BEST Entry-level HE Keyboard? - Arbiter Studio Polar 65 Review | Before You Buy

I've tried few different HE keyboards and this one is at the very bottom of the pile for me (from implementation perspective, the build itself is fine, feels better than un-modded Wooting for example) - one of the biggest selling points of HE keyboards is adjustable actuation point and rapid trigger. However, the implementation of rapid trigger on this board (as well as its other Polar65 clones like Endgame Gear KB65HE and I believe VXE ATK68 as well but I'm not sure about this one) is severely lacking to its competitors like Wooting, DrunkDeer, Akko MOd007B HE or even cheap Redragon M61. For some reason, rapid trigger only works "one way", meaning that you can modify how fast the key is deactivated but not how fast you can reactivate it again. That can move actuation point way below what it is set for initial actuation, for example: you have actuation set to 2mm and rapid trigger to 0.2mm - you press key to 2mm, it actuates. Then you lift by those 0.2mm (meaning that your absolute position is 1.8mm) - now to activate the key again, you again have to move another 2mm (absolute position 3.8mm), making the next actuation point to be way too low. All other boards let you set how much you need to press again while under rapid trigger mode to avoid such weird behaviour but not this one, I don't know why. This kind of defeats half of the purpose of HE keyboards for me and I wouldn't recommend this keyboard at that price, you are better of with other brands I mentioned. However, luckily this might be just a software/firmware thing and could be fixed by future updates, so not all hope is lost.

i dont notice what youre describing. i set both ACTUATION and RAPID TRIGGER to 0.5mm with the web app. maybe the new software update fixed it?

I think he is saying if you want your actuation to .5 for example and rapid trigger .1, after raising the key .1 you have to press it down .5 again to trigger the rapid trigger.

@@3Vizo I've been testing it every time new firmware was released and re-tested as I was writing my comment as I noticed new firmware came up few days ago (so I have latest firmware from their website and I used their new webapp to set the keyboard app). Still the same thing as I described. Btw, you won't notice what I'm describing with your settings (@iamhotspurs12 got it right), having 0.5mm actuation and rapid trigger will behave as one would expect. However, try setting one of your keys to 2.0mm actuation and 0.1mm rapid trigger, then you will see what I mean. When I go really slow, the key activates at around that 2mm mark. Then I slowly lift and with 0.1mm rapid trigger, key deactivates almost instantly. I hold it at that point and slowly press the key again - and it does not activate after 0.1mm but rather I almost need to bottom it out for it to activate again (at about 3.5mm instead of around that 2.0mm). I don't have that with any other board (except for Endgame Gear's new HE keyboard, which is essential Polar65 clone) - all other keyboards are behaving correctly and key is reactivated after re-pressing it ever so slightly, I don't need to bottom the key out with other HE keyboards. Of course this is not the most usual scenario but still, there are still some keys for which I'd like to turn off rapid trigger (which I can't on Polar65, it's pretty much all or nothing) and thus I cannot get it to behave how I'm used to from Wooting, Akko, DrunkDear or even Redragon M61. Is it a deal breaker? Not really, keyboard itself is still well made and has decent sound. But if your main goal is performance, DrunkDeer is around the same price and from my experience it's much closer to Wooting's performance than Polar65. And for ultra budget, I could actually recommend Redragon M61, it's like $90 and while it feels fairly cheap, I was able to configure it much closer to my Wooting than any Polar65 board. But as I said, what I'm describing is quite an edge case and can be fixed with firmware/software, so not all hope is lost.

@@3Vizo By the way, I'm not the only one who noticed this weird rapid trigger quirk - optimum tech released review of EndgameGear KB65HE (which is pretty much a clone of Polar65 board) and he mentioned exactly the same thing (around 3:25 mark), so I'm definitely not the only one who noticed this. I think this should be fixed before this board (or its clones) can be put in the same conversation as Wooting, DrunkDeer or Akko keyboards. I'm not saying Polar65 is straight up bad but until they fix this rapid trigger weirdness I would recommend like 4 different HE keyboards over this one.

HOW DID YOU OPEN UP THE KEYBOARD??? im trying to open it up to tape mod, but even after taking out the switches but i dont know how to open up the thing since i could tape mod the pcb. please help.

unscrew the pcb screws then tilt the keyboard upside down, carefully catching the pcb in your other hand. then you can tape mod it

do u get any delay or weird input on the yuki aim? when i press D key and hold it all the way down it sometimes doesn't register. Especially when i am holding shift key with it pairing it with A key which is strafing.

polar of course. Or ATK68, KB65HE if you have better access to those as they all use the same PCB with various differences that you may or may not like (case, switches, caps)

Thats quite a big difference in price but hmmmm.... Would you see yourself wanting to change out the keycaps or experiment with new switches in future? If yes, I would suggest the Polar 65 because you can't exactly do that with a Huntsman V3 Pro TKL. However if you just want a good performance keyboard to play your favorite games and nothing more, the Huntsman will do! and I think it looks pretty good on a Esports setup too if that's what you are going for :)

Only been a week but funny enough I been maining the kb65he and set everything else down. With the new low latency beta firmware they released I find it to be an equal to wooting but 65% form which is perfect for my wants.

so a con for who ever is thinking about buying this keyboard im a content creator on tiktok growing im in the middle of doing a review on this ive used it for about 10 days now not all he magnetic switches are comptable like the wooting its not upgradable ( the case) like wooting its only a 30 price difference i wouldnt look at the price n get a wooting if you want gameplay customisable creativity and wooting is comptable with all magnetic switches (yes i bought every single magnetic switch n is making a whole review rn as i speak)

A glitch I encountered is that my number keys are stuck in "F mode". I reset the keyboard to default in the web app, but didn't fix it. No clue how to fix this because it just happened today.

wooting is great but they don't have macros which made me return the keyboard for ppl only care about the feel and the actuation point and rapid trigger just use any cheap keyboard wooting great but if you using their keyboard like 29 like me the sound of the keyboard turned trash suddenly not worth the hype tbh this keyboard looks decent but without proper macros I find the keyboard not worth even considering if all you are about hall effect feature just buy any cheap keyboard there is no dif " delay measurement " and stuff like that don't relay on them coz there is no one could measure that " my English is trash but I hope you get the point "
