Pretty much just using Miebo these days, but my tear film is pretty stable so my only issue is saponification in the tear film from low quality meibum. Not sure Miebo helps with that at all. Would be interested in a video on Miebo for sure!

My doctor here in Mexico recommended AquaDran Gel after cataract surgery. I've had dry eyes for years but it was really severe after the surgery. I use the AquaDran at nighttime and find I need to use eye drops a lot less during the day, it has really made a difference.

The iVIZIA lubricant eye GEL for severe/night dry eyes work very well for me. I do not close my eyes all the way at night so I use a weighted satin mask I purchased on Amazon that helps keep my eyes closed. The gel comes in preservative free single use vials. I also use the gel drops in the evening after a day of computer use and that can help too. I do not find this gel gummy etc. just blurred vision for about 5 minutes. Remember everyone’s experience can be different. I really appreciate your videos Dr. Allen!

I developed dry eye a few years ago and have experienced some relief using a small amount of olive oil at night. It is mildly irritating, but that does encourage tear production. I am prone to sinus infections and wonder if dry eye syndrome may be a problem w/ the microbiome in the eye. The only thing that cures my sinus problems for about a year is inhaling a small amount of kimchi liquid a few times a day for about two weeks.

I was experiencing a lot of blurry vision and discomfort for around two months. I went to the doctor and recommended the Refresh Omega 3, Systane (complete) and a gel (think Systane). I bought all three. Both these two eye drops would make me feel discomfort in the eyes. Would help for a few minutes with my blurry vison. The gel was totally awful. I would feel a little pressure and even dryness during blinking. I bought Ivizia eye drops in Walmart for around $10.00. It is very good. But would work better in the beginning. One thing that I noticed of this one is that I do not feel discomfort. Ivizia helped with blurry vision but then not that much. I stopped using eye drops altogether. My blurry vision has improved. But I still often have red eyes. I noticed that hard water was affecting my vision as well. . I cleaned my faucet that was partially clogged. Just leave the faucet for two hours submerged in vinegar. There are plenty of videos on youtube on how to clean them. Now that my vision is practically back to normal I will try Ivizia again. I feel that might still be suffering from dry eyes.

I’ve had severe chronic dry eye for about 10 years now, starting when I was around 14/15. Where I’m from, Twin Cities, MN, the winters can get quite dry and exacerbate my symptoms. It is absolutely true that dry eye is very complex and full of numerous different factors. At least for me, discovering TheraTears (primarily the single-use vials) changed my life. I also just recently began using Ivizia which I’ve found compliments TheraTears eye drops very nicely for my eyes. No burning sensations and longer lasting than other eye drops. Using these along with consistent, daily warm eye compresses at night have helped tremendously. 😊

Loved this! My previous optometrist suggested I use drops for dry eyes when I’m using screens a lot but only told me to avoid ‘red eye’ formulas. I bought some drops and experienced irritation and worsening symptoms so I went back to the pharmacy and bought something else that had different ingredients. Lo and behold I just checked the ingredients and I switched from a product containing benzalkonium chloride to a product containing polyethylene glycol and sodium hyaluronate. I knew I had an improvement and now I know why.

great video Dr. Allen!! I had cataract surgery a year ago and have suffered with dry eye ever since. Miserable!! I ordered Systane Hydration PF which has the active ingredient Polyethylene Glycol and it has changed my life!!!! No other eye drop has helped my condition. For some reason, this one is my Cinderella's slipper. My comfort level is dramatically better!! No more mucus strings and irritation. I thought all OTC eye drops were going to give basically the same outcome. Lesson learned. It is trial and error. Thanks to you, I tried a new one. Changed my life!!! Thank you Dr. Allen 🥰

Thank you for your informative post. You asked what eye drops were a game changer - for me, it was Similisan Dry Eye Relief, a homeopathic product. When I was first diagnosed with an epithelial corneal dystrophy about 15 years ago, I was given 1-2 sample-sized bottles of pretty much all the products that were available at that time. EVERY ONE of them presented some type of problem for me, but when I searched for alternative and found Similisan, it was literally a game changer, and I've been using it all this time. Unfortunately, while it was not one of the brands that was recalled, apparently the FDA pulled it along with the conventional eye drops, and as far as I know there are no plans to reinstate it at this time.

Super helpful and detailed video, thank you. I have tried some products listed and will try new ones as well. Good to know I probably should go back to the ointment now using a CPAP regularly. Word of caution about that blink drops with PEG: PEG, being almost ubiquitous in many health, household and medical medical products, but people can be sensitive to that product even allergic. In addition, anyone having little crystals causing irritation or itchiness around the eyes may get aggravated with that product. It is related to Crystal oxalates.

I recently had cataract surgery and opted for light adjustable lens, which require several follow-up visits. Turns out I have MGD and had a difficult time getting accurate readings on my vision. The Retaine nighttime ointment is great at bedtime, with the added benefit of blurry vision: you can’t use your technology. Like the doctor, Systane Hydration formula is my favorite for normal use. I will also be trying out Blink soon to see how it works for my MGD. Tip for users new to eyedrops: if you want preservative free (PF), the single dose is easy to use since the little PF bottles are next to impossible to squeeze. How I used the entire bottle required pre-op without stabbing my eyes….. Thanks for the info about ingredients. I never could find a chart somewhere that compared ingredients with uses, across brands. Just trying to differentiate Systane formulations was impossible.

After a month of using castor oil on my eyelids I have noticed the following: improvement in my dry eye, less puffiness above my eyes in the above lid area, faster growth of eyebrows, and increase in brow/hair growth where applied, and a huge improvement in in discoloration/age spots on the lid as well as on my cheeks. It seems my crow’s feet are also somewhat improved. I was trying to improve a huge patch of floaters that developed and did not resolve after cataract surgery and one round of laser treatment to break up the patch.Unfortunately, it did not go away, HOWEVER, the darkness of some floaters in the patch completely lessened and overall, my eyesight seems improved, and my dry eye is much improved. The patch of floaters is less bothersome, although I do plan on visiting a retina specialist to have them removed (simple procedure, in-office). I never put the oil directly in my eye, only above and below the eye. This Dr. is great, he tells truths, puts terms and ideas in context and doesn’t talk down to us - I will try the eye drops with castor oil going forward. But, I do plan on continuing 100% castor oil to reduce signs of aging on the skin. It truly is miraculous stuff. I used the European analogue (Evotears), but it does not matter, since the active substance is the same - perfluorooctane, firstly, due to the low adhesion to the surface of the cornea, it is impossible to understand whether you have dropped or not, for the same reason, a drop can ricochet off the surface of the eye somewhere sideways along the cheek, it feels like diluted castor oil that irritates the conjunctiva, are our eyes really that different!? I don't understand, but even on the forum people wrote that perfluorooctane is a useless substance, a waste of money, besides Hylo stopped respecting the buyer so much that they released a 3 ml bottle, that's 280 drops, it's barely enough for a week if used sparingly My opinion 2/10 for this product

So far, the Optase Advanced is working pretty well. The eye drops my eye doctor prescribed , however, had a crystalline contamination or precipitation ... I assume that one of the dissolved chemicals fell out of solution. Shaking the bottle did not seem to help. (That product was made in France, as I recall, and they did have a recall on some of their products for that exact issue). I am still shopping for the ideal solution for me ... I am probably not dosing often enough. I will try some of the products you have mentioned in your video and will dose 1 to 2 times more per day to see if that helps.

I purchased the iVizia eye drops last week. They had a $3 off coupon on their website. I apparently keep scratching my cornea in my left eye because my eyelid does not close all the way at night when sleeping. So I put a drop or two into that eye at night before bed. I use to use the Blink Gel Tears but they were messy and blurred my vision in that eye. I have never seen the Optase in my area. I will see how the iVizia drops work so far so good but it has only been a few days. I think they are on the pricey side but post Covid they all are expensive. Some of these eye products are $20-$40 at the drug store.

The eyedrop Miebo by Bausch and Lomb is excellent! It helps to increase evaporation of the aqueous portion of the tears; however, unless you have good insurance coverage, it is prohibitively expensive; for example, with my insurance plan, the cost for a 30 day supply is over $300! It is available from European countries as OTC, and believe it or not costs only $15-20 there! Unfortunately, I have tried to order from a few countries, including UK and Germany and they will not ship to the US😢; my advice is that if you are planning to visit any European country is to buy some there: it is sold under several OTC names like Evo Tears and Hycosan Shield for less than $20

For people with MGD, anything that contains oil is the way to go. Cationorm, systaine complete, novatears (pure oil and needs to be mixed with another drop), Manuka honey drops (stings like hell and doesn't do any lubricating itself, but it makes your eyes make tears like crazy. It's kind of satisfying because you are lubricating your eyes with your own tears)

I've been using lubricating eye drops for over a year now. I've changed brands multiple times and am currently using one of the Systane products. My complaints so far is that the drops usually make things worse when I use them. I do the moist warm eye compresses. That does help a lot. That with the eye lid hygiene, I sometimes do not need my drops in the morning as they tear up pretty well now and I don't have the redness and the infections anymore.

I've been using Miebo for two months, per your video on this product. It's fantastic! I have dry eye syndrome as sequale to Crohn's disease and OTC drops evaporate too quickly. The two most "popular" Rx drugs were expensive and did not improve my MGD/DES. Since Miebo is q.i.d dosing, I use OTC drops in-between. My preferences are: Refresh Optive Mega-3 (pf) and Retaine MGD. For the first time in 30 years I finally have control over my symptoms. I also use TearRestore heat compresses and TearRestore Neutralizes daily. This whole regimen was developed from watching your videos and the research that you provided on a miriad of products. My last visit to my ophthalmologist yielded a tear film that last 11 minutes vs. 3 minutes before starting a treatment regimen. Keep up the good work!

Back in the early 2000s, I was using artificial tears, I started because I irritated my eye and thought I had pink eye. I went to the pharmacist at the grocery store and he said it was just irritated, suggested artificial tears. I forgot when I stopped using them, as my eyes didn't get as dry as they have been around age 40. I looked for artificial tears but had the hardest time finding it since it seemed to disappear. I have tried a few different ones in more recent years and honestly, the Blink long lasting relief are the best. Second to Similasan allergy eye drops, which I buy only when my allergies are annoying me enough to need. I keep a bottle of eye drops in my purse and one on my desk at home. 😂 Some days my eyes are dryer than others.
