One of the best ways to go about learning jazz is copy the phrases of the greats that we love.
This is what we do when we learn a new language.
We hear , learn and repeat words. and with some effort, study and practice we can start to
assemble these words into sentences .
After some more time and practice we can begin to re assemble themand express ourselves naturally.
In this video I would like to present to you what I consider to be some of the coolest,
most useful phrases any Jazz student can ever learn that come from Oscar Peterson´s
Cotton tail solo.
Think of these short phrases as building blocks, once you have learnt them deeply you will be
able to reassemble them spontaneously n to your own phrases!
Let me know what you think in the comments!

My name is Nick Homes. I was, and still am a non genius musician who struggled for many years to find out the secrets of jazz improvisation. Throughout 40 years of playing, and obsessive investigation I have focussed on building systems of learning for my students so they can improve , and reach their learning goals with the highest probability.

The maj7 would sound pretty nice - just tried it. I guess it contrasts a little bit to the bluesy b3 to 3 approach which would rather reflect typical dominant-blues-styles.

JJ Johnson used the Maj 7 on blues a ton, sometimes as a passing tone, others for tension/release. You have a beautiful sound and chops on the sax man!

Does anyone know if we get access to a community when we buy any of these masterclasses? It'd be cool to exchange recordings with other people in the same course and get feedback

Hi Nick, I think this is a really interesting approach, I can't deny that the idea of language is not new, however your point of view is very attractive and to say the least fun and practical so, thank you, we have to try it, work on it and see where it leads us, all the best.
