JOIN as a Member to have YOUR store featured and for more perks: bit.ly/37KoZBH UPDATE: The estate sale dealers reportedly followed up with Keith Wilkie to say that I had reached out to one of them after the sale to ask about pictures for an upcoming sale and ASSUMED that I was going to show up to get my name on the Friday sign up list. When I did not show up to the sign up list day, they reportedly said I was a no show. Mind you, I never received a response to my inquiry for pictures (because I was removed from the mailing list), had no idea that any of this was going on with the family when I sent my email, and never said I was going to the Friday sign up, which I do not always do depending on my schedule and how far the sale is from me. This one was far from my home. Another update is that the estate sale dealers reportedly waived their commission fee after all of this.

The sentimental value of that item is priceless. No matter who bought it, they would not appreciate like the family will. However, being an estate sale buyer myself, I would strongly urge the family to take legal action against the company. Other families could be victimized in the future if the company misleads families like this. That's a beautiful story. We had an estate sale at my mom's house last fall and it's so hard. I know the estate sale company made out really well. I would never want to have another estate sale. I wouldn't have done this one but it was my brother's decision and we didn't have a choice. Thank you for doing the right thing. It brought tears to my eyes.

Uplifting video. The song he sang brought me to tears as my mom who painted my icon was in ICU before she passed was allowed by the nurses to have me play a CD of that very song while I brushed her hair told her I loved her and said my goodbyes. Money can never replace memories thank you for returning thier family heirlooms.

At first, before hearing the rest of the story, I thought fair market value was fair! But after hearing and seeing what his family had to say I would have done the exact same thing!! They can now pass it down to their children and grandchildren and their Dad will be so proud!! It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks Dom!!! It’s about what felt right in your heart!! I would have done the same thing!! You’re a great guy! I knew no matter what …you’d be fair!!! I like that!!! You’re a great man with a great heart!!! What goes around comes around!! 💕

I would have given it back as well. I agree with you, that I wouldn’t have felt good about auctioning it off. This meant more to the family than whomever would have bought it, and it was truly priceless to them. It sounds like they wanted you to have the finder’s fee so it was appropriate to take that. Thank you for sharing and paying a nice tribute 😊

We are currently dealing with my mom's estate. It is overwhelming. I can see how something may get overlooked. I would like to think if a mistake was made someone as honest as you would return the item. You're a stand up guy.

Sorry about your mother. I was about to say almost exactly the same thing. Even with the best efforts it can be difficult if not impossible to overlook things. I know myself i can put great effort and time into looking for items that “I know are around here or should be there” and still not locate. Once something passes into another’s hands it’s really up to them and their character. Glad in this case at least some items got to the right person.

You’re a real stand up guy. I know plenty of people wouldn’t think twice about a payout like that, for lots of pickers that might be their biggest ever and it would be truly hard to let that go. I would wanna do the same, it’s worth 2000 to someone else - but for this man, it’s truly priceless.

Having lost my own father in 2014, and my mother in 2007, both while I lived thousands of miles away, I understand the loss of valuable memorabilia. Nothing replaces the memories of the heart, but some items are so special and can't be replaced. I think I would have, in honor of my father who gave so much to the world, given it back with no exchange of money. But my decision would be purely emotionally based, and I'm always the first to tell people to keep emotions out of business. This is one situation I wouldn't be able to.

I am a storage unit buyer and reseller,as well as I do estate thrifting, and yardsale thrifting, and goodwill thrifting, I would never sell back below what I normally have the item listed for.. however I would have if story can be verified to sell it back to them at a reasonable price as long as it was above what I paid for it, usually my time and what I spent going there. You did what was right. We call it regifting the love back to the family. Things happen sometimes beyond our control and we need to have the love to give back when we can afford to do so, sorta do unto others as you may one day want others to do to you. I would hate to be in a position that I lose such a prize possession for the family and never be able to get it back. You did the right thing!!!

What a great resolution. Your reward will be just in Heaven. My brother bought a box of The Beatles memorabilia (tickets, playbill, etc. at a a sale on Milwaukee and gave the items to my niece. She wanted to meet the girl who had gone to the show and did some searching. Come to find out, the things were at her childhood home and were sold unintentionally. My niece returned them to a very happy woman many years after the fact. Always nice when things work out.

Similar thing happened to me at a local estate sales. I was in the garage and found a brief cases filled with stock bonds. I brought it up to the estate sales ladies, and they were surprised they missed it since it was hidden behind boxes in the garage. She gave me a great deal on the items I bought at the sale, since it saved them from issues as described in this video.
