JOIN as a Member to have YOUR store featured and for more perks: bit.ly/37KoZBH UPDATE: The estate sale dealers reportedly followed up with Keith Wilkie to say that I had reached out to one of them after the sale to ask about pictures for an upcoming sale and ASSUMED that I was going to show up to get my name on the Friday sign up list. When I did not show up to the sign up list day, they reportedly said I was a no show. Mind you, I never received a response to my inquiry for pictures (because I was removed from the mailing list), had no idea that any of this was going on with the family when I sent my email, and never said I was going to the Friday sign up, which I do not always do depending on my schedule and how far the sale is from me. This one was far from my home. Another update is that the estate sale dealers reportedly waived their commission fee after all of this.

That says a lot about the estate sale company; very shady, untrustworthy and deflects their ineptness onto others. It's a shame that people like this are in business and other families may get swindled and lied to as well.

This happened to me. I won an auction and the state sale person told me that the owner wanted it back. I gave them a negative review specially because I found out when I got there. I know it’s hard for the family, but also the time that someone puts when buying reselling is one that he will never get back. I will share the video with all your friends and family and subscribe to this channel. Enjoy and please do not resell it. Thanks.

The sentimental value of that item is priceless. No matter who bought it, they would not appreciate like the family will. However, being an estate sale buyer myself, I would strongly urge the family to take legal action against the company. Other families could be victimized in the future if the company misleads families like this. Estate sales are emotional enough to begin with without estate sale personnel having to put a family through dishonesty and basically theft. Good for you..

It would have sold for $800ish or so. The woman's brother asked me if I had found it and if they could have it back. I gave it to them, as well as a bunch of old pictures and letters from their grandmother to their grandfather during WWII. Thanks for going into this so deep, Dominic. You did the right thing IMO, "good on you". There's a lesson to be learned also in the way Jack's son wrote the email to you. So many people might have been tempted to word the email more like, "Hey, you have my dad's stuff, I want it back" or similar phraseology. I know it's 2021 already and I'm an old man too, but really, politeness still works wonders. But the most important point(s) I think are the underhanded way the estate sale company lied about you and also the fact that they gave up personal information regarding you. I hope you can continue your business successfully without ever dealing with them again because I was very disappointed to hear how they acted. Stay well and keep on keeping on my friend, "Your Way".

A great example of how although pickers have a love for the hunt and scoring an awesome find at a great price, it's not all about the money, or what you can keep for yourself or pass along to others, sometimes it's about reconnecting an item that transcends it's monetary value with the people who hold it dear to their hearts. As someone who just closed my family's estate last year, my heart rejoices that you decided to return this to the family. My sister ďid not want to relinquish control to an estate sale company and, since the majority of the work fell on me, I have always said of I were to do it again, I would fight to have someone else do it. Now, I'm not so sure. In actuality, during the sale someone tried to purchase something that had great sentimental value to me....and I thought I had turned over everything and looked in every corner of the house! Fortunately, since we ran the sale, I was able to retain it.

Great final ending. Reminded me of Mr Holland’s Opus. My mom spent almost 6 years in a nursing home due to early onset of Alzheimer’s disease in her early 50’s. We kept her at home as long as we could. After that my dad visited her several times a day, every day. There were many performers who came into the home to entertain the residents. It’s a beautiful thing they did. My wife worked in the assisted living facilities as a marketing director for 12 years. They also brought in entertainment. Anything to bring happiness to those wonderful people. You did the right thing for a wonderful man & his family. God Bless you & your business and The Wilkies.

Thank you for giving (selling) it back to the family. You will be BLESSED ten fold, I promise you. When you put good out into the world, good comes back. I absolutely loved the ending. Even if he didn’t talk much about the autograph he clearly thought fondly of Sinatra and it’s obvious the memory belongs with the family. Should they choose to sell it I’m sure their father would have wanted it that way. Should they keep it, that’s how their father would have wanted it. Either way no judgement. You are a good man, and did the right thing. Those saying you should have kept it.... Don’t be that person. Life isn’t just about the money you make. Sometimes your best reward is doing the right thing.

I know myself i can put great effort and time into looking for items that “I know are around here or should be there” and still not locate. Once something passes into another’s hands it’s really up to them and their character. Glad in this case at least some items got to the right person.

Having lost my own father in 2014, and my mother in 2007, both while I lived thousands of miles away, I understand the loss of valuable memorabilia. Nothing replaces the memories of the heart, but some items are so special and can't be replaced. I think I would have, in honor of my father who gave so much to the world, given it back with no exchange of money. But my decision would be purely emotionally based, and I'm always the first to tell people to keep emotions out of business. This is one situation I wouldn't be able to.

I am a storage unit buyer and reseller,as well as I do estate thrifting, and yardsale thrifting, and goodwill thrifting, I would never sell back below what I normally have the item listed for.. however I would have if story can be verified to sell it back to them at a reasonable price as long as it was above what I paid for it, usually my time and what I spent going there. You did what was right. We call it regifting the love back to the family. Things happen sometimes beyond our control and we need to have the love to give back when we can afford to do so, sorta do unto others as you may one day want others to do to you. I would hate to be in a position that I lose such a prize possession for the family and never be able to get it back. You did the right thing!!!

What a great resolution. Your reward will be just in Heaven. My brother bought a box of The Beatles memorabilia (tickets, playbill, etc. at a a sale on Milwaukee and gave the items to my niece. She wanted to meet the girl who had gone to the show and did some searching. Come to find out, the things were at her childhood home and were sold unintentionally. My niece returned them to a very happy woman many years after the fact. Always nice when things work out.

Similar thing happened to me at a local estate sales. I was in the garage and found a brief cases filled with stock bonds. I brought it up to the estate sales ladies, and they were surprised they missed it since it was hidden behind boxes in the garage. She gave me a great deal on the items I bought at the sale, since it saved them from issues as described in this video.
