. I think it's being dismissed here as a guard counter weapon.

It's a really strong weapon, you should try it. Solid damage, passive bleed and heals you on each hit. Dual wield Great Stars is incredibly strong too. Since they have passive bleed that also means they do pair with an Occult infusion.

It’s about the calibre of enemies weaker to pierce. Basically anything that wears armor and dragons are weaker to piercing damage. Those are some of the hardest enemies in the game making it the best even without counterattack damage. And counter attack damage with the spear talisman is like over 45% free damage. So how could it be anything but the best?

It seems like you base tiers by comparing weapons of the same class rather than by how good they are at beating the game on their own. For example, all greathammers should get a C at the very least by virtue of being greathammers. You put a few in D by comparing them to the others, again, that's not how tier lists work. Also weapon availability is not a valid variable for ranking

Just think of how many hits someone would casually do while exploring and clearing areas, and you'll realize that this thing would be WAY better than a Golden Scarab, especially earlier in the game when level ups cost only a couple thousands.
