For me, small and compact is not 20L and larger bags. I would categorize the bags from 14L to 18L as small and compact. Four that should be here are the TAD Scout 15L, the Black Ember Citadel 18L the Evergoods CPL 16 and the MR Rip Ruck 15L.

I agree, but would include packs down to 10 liters like the previous gen Goruck Bullet, Topo designs Trip Pack, or Flowfold Optimist. There's also some good 12-13 liter options like the Able Carry 13 or Alpaka Metro Pack.

Great topic. But you should shoot against a brighter background. Most of the featured bags are black and it's hard to see the contrast. Especially when your model made it worse with a black top

each of those packs is insanely priced for no justification. suisse packs have better storage and many more pockets and 1/2 the price.

Except they're uncomfortable uneconomic mass-produced heavy garbage that look awful. These are all made by much smaller companies with nice materials and will last a lifetime and look good doing it. Obviously not everybody is in the market for nice backpacks, but given what goes into making these, they're not all that expensive. That is to say, there is justification. There aren't luxury goods. Luxury backpacks cost 10x what these do. These are just examples of good quality durable things.

Nah, the MPL22 goes over both bags IMO. You get the water bottle pockets of the CHZ22 with more pocketing like the PLC20.

I’ve learned it’s generally worth it to spend more on the things you use or interact with most often in life. Plus some of these bags come with lifetime warranties or repair programs as well as being made from recycled materials.
