Dr: This is your most useful video for me! I am taking Ciprofloxacin eye drops and my first attempt was a miss exactly like your video. Some of the drops even fell on my skpe! The drop hit my skpe and open up the fluid in it. Those eyes were strong as hell! Thanks for this video. Now I know how to put Eye drops in. I have naturally long eye lashes & they stop the drop from coming into my eyes. But when I used the technique of lying on my bed then the eye drops went into my eyes. Thanks Dr A!

I found an easy way to put in eye drops is to pull the bottom of the eye down as you suggested, but put the drop in while looking in a mirror. This works great when someone can’t stand to see the dropper coming and flinches, giving the dropper a whole different perspective. We shared this with our patients and they loved it!

How often can we apply eye lubricant? After my cataract surgery my eye is so dry and my opthalmologist suggest me to apply whenever I feel uncomfortable, but the relief won't last long. If I apply immediately whenever I feel uncomfortable, I will end up applying so many times a day. Is it ok?

So thankful I came across this video. I was prescribed eye drops and after the first time use I experienced the unfortunate sensation of having it go down the back of my throat, very unpleasant. I am guilty of blinking a lot just after applying the drop so that didn’t help lol. Will definitely try this method of blocking the corner of the eye and keeping my eye closed for 30 seconds 😅

Excellent! The only thing I would add would be to point out that those using eyedrops on a continual basis should select preservative free style eyedrops as the preservatives used in eyedrops can themselves cause damage to the eye if used frequently. Almost all eyedrops that comes in bottles use preservatives so select the preservative free style that come in individual ampules.

The way I use eye drops is by standing in front of a mirror, tilting my head and moving my eyeballs to one side and then pointing the dropper above the white part of my eye and then squeezing the bottle and closing my eyes for a few seconds for it to cover the entire eyeball. Maybe that's not the correct way but it prevents the blinking part of putting something in your eye

Dear Dr Allen, Thank you so much for sharing this information about the administration of the drops, nobody, no doctor, no pharmacist ever told me how to administer drops properly, no wonder each time I put drops, they resurface back out and keep overflowing my eyes, they then seem to make my eyes sticky. My mother had Glaucoma - nobody demonstrated the right application, my daughter has suffered with dry eye since she was 8 years old - she has been under a hospital care for the last 8 years, never ever the ophthalmologist told me the right way of administering those drops. No wonder, I do not see any improvement. May I ask if you have any video about that little growth around the iris - I was told it is due to the UV lights, age and dryness of my eyes, but I notice that I have now another two growing in my other eye. Thank you for being so caring and happy to teach and share with us, people who suffer with their eyes.

I wanted to get a nano dropper but was concerned about my grip strength/pinching strength and the dropper being harder to squeeze out the nano drop. I think it would work fine for very watery eye drops. I got a Systane gel formula in a squeeze bottle and it is much harder to get those drops squeezed out. Love your channel. Just binged several eye drop technique videos and this was the most helpful on walking you through the steps concisely and giving some good alternatives from the traditional. In particular the method with applying while the eyes are actually closed was a life saver I did not see in any other video. A combo of never having used eye drops, having a weird anxiety issue of having liquid hit my face(even water in the shower) and somehow being completely skeeved out when I finally felt a drop hit my eye, all just really made the whole thing a nightmare. My increasing flinching and anxiety issue kept making the whole experience worse. I can atleast do this one method. Hopefully it will stop feeling so weird soon and I will get use to it though. On a related note, I understand everyone is different, but it seems so odd to me that people might have trouble telling they got any in their eye, the feeling stands out so much to me already.

Some people get super sensitive about their eyes. Men usually are more protective than women it seems. I know some people maybe experienced eye pain or injury when they are young and perhaps that causes an aversion…or maybe some people are more reliant on their vision as a primary sense…and therefore more protective of their vision?? There are different theories.

Very good question! Glaucoma is possible for anyone (there are many types of glaucoma) even with no family history. But having an immediate family member does increase the risk of getting glaucoma. I hope your dad ends up being OK and I think it is just a good idea to keep seeing your local eye care professional on a routine basis so they can determine if you have risk of glaucoma or not throughout your lifetime.

@@dakshgupta2806 Hey, unfortunately one can have glaucoma with no family history. I have it and drs were suspicious of whether I have glaucoma or not cause of my young age and no family history, eventually I ended up losing some eye sight so please just get checked once in a while and pay attention to your vision, it’s Imp to treat this early. Hope you don’t get it though.

Hello! Thanks for the video. I wish I knew this sooner.(it's a shame nobody from the clinic told me how to use drops in the right way). Well, if it's okay to ask questions here - I'm almost a month after Smile correction. My vision is close to 20\20 and I'm happy with it except for the fact that my eyes become blurry when working at PC. It usually happens after 10-20 minutes after I start work and it sometimes it goes away after I apply wet eye drops and sometimes it doesn't(I don't know why). I use the rule 20\20\20 and I make additional breaks during my work day and sometimes after I went on a break(40 minutes) I come back and this issue worsens.(for instance it was fine before the break and after the break the image is blurry again). The doctors say that it's a normal process but I'll be glad to hear your opinion on why this happens so randomly and what should I do to increase the process(if I could at all). Or maybe the result is not consistent because I applied wet eye drops in the wrong way.

Hey Thank you so much for asking! I would love to know more about your experience with the SMILE correction, such as why SMILE vs LASIK or PRK (seriously just curious - I hope to have a video on SMILE this next year). To answer your question, usually vision can blur intermittently due to dryness of the eyes surface- this is common after any refractive surgery because of corneal nerve changes and or tear film chemistry changes due to the prescription eye drops, typically using a computer worsens the symptoms because we often don't blink as much on the computer. Using artificial tear drops frequently are recommended and best to use preservative free drops. How far out are you in recovery?

@@DoctorEyeHealth Hey thanks for responding! I guess I'm fine except for that issue and halos around light sources. First 2 weeks were worrying because my vision wasn't good and I had some light sensitivity, then it passed.(I've read so many stories that people get perfect vision on the second day so I started thinking I was undercorrected). I was -4.25 on my right eye with very slight astigmatism and -4.75 on my left eye(devices always showed that). But in the clinic after testing they said that I had less myopia.(Around -3.25). I could see very good after around 3 weeks. Around that time I started eating Omega-3 supplements but I doubt these vitamins gave me the instant improvement. What curious about my blurry eyes issue - bluriness happens right after I blink, then after 3-4 seconds vision becomes better. So to see clearly I need to blink less in front of PC(which I think is wrong so I don't do that). Partially I solved problem by making breaks and using Black\White filter for my screen(slightly better) and decreasing the brightness. If you're making a video about eye correction - one would be interested in what to do after the correction - whether you should wear sunglasses or not, be inside or outside, what to eat or what not to eat and so on. I would also recommend anyone doing eye correction to take a vacation after you do eye correction especially if you'are an office worker. My doctor said that "people after correction can work at PC on the third day" which is clearly not my case. I've taken a week off and it wasn't enough. If you have any specific questions - feel free to ask me! Thanks for the work you do.

Hi Doc! Thanks for your great channel and providing us with professional advice and helpful guidance for eye care. 👍 I've got a little concern here though. You see I'm always bothered by the awful "bitterness" at the throat, usually within 10 -20 mins after applying the eye drop, especially eye ointment, which means the eye care application has travelled to the throat 😯...even more quickly when lying down. Then I would quickly gargle my mouth with water, trying to clean out the medicine from my throat...fearing I might swallow any harmful chemicals from the medication...just in case 😲 So what do you think about this Doc? Please advise...thank you and have a BLESSED nice day folks! 😇

Hi Doc, just found your channel and subbed, great channel !....A question, and probably one that you haven't heard: I wear Acuvue 2 contact lenses and take them out before going to sleep. In the last few months, I started developing red bumps around my eye (especially left eye) and on my eyelid. I went to a dermatologist and an opthamologist and they had different opinions on what the bumps were (stye, possible shingles, dermatitis) but those, so far, were all ruled out and/or the Rx's went nowhere. Then I realized my recent night and morning routine (last few months) might have been the problem. In those last few months, I was flushing my eyes out (when the contact lenses were out) with what I thought was mostly saline solution, but it's actually my Care 1 Multi-Purpose solution. I thought that would be benign, but now from what I'm reading, that was not such a good idea. So I just stopped doing that this week, for obvious reasons. So, the question is, do you think that could have been the culprit of my recent problem, and/or maybe you could let me know your thoughts on that mistake I made (using Multi-Purpose as a flush). And also, I like the idea of flushing my eyes out to clean them, can I buy regular contact lens saline and do that, is that a good idea or do you have a better idea? I hope to hear from you, I would be so appreciative if I heard back from you....thanks !

monocular diplopia which resolves with pinhole dry eye or cataracts? i'm poor but not stupid, plan to see the doctor in mid jan but am concerned.
@DoctorEyeHealth
@DoctorEyeHealth 4 жыл бұрын
True Monocular diplopia is often caused by something wrong with the visual axis - such as macular pucker, cataracts or a corneal scar/defect. But many people often confuse true diplopia and blur/ ghosting of images caused by defocus caused by -cataracts, astigmatism, dry eye etc.

@@sauravallen 1 year or so. Double images. Both are in focus, one brighter than the other. Not blurred. A few years ago my mom died I drank a lot for one year. Used to be a soldier so outdoor living and rough fighting. The soldier part was years ago, so was the not even 5 cigarettes a day for a few years. I don't Think it's the result of any of that. It's been like this for about a year. I just figure its age. Or am I wrong? If I look down rather than up and from the inner corner of my eye it's less bad so I guess that means its the cornea? I.e. it is worse in different viewing angles (up and out) than from others (down and in).

I wash my hands first and wash face and eye lid area in tea tree oil soap. Then dry face and use drops. Feels great. Try it and see. I also sometimes use a sterile gauze and put a lot of witch hazel on it and wipe eyes and lids well..may sting a min but it helps a lot. Always use clean hands with eye care.
