Great tutorial Dylan! This is probably the best eye zoom tutorial I've seen. Those extra little tips really sell the effect. Great job 😄👏🏼

You might be using the 360° Gaussian blur! Make sure you’re using just the regular Gaussian blur

Great tutorial. What just personally often bugs me is that Gaussian blur is used as a substitute for lens blur. They are not the same and blur very differently. Gaussian blur just uniformly blurs everything and it’s just mush while with real physical lens blur the structure is different and you still have Definition and sharp edges around blurred highlights. That’s why I still use After Effects for fake lens blur in post production. It just looks so much better. But I get that this wasn’t the point of the video. Also some motion mightmake the transition even smoother! But amazing video and your work is always much appreciated. Thanks for the inspiration!

1000% agree with you! Appreciate you taking the time to share this. I didn't want to take the time to explain all of that in the video (just trying to be as concise as possible.) The reason I specifically chose gaussian blur for this, is because Apple in all of their infinite wisdom decided to not include a stock lens blur effect in FCP. The only way to get one is to purchase a plugin, or port it over from Apple Motion. I wanted this tutorial as accessible as possible, without pushing people to go out and get another plugin. That said, you will notice the lens blur at 4:26 because you're 100% right, a lens blur is the way to go!
