As someone that really likes clicky switches I appreciate your reminding people that this hobby is about your personal preferences. I started out with Model M boards and I think that has influenced my preference towards clicky switches or strong tactile switches. Thank you for continuing to support beginners, I will likely recommend this video to my nephew after Christmas. He likes Lego's so there is a good chance he will enjoy putting a keyboard together.

i actually built my first keyboard today after being inspired by your aliexpress keyboard challenge videos!! admittedly i saw this upload after actually building the board, and im waiting for the final few artisan keycaps to arrive for it... but it was such a happy and satisfying feeling plugging it into my laptop and seeing it worked and knowing id built it!!! i chose the gmk87 following one of your aliexpress videos because i loveeee the screen and im gonna animate some of my own gifs for it!! really cool hobby to get into and building keebs is so fun.. i can def see myself doing it again. thank you for inspiring me hipyo!!

Thanks Hipyo! You are the main reason I've become addicted to trying out different switches, keycaps, etc.... I thought I was a silent linear guy, and yet I'm currently using Gateron baby kangaroos and I really like them. I'm using them in a Keychron Q6, and compared to the gamer marketed mainstream boards I've had before I'm blown away with the quality you can get building your own for about the same price. Never mind going much cheaper if you like, I'm well aware the Keychron is not a budget option.

Thanks to Hipyo, I decided to mod my keyboard a little bit. I did some research and watched a lot of his videos and decided that I wanted the tape mod as well as O-Rings. My keyboard is an MX Mechanical Mini and after this mods it's *Chef's Kiss*! Thanks Hipyo!

Hey Hipyo, you introduced me to my first mechanical keyboard. I decided to go with the a keychron to start with. I've ended up having weird situations with double typing keys. (When they're pressed down, I get more than one character out of the press.) Are there ways that you troubleshoot individual switches or do you just replace them? I got a switch tested from Amazon Vine, but it's just an aluminum brick. I have some very thocky linear switches in a hot swap keyboard with gasket and foam and they sounded cheap in the tester

I want a keyboard with additional macrokeys, to the left side. Very few are made now, and I liked my Logitech one, but not finding any out there. I know I'm one of the 'few' who like them, live by them, and still use them. Personally, every make-your-own keyboard maker looks EXACTLY the same to me, just different colors. So, before I select a keyboard key, I want to find a keyboard layout I wat. Getting an additional macropad, which most are just NUM keys isn't what I want either.

Hi Hypho, very fan about your work being newby to this. I would like some recommendations about webs to get ISO Spanish keycaps or keyboards with hall effect because I only found Keychron Q1 HE QMK with that layout and it's too expensive. I actually have an Attack Shark K85 with ANSI US layout wich I'm planning to mod a little bit (EVA Foam, tape mod and spanish keycaps I found in Aliexpress that at least can be placed over ANSI layout only losing one key (the "" one near the left shift that is in all ISO keyboards) but I would like to find better quality ISO keycaps as actual ones are a little bit cheap compared with ANSI ones or more options to buy a pre assembled custom ISO Spanish keyboards

I love the way a clicky key feels, but not the way it sounds

That may be because cherry MX were originally designed to be tactile switches with hysterisis, not clicky. The click jacket of cherry MX whites was lubed so it wouldn't make as much noise but due to the demmand for clicky switches, cherry made blue switches without the lube resulting in a very unpleasent click (more of a plastic-ey rattle). Switches like clicky alps on the other hand used click leaves which produce a much crisper, metallic click. Combined with roomy plastic cases of the 90's, those keyboard can sound quite amazing.
