Cmon his wives arent useless! Hinatsuru shot down the wisteria poisoned kunai -which gave Tanjiro an opening. And the other two evacuated the citizens, saving all those lives! Sure killing the demons is important, but if the wives hadnt evacuated the people, then the last explosion wouldve killed them all.

You have to credit the wives. They're a typical ninja team decipet at probably every other media with frontliner-espionage- assassin team. It's just they encounter a better espionage (daki). You have to remember no one knew it's upper rank demon there, and two of them. Also I have to agree this fight needed a lot of luck and quick thinking. just look at the last fight, if tanjiro we're few seconds late cutting gyotaro's head, tengen would be dead, he lost an eye, hand just prior. Whereas gyotaro would never tire or took damage parmanently.
